Mick a Candidate for UNLV?

when it's said that Cronin had to raise money himself for certain upgrades, what exactly are we talking about. Bake sales? Car washes? This seems odd to me

Has anyone seen any valid possibilities of who UC would have on their coach wish list?

Good question. And if this was a power play by mick and the admin was prepared, this should have been "leaked" to the press already.

That's what has me worried about this. I'm wondering if the admin has been doing its job to be ready for this. At this point, it seems they haven't. Again, I hope they surprise me.

We are spiraling a bit out of control here. Just going in circles. Let me try to summarize where most people fit so we can get out of this tailspin. In my view, there are 3 main camps.

1. Wants Mick to stay because they think he is the right man for the job.

2. Wants Mick to leave because they don't think he is the right man for the job.

3. Wants the program to be successful requiring changes to happen to facilities, etc.

I think most people, myself included, fall into number 3. If that means Mick is the coach to take us there, great. However, I think most of us can agree the status quo in terms of facilities, charter flights, etc is not going to cut it no matter who the coach is. If this situation with Mick is a means to get those things, then I support it wholeheartedly! If it's a play to just make more money (which I still don't think it is but no one but those directly involved know), no thanks, enjoy UNLV.

Anyone think this is not a fair assessment of this entire situation without rehashing everything all over again?
I'm for no. 3.

I've heard it's Pete Gillan.

If you take care of number 2, you just might be able to avoid the money for #3....or deferr it.

By the way, is there any irony around you labeling us as a #2?

Ha! I would like to say I was witty enough this morning to do that on purpose, but alas, not so much.

To your first point, I still think it is a long shot. Not impossible that you hire a coach that takes you to another level without improvements to the facilities, etc. I just think that probability is quite low, especially being in the American conference. The reality is, if UC can find it's way into a power 5 conference, everything is moot because they will have the money to do all that stuff and will be able to attract great coaches. Our current situation in the American makes this much more unlikely.

You mean like some people acting offended over the coach they've hated for years and wanted fired, actually considering leaving on his own? This place is crazy pill heaven

Who's acting offended. Let me state it again, I am not offended by Mick leaving, I want him gone. You however, as a clear lover of Mick, should be offended that he's willing to turn his back on you.

guys this is in my opinion a rift between AD and coach. Probably a few issues. This is not about Micks salary. Either one is probably enamored with what the other is bringing to the table. I think mick is saying you think can do better have at it. AD is saying we will. President is caught in middle.

Say we get a great coach who turns out to be better than Mick. He takes us to the next level so to speak. You think he will be loyal to UC without those upgrades? Hell no. If he, like our current coach, has to continually raise money personally for chartered flights, practice facility upgrades, and locker rooms he will fly the coup the minute a better offer hits the table. We need to make Cincinnati a destination job for a coach. 2.2 million is a great start but as more and more money floods into college athletics it wont be enough. We are a top 30 program but right now as we stand in our conference and our resources we are NOT a top 30 job.

Not at all, Like I said i wouldn't want whoever the coach is to leave right now.

I'm for #2 and #3

I've heard it's Herb Sendek. People in the upper deck won't be able to tell the difference.

Crap....that might be me in the upper deck. If all those big money rollers who left the program suddenly start coming back when Mick leaves, I may be pushed out of my seats right to the upper deck. And, after 10 years of watching Mick's offense up close, my eyeballs are so damaged that you may be right. It's the same as sitting too close to your computer screen. I've been watching this offense from the 6th row and my eyeballs are shot! I won't know who the coach is from up there.

You can say that 1,000 times and you'll still get the same response. Intellectual dishonesty.

I'd love to see Nick Van Exel. He does coaching now and would be able to pull some good recruits.

Yeah I haven't heard much about him lately. But he went to a Final 4 as a player, played pro forever, had an NBA job in player development, and has now been a head coach. Idk how well he does in the D-League, but that's intriguing.
