I got this topic from BCN and it was started by MDW79. I liked the topic so decided to see what you guys think. Here is the latest Mo Egger Blog post...

Bearcats tonight. Come out and blow away Wright State. Carry the momentum from the Dayton game into tonight and win convincingly.

UC hoops attendance has not been good. They marketed the hell out of football this past offseason, understandably and effectively. I don't notice the same push for hoops.I don't hear ads. I don't see ads. I don't really notice anything.

We even offered to have Mick Cronin on our show this week, to talk about the UD win, but also with the idea of talking about the six games the Cats have this month. We offered to accomodate the coach's schedule, given that Bearcat practices are held while we're on the air.

We were denied.

We'll live, but wouldn't you want to try to ride the momentum of that eye-opening win and push your coach out there to try to fill some seats?

Like I said at BCN, I don't blame Mick at all it he doesn't want to go on with Mo. I don't know if that is his reason for not being able to do an interview or not but I have always disliked the way Mo handled himself when it comes to UC hoops.

I know that he is a fan and I appreciate that but I think he has a responsibility to keep the bigger picture in perspective. The fans hear what he says and read his blog posts and he can help them formulate their opinions.

The way he has constantly thrown Mick under the bus when the circumstances were so heavily against us was bullshit in my opinion. He needs to take his emotions out of it and be a voice of reason and remind people that we couldn't expect to be back before 5 years. We were given the death penalty by our administration and former coach. I won't go back into that though.

It is easy to rip on Mick when he had no chance at succeeding but I won't blame Mick if he doesn't forget all the people who took shots when the odds were against him.

I have been frustrated with the program a lot recently. I have been terribly upset and wanted changes but I think the media has to be more level headed and rational.

Am I off base? Thoughts?

Not a big fan of Mo and I think that Mick has the right to go on whatever show he wants. However, I will agree there hasn't been an effort to market this team. It could be by design. Take pressure off of them and allow team to speak for itself and grow on the fan base. There can be as much danger overhyping as there is in not marketing them.

Mo Eggar is an idiot. Last year he said that the players had stopped listening to Mick, and on his blog he mentioned that when one of the players (Davis or Bishop) was told to do something, he went out on the floor and did the opposite. When Dan Hoard brought this up during the coaches show, Mick answered that he doesn't pay attention to the opinion of "some idiot radio producer." I have no problem with Mick not going on some blowhard sports talk host's show, especially one who has frequently espoused that Mick can't coach. There is also a reason that Mo Eggar does not host the weekly coaches show anymore. I say more power to Mick.

This is a failure on Micks part...

Look you want to play in front of a packed house you find ways to get the word out, you market everything you got. Having people listen to Mick talk about the start of the season would have helped.

Put your personal opinions aside, do the interview and create as much buzz around this city as possible.

About Mo's blogs, get real people. If you dont like his stuff, dont read it. Has he been harsh on mick? absolutely. Should he be harsh on what mick has done? Absolutely. Thus far Mick has accomplished little to nothing... Sure this season has started out great, but lets not forget the complete collapses of a season hes coached up...

Get me to a tourney and ill change my opinion.

So you think talking to Mo on 1530 Homer between the 3-6 slot will create a buzz in the city. You give him and his listeners too much credit. Maybe Mo should be know as TheLivingLegend:D

Who decides whether to go to a game by listening to Mo?
I sure don't. I get excited by seeing good play or reading about some player tearing it up.

Cronin is not the most charismatic dude when it comes to broadcast. He's no Brian Kelly with the tone and turn of the phrase that gets people's ear. It'd be nice if he were that way, but it's really okay. He should focus on his strengths and making sure the team is prepared as best he can.

Mo hasn't been fair IMO and you can't expect Cronin to support someone who is consistently down on him.

We're five wins in, which is nothing in the long run, but at least that's on the road to showing fans why they should come out to the game.

I completely agree with LL. This is may be a bad analogy, but here it goes:

Say I work for a company and am in sales. (I'm basically Mick) Ok, let's say a few year back a person I worked with (Mo) bad mouthed me to a client, which made me look bad. Now, what they said was true but I really found it unprofessional. Me (Mick) and this person (Mo) no longer got along well at the office. Blah, blah, blah...

Move ahead a few years. The person who bad mouthed took a position as a buyer for one of our prospective customers. As it stands, my sales are below average and business stinks. (Attendance) Do I call the guy, and try to service his company, to make a sale or do I not even try b/c of personal issues with him? (Keep in mind this is after he reached out to me about doing some business.)

What would my boss think if I let a potential client drop off b/c of a personal dispute, when our company is bleeding money, is in the red, and is barely afloat? The customer call me for a sale and I let the deal walk? Is this a bad analogy? Probably. But business is business. And this business equates to millions upon millions of dollars flowing in and out.

