Mick a Candidate for UNLV?

IF Cronin stays and is able to push the facility and arena timetable up that would heavily effect recruiting in a positive way. He can now tell kids he fights for them not only on the court but off and will make sure they have the best possible environment to play and train.

I understand what you're implying here but I doubt Mick's pitch to kids is going to be that he "fights" against the University for them. Not a good look to tell a kid that the University is an SOB but you can rest assured I'll be fighting against them for you.

I know that's not exactly what you meant, but I seriously doubt this will have a positive effect on recruiting. I'd expect it to remain the same if not decline. Having any sense of instability in a coaches future is a big negative for a kid.

That's true I can agree with that probably shouldn't have used the word fight. But if he uses it correctly this whole situation can be swung in his favor.

Most important things in recruiting are facilities, league affiliation along with putting kids in the NBA. if Mick can drive the bus toward that we will all be happy. He has done a fine job with out those things. he is getting close to achieving those things.

if that is the case their is still much work to be done here. What prompted this? Where are the renovations? Why haven't we heard from Bohn??? Where is our Athletic director? Maybe he needs to start interviewing for jobs?

My guess would be that Cronin could see the improvements potentially continually being pushed out year after year. A commitment to getting something done means nothing without a deadline....that includes lockers, private jets, and arenas. I've also heard he and Bohn don't necessarily see eye to eye.

When you see timeframes getting pushed out...you may think this could take another 5 years...who knows. Why not see what else is out there? Being at your dream job only goes so far until you feel like it's being taken advantage of. Of course I think the AD and president would like nothing more than to offer the arena, plane, and lockers asap if they had the funds available it would be a no brainer....but they don't have that luxury. Their hands are also tied but leverage often can help get things moving faster.

Maybe the AD/pres said we are out of leverage with donors at the moment and Mick took it upon himself to gain some extra leverage. You never know...if it shaves 1 year off of the timelines for upgrades...anything helps.

Better get everything in writing the way things have already gotten pushed out.

WH you maybe on to something. If this was explained to Mick I don't think he would have went to this extent in expressing his displeasure. Its possible he felt like he has been misled by someone.

In his 30s Cronin was in the best conference of all-time. A few years later he is in a 1-bid league that got a #14 seed in the tourney this year. I'm sure he'll go on and on and on and on about how great the league is though :).

In my opinion, the number one thing hindering recruiting is our style of play. We have wonderful facilities. We have conceptual drawings and pictures of this beautiful new arena that's coming. These pictures are standing on tripods all over the place. I saw them at multiple games and at graduation. I'm sure Mick's office is loaded up with them. So, when he brings in a recruit, I'm sure he has been showing every one of them what they will be playing in.

What he can't yet promise them is that they will be playing an exciting brand of basketball that will maximize their chances of making it to the NBA. If I was recruiting against him, I wouldn't even be discussing 5/3 arena. I would be showing them video of our offense, or lack thereof. I would be showing them the score and statistics of our players. That stuff resonates with recruits way more than these other things. As someone else posted the other day, recruits could care less about arena sight lines and comfort. 5/3 is still an attractive arena visually. Yes, it pales in comparison to some new arenas, but it looks better than many other arenas older than it.

I guarantee you that the single biggest factor preventing great recruits from playing here is the style of play connected to Mick Cronin. I'll bet you any amount of money that is why the UNLV players threatened to revolt and leave the program if he gets hired. This damage is done too. It will take years for him to reverse that perception. We can beautify 5/3 to the max and it still won't motivate players and their parents to take a chance of sending their kids here to get mired in slow down boring defensive basketball.

The arena is a big freaking deal but at least get those lockers done and the plane. Those are small potatoes. He could probably live with arena pushed out one more year if lockers and the plane get done.

i'll take that bet. how much money you got?

this is dipshit kids sticking up for their assistant that they like. it's an emotional decision and extremely standard. same shit with andy kennedy. would be the same with larry davis.

to read anything into that is ridiculous.

especially since he did a big portion of the fund raising for the locker room.
