Morman

Players and coaches words

First you say "reports were he was the best defender on the team". OK...I think that is believable and probably true.

Then you say he "probably dominated TC and KJ" in practice.

Then you to spin it into this "coaches and players words" as if dominating players in practice and being the best defender are even remotely close to the same thing.

The fact of the matter is he was a "spot minute guy" for one reason or another he was not a full timer (yet). That means there were other players dominating Morman on other parts of the game that matter. Those aren't coaches words...that is just common sense.

You can run around and hustle like a mad man...but if you aren't doing what the coaches tell you to do or not do...you become a "spot minute guy". That is a guy they can't trust in the game for 30 minutes because they aren't willing to execute the game plan. Or "uncoachable".

Mormon seemed to be a case in which a player thinks he's a lot better than he really is. Showed bad body language and attitude and didn't progress on the offensive end at all. Very good defensively and played hard but Mick doesn't put up with bad attitudes.

As I have heard it, Lawrence transferred because he wasn't happy here. There were some issues here and he had some issues resulting in a suspension at Manhattan. I think his dad's illness was convenient to allow him to play right away and may have led to him picking Manhattan but I don't believe for a second that it was the reason from transferring from UC.

You think his dad's illness is "convenient," huh? First time I've heard cancer called convenient... Morman's situation is nothing like that.

He played only 241 minutes as a freshman. How was he supposed to show progress on offense? KJ got 149 minutes just in the 6 game stretch where he shot 9-40. And he was a soph who had already been playing over half the game to that point. I really don't get why Morman wasn't allowed to make freshman mistakes. And I also don't get why his offense is so unacceptable when we just watched a whole season of 62 ppg with Sanders out there.

Show me one report where Mormon got suspended for attitude??? Pretty sure it was around report card time when he left.

When you struggle scoring 50 and nobody avg 10, I have problem with players that don't have problem with that. If you go 3/20 and don't show frustration your not good to begin with.

How can I call you best defender on tean full of great defensive players if you didn't dominate on defensive end at practice? He also had to guard SK at practice last year don't forget.

I remember that quote. Mick said he was the most talented defender either on the team or that he's ever coached, not sure which one. He also said Gary was the most talented/college ready freshman he's had coming in. Re-recruit Morman if he's thinking about leaving. Having to sit out another year should be enough to keep him (if our coaches do want him back)

He also had an entire offseason to work with Bearcat coaches on improving his jumpshot or all around game and to me it seemed as though he didn't take advantage of that. And it wasn't just it lack of offense that doomed him it was that combined with really bad turnovers and repeatedly showing bad body language and attitude when being subbed out. No one person is above the team everyone gets replaced in a game but you keep ur mouth shut and be a good teammate.

You can tell a lot from a players body language about his attitude. There's a difference between being frustrated about your play and being a selfish ball player.

He has the potential to be a great defensive player but as has been noted over and over he must learn to play in the framework of a team. My hope is that he will return but the longer this goes on the less likely it seems. Let's stop beating a dead horse. Time will tell.

If you are being pulled on offense and put back in on defense at the end of a game where there are so many stoppages of play and the coach says go in and you say no that's pretty much an attitude thing.

First I've heard of this. Do you have a source?

That link I posted was from earlier in the year than correct me if I'm wrong but the second issue was during the UCONN game.

once again if your happy go lucky and just accept coming in game with walk ons when your competition only scoring 4pts.

Morman had/has potential but you simply don't do that stuff that he did. And not only that, he wasn't that good when he was in. He had opportunities and he didn't take advantage of them. That's on him.

I think Morman could have been good at UC and I still think there is a decent chance he stays with UC given the fact that he's already sat out a year, but I generally like my shooting guards to be able to shoot.
