I never had any doubt about Cronin's desire to coach at his alma mater. I had confidence in Mike Thomas going into the offseason, but i cannot lie, I was starting to wonder. This is great news for the team, the university, and the fans. Lets hope Mick can celebrate by gaining a commitment from a big.
Go Bearcats!

Reportedly this came without a raise but with perks

Then Mick put his money where his mouth was when he stated it "wasn't about the money"... I'm sure the new contract is laced with a ton of incentives, hopefully what happened was Mick allocated what UC wanted to give him into the budget for recruiting, facilities, etc...

I don't think paying mick more was the main priority of the negotiations. More money for the budget so the program can continue to make progress was what needed to be dealt with.

According to Bill Koch, it is a true 6-year extension which takes Mick's contract through the 2019-2020 season.

The 6 years is an extension onto the remaining 3 years of his contract. Mick is signed through the 19-20 season.

9 more years! 9 more years! 9 more years! 9 more years!

Only 9? Cronin is a pretty young guy, how about 99 more years?!?!!?!

I am guessing the extension will have to escalate Mick's pay in some form. I doubt he will coach the Bearcats for the next 9 years at his current base pay.

I have been thinking about all of this for the past week or so (the Q&A with Mike Thomas really got my gears turning), but should we expect to see something come out in the near future about how all of this (plus more investment into football and other programs) are going to be funded. Are we going to see a corporate sponsor(s) come forward to announce their support of the university and its athletic mission?

If we were only that lucky- P&G?... GE?... Kroger? (lots of support for OSU and UK from them)... MACY'S for god's sake? lol Hell UDF? Cincinnati Bell?

When Fifth Third took the main naming rights for the 'Shoe, what was their gift? Was it a one time gift?

I'm looking at those companies you've mentioned and they are all in multiple markets except UDF and CB. I doubt most of those companies would want to show favoritism toward one school. I'd actually be happier with a 5/3 re-up. They've become national since they bought the rights.

I believe all the companies I listed have HEADQUARTERS in Cincinnati though.

A Fifth/Third Re-Up would be great... but it's got to be just that- a re-UPPPPPPP in terms of their financial commitment. This program needs it desperately right now.

Correct on both counts.

I will see what I can do.

This is great news. It is also expected news. No one thought he would leave. It was wrongly reported a couple places but this was going to get done and it should have. Mick loves UC and UC loves mick. Makes sense.

I was going to post the same thing. 5/3 is going to have to decide to dump a bunch of cash into UC, much more than ever had before. If the big companies like P&G, Kroger, et al people are not going to give money, UC will have to get a lot more money from the likes of Sheakley, R&L Carriers, Wyler Auto Group, Montgomery Inn, etc.

I am not sure those smaller local companies have enough dough without the help of one or more of the corporate giants headquartered in the region.

R&L is a national truck co. No reason why they can't pony up. They sponsored the NO bowl one year.

From Bill Koch:

Mick Cronin will receive $1.25 million per year in compensation in his new contract, which is actually a 3-year extension, not the six years that Cronin said it was last night. Combined with the three years remaining his current contract, he has six years remaining. The new contract goes through 2017.

Big surprise.

It was pretty entertaining watching all those Bearcat fans that talked about Mick's loyalty to the program get their panties in a bunch over internet rumors though.

Well done Mike and Mick deserved an extension after last year. The program will have to continue to be successful for him to have truly earned it though.

Really found it interesting and encouraging the parts about MT trying to build the infrastructure and Mick raising money for amenities. I think we'll see a more agressive PR push toward the fans next season.
