Morman

Morman had/has potential but you simply don't do that stuff that he did. And not only that, he wasn't that good when he was in. He had opportunities and he didn't take advantage of them. That's on him.

I think Morman could have been good at UC and I still think there is a decent chance he stays with UC given the fact that he's already sat out a year, but I generally like my shooting guards to be able to shoot.
We haven't had a 2 that could shoot in years.

For the most part, I agree, and it's been a big issue with UC. I'd argue SK could shoot, granted his percentages weren't great but a lot was due to being the only shooter on the team. Teams feared him being open out there.

But Morman certainly wasn't the answer to their shooting woe's.

His percentages would've been great had our team had other scorers, and he wasn't forced to shoot too much. See Fresh/Soph year percentages.

I'll take a player that can play tremendous defense and attack rim to draw fouls over shooter all day. I'm pretty sure he NEVER was looked at as being shooter during recruiting process. Another major part of his game was being best passer on team. We need him back on this team bad to be honest.

In the 241 minutes he played, I didn't see a whole lot of what you're mentioning. He did in fact get his chances, and didn't impress. Much like Quad, but with Quad's improved attitude, he got some more chances.

I don't like to keep saying the same things over and over but if you can't shoot you have to have guys get to the rim and make fts. UC needs some shooters but in absence they have to have scorers. Ideally you have both. One to stretch the D for easy drives and also to make you pay when you pack it in to stop the drive.

His defense was anything but great. It had potential, but he gave up a lot of points when he was in because he didn't understand how to play team defense.

You didn't see him attack and draw fouls? He had 36 FT attempts in the 8 games in which he played 15+ minutes (AND he only played over 20 min once). For comparison, he had 36 FT attempts in 141 minutes in games where we got a real look. KJ had 44 FT attempts in 742 minutes on the season. If Morman did ONE thing, it was attack and draw fouls...

I strongly believe Morman (if he stays) is that slasher that we need and will provide the Rashad Bishop lockdown D, and that does come off the praise Mick himself has given Morman's defense. I know his job is to hype up his team, but he clearly said in a Cincinnati Enquire article that Morman was the best defender in practice either last year or this year. Not sure which one. He was behind KJ to begin with, then we brought in a JUCO 3 point shooter that took a lot of his playing time he thought he earned. I'm sure that was enough to discourage him this year.

True, but not a whole lot of good came from it, I guess is what I'm saying. Shot 65% from the line when he did get fouled, which is subpar for a guard, and when he drove and didn't get fouled, he shot 39% from 2-point range.

Yeah, he was a freshman though. I dunno, I don't wanna make it sound like he was great, but I'd like to see what he can do 2-3 years from now.

when a player senses favoritism and politics it's natural to be discourage. I like the fight in him and hopes he returns.

WE NEED PLAYERS WHO CAN SHOOT

Couldn't agree more! That's why there is a scoreboard in the arena. There is too much importance placed on defense, length, strength, quickness, jumping ability, and not enough on being able to shoot the ball. All aspects are important, but you need at least 2 or 3 out of 12 who can score.

You don't remember him getting a chance in the UK game, airballing a three, then winding up on UK posters? Certainly didn't go well, but he got that chance for getting his act together.
Lmao yea he got a chance out of hell. Should've been developing him all season for that moment.

It is discouraging when the coach favors other players who give the team a better chance to win. Most players wish it was them or already think it should be them. Some players work hard to change the coaches perception and some players will quit and move on to somewhere where it's easier to get playing time.

I hope he chooses to stay and work and fight! It will be worth it in the long run for the program and for Morman!

Cincinnati's Deshaun Morman will transfer, per the school. Three years of eligibility remaining.
