Mick a Candidate for UNLV?

Assuming Cronin leaves I do believe there are a lot of coaches that absolutely will lineup to take this job (or at least would like to). But we won't even consider most of them and a few of them we will reach out to. Then we will select the best candidate after a vigorous search and interview process. That candidate should be a fine candidate in the end.

I think it would be foolish to think we will see a good candidate coming from a lateral move and I'm not sure I would want one if they didn't have awesome results to bring to the table. So that doesn't really make sense.

I want an up and comer with fire in his eyes and knows how to recruit talent and has shown some early success or maybe an assistant that is highly regarded under a top notch coach.
WaterHead my cmment was directed toward the administration. All your going to get is a up and comer. This isn't a blue blood program. Hell lots of fans want a guy gone who has led us to 6 NCAA's in a row gone. Our facilities are outdated and we need a move to a P5. We certainly will not be dropping football. We are rolling the dice if we lose Cronin. It may turn out well or could be a disaster. My point is we have achieved a certain level of success. Finish the job. Improve the facilities and continue toward May when we should know more about conference alignment. We also have a good team in place for next year we are risking. Mick has been here 10 years and done well. What is 2 more years especially with the players he has. Give him what we all know he needs to advance and if it doesn't get the results we want fire him then. Losing him now is not a good decision.

Thank you. Some of these people fancy themselves as the "true" fans, but they obviously don't give a crap about the program as a whole. NTS is 100% correct about our fan base. It's kind of embarrassing what I'm reading today from some "fans".

For many years, anyone anti-cronin has been vilified, personally attacked, called names, told they were horrible fans, scum of the earth, etc. Now the tide has turned and you are seeing the true colors of the so-called "Real" fans of our program....and it's not pretty. The anti-cronin people are taking this all pretty light-heartedly, injecting some humor, etc. We know Cronin isn't leaving. So, we're just having fun with it. The other side is belligerent, ugly, mad, etc. The ugly comments toward the program show their true feelings. I'm not a big Mick fan, but it's not the worst thing in the world if he's back. I'll roll with it. I'll still love the program. I'll probably still complain until he does something significant. But, I'll never wish anything bad, or hope players leave, no matter how much I dislike the head coach.

I'd keep Larry Davis for a year

That would be the absolute worst thing to do. We would go right back to where we started 10 years ago. Mick leaves, you do an exhaustive search for the very best replacement you can get even if that means we lose guys like Clark, Evans, and Cumberland.

$2.2 Million says a lot of good coaches will line up.

Anyone who claims our facilities are outdated, absolutely knows "NOTHING" about our program.

Losing him now may not be our decision to make. In that case you hire the best person you can and hope for the best. There are good coaches out there is all I am saying

It's funny to me that some of us have had the biggest blow out, knockdown, drag out fights in the history of the board...but with adversity looming, look who is standing together...those of us who love the program above all else. We may fundamentally disagree on everything else, but at the end of the day it's very easy to identify the die-hards.

Anyone who claims our facilities are outdated, absolutely knows "NOTHING" about our program.

Anyone who doesnt recognize the difference in our BASKETBALL facilities to that of the blue blood programs knows "NOTHING" about what kind of a disadvantage we are at in recruiting. I would trade Mick Cronin in a heartbeat for a new arena, practice gym, lounge area, and locker rooms. IN A HEARTBEAT. Then I would be 100% confident we could hire a top tier coach.

I'm so sorry. Your opionin is 100% valued and the correct one. Please forgive

I think there are a lot of people that have gone through 2 pretty bad cycles of this program and would rather not go through a 3rd. Personally, I feel like the whole Huggins firing was a complete debacle that could've been avoided with competent leadership. Now, if all I'm hearing is correct, we have a Coach who bleeds red and black that has invested his own money into the program that feels like he's ice skating uphill against another administration that doesn't prioritize basketball.

This speaks to a larger issue. I understood the need to build up football 15 years ago but the University of Cincinnati has been, and always will be, a basketball school in my eyes. And let's be honest, we've allowed our crown jewel to be hijacked by the Nancy Zimphers and Mike Bohns of the world while across town, Xavier's administration doubled down on basketball with facilities and resources and shot right past us. You can say what you want about Mick but any notion that he's even partially to blame for that when he's been fighting tooth and nail to make the program better all around is ludicrous. He shouldn't have to help bankroll a locker room refurbish or beg for charter flights. Every second he's had to do these things is another second away from focusing on recruiting and coaching.

Personally, I'm pretty tired of fickle Cincinnati fans who want to invest pennies and get a windfall in return. I'm not a rich man but I will sure as hell put my money where my mouth is on this.

Good article by Forde. Pretty spot on.

Honestly I've been hard on Mick for awhile. I don't really think he is a coach that will consistently win and achieve more than a 8/9 seed in the NCAA. But as I said before I do wish our admin would remove all excuses, get the arena deal done, get the plane for recruiting, and then hold him accountable and part ways if he fails.

Personally I think this season was a failure. And I don't see it changing with Mick as is. So either get all that stuff and see if he is the guy, or maybe we are better off getting a new guy while working on that other stuff. But something needs to change, we need a step up.

We can offer a coach over 2 million dollars, a new locker room project that is already funded and a new arena that should be ready to go in 2 years. Not to mention a great basketball history and an attendance over 9,000 with regular sellouts for the marquee games. Don't buy the excuse that we can't do better than Mick anymore.

Your a good fan and a good person Doogle.

The sad part is we are all emotionally invested in the School. Certainly some more then others. Was in business long enough to know that when your conducting business emotion is a very dangerous thing.

We have created a pro versus anti Cronin debate which has divided our fan base. Been going on for a while. Probably has clouded a lot of our judgment when it comes to the Program. The truth is we need all of us collectively to help resurrect it. This division has led to some of the issues we are facing today. I'll start by pointing the finger at myself. I am a long time fan. That is because I'm old. My dad used to take me to the games. I may not be monetarily as connected as some but I still try to go to the games. My mind got turned around buy some people who after Mick got hired were absolutely off the reservation. They were personal, mean nasty and cruel. They blamed him for leaving the program to join Louisville and then the ultimate slap in the face was when he was hired to replace Bob who he left to join what they termed as the enemy. I was never a Mick fan, hardly new him but some of the things that were put in print was more then offensive. I think many people feel this way and in lots of cases the actual product takes a back seat. its very hard to judge Mick on his performance because we all have become emotionally invested in our side of the debate. There our times L-T makes very good points but if your a Mick supporter it is never going to resonate with you. I'm sure I'm guilty of this behavior. I'll slant my argument to say what I want it to say. If any of this sound familiar it is what the media does to us daily.

To make a long story short. I want Mick to stay because I think he is a good coach and I would like to see him have the opportunity to build on what he has accomplished with a new facility and a nice P5 conference to attract players too. If things don't work out that way so be it. Doesn't mean I won't support whoever the administration brings in. But if that happens I don't want to go another 10 years fighting the same battle we are fighting now. Lets all agree that if Mick leaves or stays we will all support the program. We can debate the strategy of the games but in the end lets become united as a fan base. Rather that's Mick or a new coach. If we are truly UC fans that should not be big problem.
