I understand what you are saying, but some sites did list him as an SG while we were recruiting him. He is pretty big for a PG, but his skill set fits the PG position very well. Snider is a pure PG, there is no debate about what he is.

The best point guards are the tallest ones because they can see the whole court Michael Carter Williams anyone?

The same site didn't actually see him play in person. If you've seen Troy play there is no question what position he plays and it isn't SG...

Scout, Maxpreps, Rivals, and ESPN list him as a SG. I don't agree with it either, but he definitely isn't your typical PG, and I mean that in the best way possible. Any time you can have a tall and strong PG who can make smart decisions, you take it. He doesn't have the usual PG build, I would say Johnson is built more like a point guard. Caupain is definitely more skilled right now as a distributor than Johnson is, but I think with time, Johnson could develop into a good PG. They also could leave him at SG and he would still develop into a good player, but I think he has the potential to be a nice 1-2 punch with Caupain.

Scout and Rivals never scouted Troy. I know because their national guys told me they didn't see him. I think Telep saw him once, but he was playing injured at an Under Armor event in Dallas. His measurables say SG and since they didn't see him in person, he was listed as a SG. When he played with Frank Mason who ended up at Kansas it was Troy that ran the show more often than not...

This is a really great insight into the inner workings of scouting services. So often we get wrapped up in how many stars a player has by his name and assume that Scout, Rivals, ESPN did their due dilligence on each player...when realistically it would be impossible to do so. From a transparency standpoint, especially if people are paying for the services, they should acknowledge they arrived at a rating without having scouted the player. Perhaps they already do, I don't know.

Telep actually mentioned in a write up that he had been excited to see Troy and was disappointed that he was hurt.
