Adam Zagoria is now reporting that the ACC is in talks with UConn, USF, Louisville, and Cincinnati. My guess is that UConn will take the place of Maryland and that the Big East won't sweat too much over the loss of Rutgers (despite the loss in market share - and NY/NJ is a huge market, for sure - a new TV deal is imminent), given that several schools are already lined up to join in the coming years. Nevertheless, I think FSU wants out of the ACC, too (SEC is probable), as they also (with Maryland) voted against raising the exit fee. That said, I don't think this is the last we'll hear of it.

I don't think Louisville or Cincinnati would jump ship without assuring that both schools are invited to the same conference. Any thoughts?

UL and UC are independent institutions. If UL gets an invite to the ACC, they will take it. I don't think that will happen (I happen to think UCONN will get the invite). People who believe that somehow UC and UL are tied, are incorrect. They could end up in the same conference when it is all said and done but I would be surprised if it was a "package deal." I could see the Big 12 looking to move now that the SEC has 14 and the B1G will have 14. BYU could cause problems with UC getting an invite to the Big 12 but I could see a scenario where UC, UL, BYU and Boise all join the Big 12 at some point.

I guess when its all said and done, I simply just want UC to be in one of those power conferences. I mean if the Big 10 takes Rutgers then surely we should be able to get in somewhere. This is just really frustrating all this is happening because I enjoyed the Big East in both football and basketball. I think it was a good conference in football with many football programs on a similar talent level with basketball speaking for itself. Do you guy feel UC will at least get to go to either the Big 12 or ACC. I am pretty much assuming the Big 10 is out of the picture.

I can also seeing UL getting an invite before us simply because their facilities/attendance are light years ahead of UC so I don't see them being a package group.

I think Cincinnati will end up in one of the power conferences, eventually. But, you bring up a good point about facilities and attendance. Until we can upgrade Nippert and 5/3, we may be on the outside looking in. It also doesn't help that our football coach needs to address the crowd during halftime at a basketball game in order to garner support for a good football team. Cincinnati's success speaks for itself, though, and I think we could compete in both football and basketball in any power conference (although football may require a bit of a learning curve). My guess, and my hope, is that UC and UL end up in the Big 12 at some point, especially if realignment continues and other schools continue to be poached from the Big East. Concerning the Big 10, there's no way Ohio State allows us to receive an invitation.

I think UConn may get the screw, I find it hard to believe the ACC will ditch academic prestige and take on UL either though. I guess we can hope Florida State and/or Clemson leave. Other than that, I feel kind of sick. :(

The ACC will not exist within a few years as all the current members will be gobbled up by the 4 sixteen team mega conferences that will remain when all is finally completed.

Syracuse and Pitt might as well not even bother leaving the Big East as they will soon be back.

I think UC and UL will end up in either ACC or Big 12. At this point, I would welcome both, considering one is great in basketball and the other is solid in football. We must leave the BE!!!!

You've said the same thing about the Big 12 in the past. So if the Big 12 and the ACC are going to go away then how are there still 4 power conferences? Does your future list look like this? Just want to be clear about what ridiculous argument you're trying to make this time.

Big 10
SEC
Pac 12
Big East

The Big 12 got lucky, they became number 4 when Texas, Texas Tech, Okla., and Okla. State did not get into the PAC -12. The Big 12 was then able to sign a $3 billion TV deal and align themselves with the SEC for the $80 million Champions Bowl. The Big East was within an eyelash of adding Kansas, Kansas State, and Iowa State, it was going to be announced on the Monday after Texas, TT, OU, and OSU were accepted into the PAC-12.

The 4 mega conferences will be the Big 10, Big 12, SEC, and PAC-12. When the Big 10, Big 12, and SEC all have 16 members the PAC-12 will go to 16.

But you said just days ago the big 12 will not expand because "everyone is happy" and that they "Don't want to share their revenues"?

Looks like I am right as usual and I have decimated your argument once again

Actually, when you typed it, you were as always wrong, and, of this moment, you remain as always wrong. The Big 12 has not announced any expansion plans, if expansion will not give each of the current 10 teams more money the Big 12 will not expand. The expansion of the Big 10 has most probably changed everyone's plans including the PAC 12, which has also shunned expansion past 12 but will now be put in the position of needing 16 to generate revenue equal to the Jones'es.

You are being silly and backtracking

Nope, you are incorrect as always.

ESPN is deciding who will replace Maryland.

Texas AD Dodds stated again yesterday after the Maryland to the Big 10 announcement that the Big 12 was going to stay at 10 members.

" DeLoss Dodds on realignment: "We like 10 and continue to like 10. (Wud B12 expand?) "Not with what I know. I think we’re all committed to 10."

Looks like yesterday was once again another very bad day for Bearcat Mick.

You are clueless! Sec will make the next move and then the big 12. Dodds is speaking like a politician. Do you believe politicians as well?

If I'm UC I am running to the ACC and pleading to get a invite. The ACC will be one of the last 4 standing. They will be a great football and basketball league. All this talk about surviving in the BE is garbage. Start looking for a better situation longterm. With all the money they have invested in Football there is no way they can survive or get a return on investment staying in BE. GET PROACTIVE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes they probably are but no body wants them so they have to promote the BE and stand behind it.

You need to run to ESPN to get an invite to the ACC.

The ACC, in the long run, will go out of existence.

The surviving Big 4 will be SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12 all with at least 16 members.

Just got this email, I'm many of you also got it. Looks like they are trying to be proactive.

Dear UC Community,

Given the recent developments in athletics conference realignment, I want our Bearcat family to know that we are not only closely monitoring the situation but also working proactively to protect and serve the best interests of the University.

Our message to the broader community is that UC is firmly committed to competing at the highest level, both on and off the field. From our research profile to our number of national merit scholars, UC stands tall as one of the top public research universities in the nation. Moreover, we are building a remarkable amount of momentum, as evidenced by our 17 spot leap in the U.S. News & World Report ranking over the past two years.

Also impressive is the heightened success of our athletic programs. Last year, for instance, UC ended the season with top 25 finishes in both football and basketball--a fact that only five other schools in the country can claim. Plus, the academic success of our student-athletes has never been stronger.

In short, UC has a terrific story to tell, and we will not miss an opportunity to share our aspirations and accomplishments with our peers.

During this time of fast-paced developments, as well as widespread rumors, I respectfully ask for your patience and understanding. Please know that we are doing all that we can to secure the best outcome for UC.

I deeply appreciate the input and support of our loyal fans as well as the tremendous efforts of our teams, coaches, student-athletes and athletic director.
