Mick a Candidate for UNLV?

Honestly, I think we need some new energy in the program. I think it is stagnant and has been for some time. I don't want to lose anybody, but that definitely is a risk. I think his recruiting has been weak and the fact that he downplays the offense is a major reason why he can't attract top recruits.
There is a good chance your theory will be put to the test

So, as a fan of the program, and of Coach Cronin, I have already decided to come to grips with the fact that he is no longer the coach of the Bearcats. I hope that I am wrong about what is coming next and that the L-T's and UCBearcats of the world can throw back in everyones' faces that they were right because that would mean we are all celebrating success in March in the NCAA Tourney. If I'm right, and this program takes a big step back and the facilities don't get improved, we all lose. It's obvious to me that the AD drew a line in the sand and so did Mick. Their lines were pretty far apart and they couldn't reconcile everything. The safe play (and the right one in my eyes) would have been to upgrade the facilities, the locker room, the charter flights, etc and see what happens. Either Mick takes you to the next level or he runs out of excuses. That's not going to happen now. Bohn better hit a homerun or his days in this town are numbered. Under his watch, the football program has taken a step backward and the basketball program has lost it's coach of 10 seasons who has taken them the NCAA Tourney 6 years straight. He better also hope that Cronin doesn't start bringing in top 10 classes every year and competitng for Championships at UNLV. If UC is in the dumpster and UNLV is winning with Cronin, Bohn will be as popular as Zimpher is around Cincinnati.

At least $2.2 Million salary.
Outstanding facilities
Professional sports town
Promise of new arena in a couple years
Momentum building toward P5 inclusion
Amazing tradition. Top 10-20 program of all time
L-T having your back
Beautiful Campus
Strong academics
A president working hard for the athletic program

We'll get "plenty" of great candidates, but I believe the timing is right for a former Bearcat to return....just a hunch.

Jason the unfortunate thing is many people around town will feel exactly the same way. We will continue as a divided fan base. I also wonder how it will effect donors. Mick obviously had some support of the BOT or he would have been fired. actually for the sake of the program that would have probably been the better option. Now we have created another I told you so moment here at good old UC. I can here the fans as we walk out of 5th/3rd now after a disappointing performance we were better off with ******* Cronin at least we were in the tourney. Hope I'm wrong and we do well but it will still be a open wound for many.

Where are those facilities? I'd love to see them.

I would seriously disagree with the momentum going forward for a power five conference, especially with coaching and roster uncertainty. As far as tradition...true, but over a half of a century removed and it's hard to hang your hat on it as much. Add 2 possible rebuilding eras in 10 years and it gets even worse

seems odd hearing people call the bengals and reds professional sports. Well there's another argument. Such is life as a Cincinnati sports fan. The games may not turn out well but the fans can always debate the reason why.

Wow....I just can't respond again to this. Google "Varsity Village and "Lindner Center" and you'll find state of the art facilities that are fairly new. This was all implemented since Mick has been coach.

So are you considering some facilities without considering all facilities? I'm not surprised. Here's what I know. 5/3 Arena is a dump. Has been for years. That isn't state of the art. Their "practice gym" was there when I was in school. I know because I played intramural games on it. All they did was add sound dampening panels to the walls. State of the art alright. Other schools have a separate "arena" in which all of their practice areas, training areas, weight rooms, and practice courts are located. UC has a multipurpose gymnasium that the team can use to practice on when other programs don't have games. The name of that place: 5/3 arena.

GUYS...WE FINALLY DID IT..........MICK IS GONE..........WHAT GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!!

I know a lot of you Mick Cronin fans can't see it now but once you come back to being Bearcats fans in a few months you'll be excited about the future. We're all going to look back at this in 5 years as one of the greatest moments in UC Basketball.

**be careful what you wish for**

Bearcat fans...don't turn this into an insult throwing thread.

Fair warning.

I understand emotions are high with possibly losing a coach but that doesn't mean the rules don't still apply

Pauly Howard and Ken Thomson cracking jokes already about Cronin on First Preview. "Take the Runnin' out of Rebels." "Horrible fit, horrible fit." "55-53 games every night won't work in this town."
