Mick a Candidate for UNLV?

I understand both sides of the argument but unless I haven't read every post thoroughly enough I still haven't seen where anyone has come up with better candidates for this program. If you say Larry Davis you should be banned from talking basketball. This is not a top destination for coaches nor is it a place for up and comers to make themselves a brighter star (which isn't what I would want anyway). So with that being said if Mick were to be fired or leave the program who are we replacing him with?

I don't know, but I know this... If Mick chooses to go to unlv or anywhere we will have a coach next season.

Kevin Keatts. He would be a home run hire.

27 wins to 23 wins to 22 wins. 16 conference wins to 13 wins to 12 wins. Things sure are getting better. LMAO

oh give me a break thats how college basketball works if u judge strictly off wins every coach in the country would get fired u have to look at so much more then that. i would hope u would realize moving to the aac and having the tulanes of the world coming instead of georgetown would affect attendance. u say we are all about the party lines but it seems to me u guys are so anti cronin and have always been that u cant see past the bs. i mean give me a break seriously. u guys are so emotionally anti cronin that u cant even see that this year was just one those years where everything that could go wrong did. if you cant watch a basketball game smu for example and see that cronin is a great coach then im not sure what ur looking at.

u would rather have him then cronin? i dont get that at all hes a good coach they had a good year but he is not better for uc then cronin. plus if he came here and had success hed be on the first train to a bigger program which is what people forget about cronin. uc basketball would be just as much a stepping stone as uc football its just we got a loyal coach. plus people forget if we lost cronin more then likely we losing evans cumberland clark etc etc and we will be starting from scratch again. No thanks.

that seems typical tho everyone wants the coach from the small school who has had a bit of success even if its just a year or 2. it was ohios coach a few years ago

Can you please read the thread? You aren't arguing against anyone you're responding too. The UNCW guy is IF Cronin left. NTS has said he wants Cronin to stay specifically bc of guys like Evans and Cumberland. C'mon man.

It's comical how many of you have such a low opinion of our program. Zero expectations, zero belief that we can and should compete for anything and thousands of excuses to back up your reasons why we can't do things.

Yet my fan-hood is put into question by many of you because I don't support our coach? What exactly is it so many of you are worried about happening if Mick left?? It's not like some of you guys have expectations anyways.

Yeah. The biggest positive in keeping Mick is he has a pretty good top 3 + Cumberland.

Coaches shouldn't get fired because the fan base thinks they know best. A coach who is having success shouldn't be fired because the fan base doesn't dem this successful.

There are like 2 people talking about FIRING Cronin. 99% of us are talking about him leaving on his own. Smh.

But if the coach isn't successful enough to win the fan base over they should be. Fans are who support the program. Esp when the coach gets 2.2 mill a year.

Exactly, and when the money I spend on my season tickets goes directly to support the coaches salary then I have every right to voice my opinion.

Seriously, dam. People need better reading comprehension. I was called as a Mick homer yesterday and I don't think, before that, I had said one way or the other. My feeling is, I want him back for next year. Jacob, you have mentioned that with Troy, Clark and Evans next year's squad has a strong nucleus. Couldn't agree more and I am excited for those three next season. Cumberland and Washington are/ were big recruits but haven't been tested with big minutes in the college game. We know what we will get from KJ on defense and with more time working on his shot, he could be a 35% shooter off the bench. And so on and so forth with Scott, Brooks, Quad, Jenifer and anyone else who we bring in this summer.

Why risk all of that by FIRING Cronin. Makes no sense.

Now, if Cronin wants to starts over at UNLV and is done with UC, then that's a different matter. Until that happens, it's all speculation and this thread can remain " Cronin a CANDIDATE for UNLV."

When your paying the 22nd highest salary in the land, it's really not a stepping stone job. Huggs had the chance to bolt to his alma mater and turned them down. The #10 highest paid coach is still below $3 Million dollars, so our $2.2 Million isn't far below the top 10. Those highest 21 jobs don't open up very often. There will always be someone moving on from time to time, but our program doesn't really have much of a history of coaches leaving on their own. We've helped some out the door, which we're probably doing here. You can't pay $2.2 Million to a guy who only attracts 9000 people to games.

Plus, everyone is completely crazy when they talk about our facilities. Outside of a 27 year old arena (which still looks very nice to the eyes), our varsity village and Lindner Center complex, weight room, training and rehab facilities are state of the art and top shelf. I'm tired of the flat out lies continually thrown out about our facilities. Bottom line, we have an arena that will not attract fans when the coach isn't very good. When the coach is very good, we can sell the place out.

I'm not arguing we are doomed if he leaves but let's not pretend it's going to be easy to get a good coach and recruiter in here. Be careful what you wish for because things could be alot worse than they are. Of course we would love for this to be a better program than it currently is however what's to say the next coach isn't much worse.

I support our players, program, and our coach (whoever that may be). I think Cronin has done an admirable job in many many ways! If we part ways it may or may not be the best thing we can do...what do I know. We have become stagnant and have not reached the heights we have in the past. About 40% of me wants to give Cronin the benefit of the doubt that he can accomplish more soon but 60% of me thinks I would be okay seeing if a new face could do the same. This was my year I was hoping to see "new heights" but it didn't happen and I am pretty sure it could have with the current group of players.

I don't think it is okay to insult or humiliate the guy for giving his heart and soul to our program and the players. In fact I don't think he deserves that even one bit. Not performing up to someone elses standards is no reason to humiliate a coach or player. This includes guys like Moore....they just don't deserve it.

If he (Cronin) left I would be the first in line to shake his hand and say thank you for giving it your all...sorry things didn't work out.
