Mick a Candidate for UNLV?

Listen man, I'm not going to debate the merits of my expectations, I've done it wayyyy to many times on this board. Everyone has different expectations and that's fine.

I'm 33 years old, I grew up a die hard UC fan. I grew up around a lot of XU fans and loved the rivalry and the fact that they were always little brother. I loved Bob Huggins, but I'm not some grizzled old man who never gave Mick a chance. When we hired Mick I was 100% on board. After year 4 I started to change my opinion. I'm a season ticket holder and I go to every game and I grew tired of Mick's brand of basketball. I felt then that Mick's ceiling was never going to get us back to the program I few up with. Mick has done nothing to prove me wrong since then.

I'm not hung up on Huggins and I don't have a personal vendetta against Mick because of the way Huggins left. I just want our program back to where it was when I was growing up and I don't care who gets us there. I have zero belief in Mick's ability to do that. I certainly don't love the fact that we've taken a backseat to XU under Mick's watch and I don't see him changing that either.

Hopefully that gives you some insight into my thought process, agree or disagree I don't really care.

I understand where you are. I'm 32 and grew up during the same era. I'd give you my opinion but I'm done arguing. We both agree on some things and vastly differ on others. That's that.

Get over yourself dude. This program will be fine with or without Mick.

And if it isn't fine when Cronin leaves...what does that say about what he left the new coach to work with? On one hand he's a miracle worker, on the other hand we'll have to use football players in year 1 of his departure? Doesn't add up.

Amen, the only reason I come on this board in the first place is because I love talking UC Hoops. Since I'm not happy with the current direction of our program my comments typically reflect that. I assure you I don't take it too seriously though, I just appreciate the back and forth and the hoops talk.

Other coaches are doing more with less every year. It's on Mick to raise the bar and he's not doing it.

Lol, ok. Examples, please!

Also do you know how pathetic it makes you sound when you want mick gone so bad but act offended that he's considering leaving? I can't understand hat mindset..."i don't want you but how dare you think of leaving unless i tell you to."

When did I say was satisfied with this season bud? But it did not warrant for this much bashing and a fire Mick. I'm done talking about it because I truly think he will stay but I'm telling you from now if he's gone just get ready to forget about basketball for a few years.

Your last 10 words are my fear.

Not worried about the last ten words then saying grown men are saying what ever to Sammy. I do not believe there is one person on this site that would stand for that. Period!

I don't think he's coming.

If he was, we'd have a plane out there for him today and we don't. It's possible tomorrow will be the day, but if we get past 5:00 tomorrow with no announcement I think our program considers we've been played and moves on.

Wow, a post I actually respect from yo. J/k, I see where you're coming from

Sean Miller squashed rumors of his involvement with Pitt in about 15 minutes earlier today. Mick could have done the same and didn't, that's on him.

Personally I'd love to see him leave but my personal outlook has ZERO impact on his decision. Get a grip people.

I'm on this wagon right here.

I'm not acting offended, I want him gone. I'm suggesting that you should be offended.

As for a list it's been posted many times......i'm sure you can browse back through the posting and find it. I'll drop a few for you though just to get you started.

If I were the AD, which is a job I assure you I'm not qualified for, I would have fired Mick 2 years ago and replaced him with Bruce Pearl. Not because I hate Mick but because I've lost belief in his abilities to make UC basketball great again(I might have that hat made for next season's games).

Trust me, if Mick ever gets us back to where I want us to be I'll be just as excited as everyone else and I'll have a lot of crow to eat. I'm very worried Mick won't get us back there, I'm not that worried about the crow.

Dayton is hardly doing "more". 1 nice run after years and years of not even making the tournament? But whatever. I don't feel offended at all. If the negativity towards him is anywhere near as reported, then he'd be stupid to not consider something. believe me I don't think mick is the only coach who can do this job, I just refuse to gamble on taking steps backwards

Mick has done a good job. Whoever follows him will be grateful for what Mick has rebuilt. All Mick wants is the administration to help him elevate our program. He would never consider leaving unless he thought they were impeding his path to that end. This administration is not unhappy with Mick's performance. He is unhappy with theirs. If memory serves me many on here were just as unhappy when we dumped all the dollars on a football program instead of the basketball program. It doesn't take a mental giant to look at the different bearcat sites and see that the overwhelming interest in bearcat athletics is basketball. By a wide margin. Heck we have more basketball comments during football season then the football team gets. Now he is being asked to wait and he is the one who catches all the heck from the public. He is the one who is under the gun.

When Louisvile and others were jumping to better leagues with more revenue was that his fault. Where was our administration. When they were dragging the program through the legal dirt while trying to discharge Huggins who was left to clean up the mess and be the point man for all the angry fans. When Huggins was driving around town like Otis of Mayberry who came in and tried to maintain some type of respectability. Who repaired the graduation rate left over. He is now asking for their help. Apparently they are not listening.

Look if you don't like his method of coaching I'm fine with that. But the BOT should be held accountable as well. They all moved on. Mick is still here. Please don't give me the he gets piaid line. He could still get paid at another university. Which for the first time in all this mess he apparently may be considering. I can not blame him.

I'm with you

Another point to think about.

Isn't this the same administration that renewed Mick at 2.2 mil for 7 years. Some on here would have to question that logic.

Didn't they hire Tubervile? How's that working?

Supposedly they are working to get us a p-5 invite how's that going?

They Invested a boatload of money in nippert with the idea it would get us a invite to a P-5. How's that going?

Didn't it take them 2 years to discharge Huggins. Does anybody really believe the BOT wasn't aware that Bob had issues before he got finally was arrested.

Mick is far from what is dragging this program down.

1) Mick is going no where imo

2) cinci is a very good job, don't get what you guys are saying about facilities. We have top notch facilities, Yes an older areana, but once it's renovated we will have everything a coach could imagine. (Besides a power conference, but come on the AAC has some big programs in memphis UConn temple, and now smu. We got a very nice deal with espn where we play nationally televised games all the time. We get a CBS game every year to. Now it's no acc but you can be successful in this conference). The plane thing is the only thing i can see having a problem with

3) mick will not be fired anytime soon. Bohn has shown he likes consistency and mick has been to 6 straight with good returning guys, and has had little off court problems with players. If tuberville is still here mick will have to do way worse than what he's done. So like him or not he's staying

4) if mick is using this as leverage then that is very annoying considering he is the 22nd highest paid coach in the nation. For comparison he makes more than head coaches at Oregon, Virginia, notre dame, nc state, and North Carolina. And he's getting a state of the art areana being built after next season. Mick needs to stop complaining and get things done these next two years because everything is in place. Compare his tourney results to some of these schools mick makes more than. One sweet 16 in six years (I'll give the first three or four years do to the circumstances) is not good enough for a lot of fans. Micks done very well it's just that fans want more and expect more at uc

5) Im still good with mick he's done a good job here (rebuilt it from bottom up) but has leveled off since the sweet 16 team, these next two years he better get things done with some great seasons. 6 straight ncaa should be a huge point when recruiting, that number will continue to rise imo which is impressive no doubt that's a good accomplishment. I'm just ready to take that next step, I'm on board with mick cuz looking at this returning roster HE built I get excited but I fully expect to win the conference and be in the sweet 16 next year, it's time to make it happen