Let's be clear here, Mo is not employed by the University. He repeated what he heard, while sitting courtside. His job is to cover sports. Mick's job is coach basketball and, to an extent, market the program. If anyone is, who's not being professional, who's not doing their job here? I think the only answer is Mick.

If Toyota runs an add during the channel 19 news tonight, does that make Tricia Mackey unprofessional if she covers a story about bad breaks or some shit tomorrow morning on Camry's? No. (I believe UC foots the bill for the Mick Cronin show much like Toyota pays for time)

I'm not sure why people took offense to Mo repeating what he heard. It's his job to talk sports. And if you don't like him and think he's a moron, then don't listen. Btw, how do you feel about Chuck and Dan? They didn't/don't seem to be offended. I think the only one who took exception was Mick. And you know what? Mick gets paid millions to do a job. I'm not saying I know he's the reason alone that no interview was granted, but if he is, he's doing a disservice to the position.

First off, why does he need to "take his emotions out of it and be a voice of reason?" Where in his job does it say he has to "soften" the blow that UC and Mick were creating to it's fans? Is he supposed to continue to look past it for so long? Wouldn't you say that someone who doesn't question coaches in tough times is someone who is not doing their job? He doesn't work with UC, and he shouldn't have to help "protect" UC when they are down. He probably gained more fans when he was looking for answers, as all UC fans were.

Taking shots at the program? Please, I would be shocked if every media outlet in Cinci didn't say something negative about the program. He is reporting/covering the news, not turning a blind eye to it. That's his job, again it's not his job to act like it's all roses when it really isn't.

You are extremely off base. If he worked for UC then you wouldn't be, but he is doing his job. I really think he didn't start asking the "hard" questions until about late 4th year any way. It's not like he was unrealistic in the first few years of the new program. I think maybe you were upset he was calling it like it was, and it was making UC look "bad."

I think come Big East time the arena will have a lot more butts in the seats.. No one really wants to come in and watch a no name team get blown away( besides me). If it were Xavier or any other good Big east team Fifth third would be practically sold out.. Lets face it 80% of people are fair weather fans and they will only show if UC is doing well.. This years team will bring fans with there enthusiasm and hard nosed defense... As for MO im glad Mick didnt go for his show, now that UC is starting to come around he wants Cronin on, he sucks and Cronin not going on his show will not hurt anything, but finally the team and little Micky are showing some nards and pride.. GO UC!!!!!

I have no problem with Mo nor Mick in this case. I enjoy Mo's show, mainly due to his love for Cincinnati sports, especially the Bearcats. The only difference between Mo and the majority of the people on any UC forum, is that Mo's voice is heard by more. Over the past couple of years, like many, he has been wanting the best for the 'Cats. His frustrations could be heard on his radio show, as it would for any other die-hard fan of a team if given the opportunity to have a radio/tv show. I think Mo brought up a great point about UC advertising the basketball program over the last couple of years. I have enjoyed the rise of the football program, but like Mo, I really miss the days of having a prominent, and known nationwide basketball program. I respect Mick for choosing his battles, and avoiding any unnecessary drama. Mick is doing a great job by just focusing on winning. Athletes, coaches, celebrities, etc., are going to have quarrels with the media (of all types). Again I enjoy Mo's show because I can relate to him. Throughout the last couple of seasons, I have been a believer in Mick, almost could be considered an apologist. Despite my faith in Mick, like Mo, there have been times where I questioned different aspects of UC basketball. My frustrations/concerns have been evident if you know, and would be evident in my voice if I was on the radio. When it comes down to it, if the 'Cats keep making progress, both Mick and Mo will be happy. I know I will be (happier than I am now with this team so far).
Go Bearcats!

Mick should have gone on the show, it's free publicity, he gets to make his message known to the listeners. Instead, we will continue to get Mo's opinion only. If you are going to hold a grudge, never make it against the local media, not only will they get the last word, they will get the only word.

Win and none of that matters... none of it.

That's exactly what Mick is doing right now. Take care of these next two cupcakes then go to Oklahoma and pick up another good OOC victory against OU and this thing will really start rolling.

Agree with LL.

Mo Egger is the only UC fan with a daily show on either on 1530 or 700WLW.

Simply not true. Lance McAlister is also a UC fan and has made no bones about it. The Athletic Department has not done a very good job marketing this program. Don't think we can argue that.

With the disappointment of last year, I think any marketing would have fallen on deaf ears leading up to the start of the season. With the impressive Dayton win and continued strong performances in the OOC, I think people will take notice. The start of Big East play is when the marketing department needs to strike.
