Major Flaws at UC

The sad thing is, Mick probably think UC is up there with those teams. One of the biggest problems with Mick is how delusional he is. He ALWAYS thinks people are screwing him over. Remember when he thought the Big East was out to get him because UC wasn't in a Big East tournament commercial? He was serious.

Just a few weeks ago he was upset at his ranking, yet after the loss to Presbyterian he claims he "saw it coming." He never takes blame for a loss, and always takes credit for a win.

Mick Cronin is by far one of the biggest whiners in college basketball. That has to put him on the bad side of a lot of fans.

If you watch the presybeterian press conference he actually takes full blame for the loss so i don't know where your coming from on that one.
And all coaches do that whiny act its called a motivational tactic used to get the players feeling like they are an underdog.

Cronin does come into play with regards to the lack of attendance, but I think the effect is minimal these days. The biggest culprit is the poor OOC. Answer me this because I have no idea on the answer. Who is responsible for the scheduling of teams? Does the coach have any input in those decisions?

I think Mick has a pretty sizable input. Yes he calls espn every week or whatever but I think he is going for the big game too much instead of a simple one like a virginia or mid level acc or sec team. He shouldn't have the attitude of Duke or bust.

Disagree. He went for Kentucky and got Georgia. If he tries for Georgia, does he get it? Where is the draw for that game. I think ESPN gave Mick Georgia as a consolation prize because he asked for Kentucky. I want Mick to keep trying for the Dukes, Kentuckys, OSUs, and Indianas. I don't want to settle for playing some lower tier SEC or ACC school. You keep winning and you will get those games.

You have a very biased few on Mick Cronin. UC fans do not feel near the distain that you describe. I love listening to Mick because he doesn't hold back.

It amazes me how much Xavier fans react to Cronin. I know you're a Xavier fan but they remember everything. I do not remember Mick getting upset by a Big East commercial... I am sure it happened but I never thought twice about it. You bring that up?

I have had a couple of X fans come up to me and say "Can you believe what Mick said about....." rarely do I ever blink an eye about the comment.

Mick has his faults though without a doubt.

I agree completely, but it seems like our fans have decided that Mick can't do the same things that others do.

I did not watch that press conference, so maybe he did change his ways. I'm not the only person who think Mick constantly blames players after losses and takes credit himself after wins.

I would bet a lot of UC fans think Mick is a whiner. I'll say it again, I really believe he thinks people are out there to screw him over. He likes to blame other people all the time. Or, at least he did, I didn't watch the press conference.

I brought it up as an example of he is delusional about everyone is out to screw him and the bearcats.

That's absolutely true. Many Xavier fans and Huggins fans think this of Mick. Not exactly an unbiased opinion though, is it? If I told you what I thought of Chris Mack, would you consider my opinion to be truth?

And, not to say you are one (I imagine you probably aren't), but to all the Huggins fans: If you want to see a coach throw their players under the bus, watch any Huggins post-game presser ever.

I know I'm biased, but it still amazes me to hear some of the things that come out of his mouth. I could be wrong, but I thought a lot of people thought Mick Cronin had said some incredibly stupid stuff. I can remember people on this board being upset at things he was saying after losses. I remember a blog post by Mo Egger that a ton of people thought was fantastic that talked about this exact stuff.

Again, I can understand why people would think I'm biased, and I am. I can remember a few short years ago when my opinion was not considered biased though.

Then again, you could make the argument that Cronin lovers are just as biased.

I have never had an issue with coaches calling out players if they deserved to be called out. The majority of the "kids" are 20-23. Most 22 year olds are graduated and starting their career.

These "kids" get 80,000 dollars of educational dollars to play basketball. They can take a little criticism.

The majority of these "kids" are my age. Many of them have children.

Yes, but at some point the Coach has to take responsibility. He IS the one that is supposed to be teaching them, right? If the players aren't listening to him, that's a problem. Wouldn't you agree? He seems to say that they aren't listening to him a lot in post game press conferences.

It is baised but I think there are people who agree with you. Mick definitely rubs people the wrong way.

Here at BCT we generally have a small amount of traffic of loyal basketball fans. We are not the average fans. In fact we are the die hards who support the program under any circumstances and share a UC bball bias.

I think your comments are valid.

Mo Egger plays a role. He has dropped the ball on too many things related to UC for me to take him seriously as a representative of the UC fanbase.

I do not think Mick is the best coach in America but I like him.

Agree 100 %. I guess I feel he does take blame but maybe he doesn't. He has done a poor job motivating the team this season.

I think this is a Huggins trait too. I can still here Huggins say "Look Chuck, all I can do is draw up the play. If they can't do it I am not sure what I can do."

BTW, I am by no means a guy who will not bash a UC coach. Ask people what I think of Butch. I am starting to loosen my stance on that but I hate to listen to him.

Apparently he has taken some blame, but at the same time he can't keep saying the team isn't listening to him. He is the Head Coach, at some point he has to make the team listen to him.

I understand the Huggins comparison. What I'm about to say may make people mad, and I could be wrong on this, but I think there is one huge difference in Huggins and Cronin. Sure, Huggins criticized his players, but you also saw how much he cared for, and loved his players. I'm not sure you get that out of Cronin. Again, I could be wrong, but I just don't see the same passion for each player that Huggins showed. That is why it is different when Huggins criticized his players, because the players and the fans knew how much he truly cared for them.

Again, it's just a theory I just came up with a few seconds ago, so I could be off base on that.

difference between Mick and Bob.... yancy wouldnt be playing right now and if he was hed be a lottery pick. Bob motivated trhough fear

He would not be a lottery pick. Robert Whaley was a big time recruit. He did nothing here.

Huggins would have got into yancy's face more without a doubt.

I think that is a very accurate statement
