Move to ACC?

Help Support BearcatTalk:

ESPN says sources say the ACC is looking to add UL to replace Maryland. They are not looking to add UC or UCONN right now. The ACC is wating to see if they lose any more teams then they will most likely ask UC and UCONN because they know they will still be there. :-/

As I just posted on another thread, attendance hurts UC in this realignment process. Everything else is comparable when looking at most of the other universities who have switched leagues. If UC's own fan base won't support their major programs why would another league? The University has to do a better job of marketing it's programs.

The other problem is the UC athletic budget. They just don't have the finances that Louisville or even UConn have available to them.

Relax, people. Our turn is coming. FSU is heading to the SEC. UC is next in line.

I was reading more into it and articles were saying FSU and Clemson are going to leave once they learn how much Maryland has to pay. Hopefully there is some truth in these statements. I will hope for this and stay positive, watch this clip for reinforcement:

Incorrect. The sec is already in the Florida market with the gators. The sec wants new markets in Virginia tech and nc state

Fsu will go to the big12

Yup. BearcatMick is right on this one. The Big 12 will be the likely landing spot. If people want to get crazy, could the Big Ten come a calling? There is no way they are going to stay at 14. UNC seems like a target but wouldn't FSU make some sense too?

Competition wise UC has it all. But with the struggling attendance at bball games and a less than 40k seat football stadium, its going to take some bargaining. Think Bjeff has mentioned something similar to this

TV dollars are huge also and when you struggle to fill the stands its hard to have buy in from other conferences that your veiwing market is big enough

Although hes a dbag, UofL has Papa Johns Field, with 65k plus and the brand new Yum center that sells out

"The ACC also considered UConn and Cincinnati for membership. However, sources told ESPN the league wanted Louisville only because there is a sense among league presidents that the ACC can add more schools at a later date if the conference loses any other schools."

We are the poor step child and we will go when we are told. They don't want us, but if one of their schools leave they have no choice to take us. It is a said day when we have to politic our way in a conference. We are like the fat kid picked last for kickball. lol

I don't think UC was ever even seriously considered. BCL is a garbage site (there are good guys like Chad and Tim) and they clearly were the ones pushing this rumor. It is really funny too see how BCL caused not only UC message boards to think we were in, but UofL and NCST ones too.

Its sad that Maryland has to cut 6 sports from their school to join the big 10. This whole conference realignment is sickening and a sad day. It makes me not respect collegiate sports now.

BCL is awful

I agree with this but it's I also don't understand it at all. Why would FSU want to go to the Big 12? I makes no sense. The Big 12 wasn't good enough for Texas A&M, Nebraska or Colorado but it's a desirable landing spot for FSU? That seems to be what everyone has been saying but I really don't get it.

The ACC has the backing of ESPN and just signed a large TV contract and convinced ND to make more of a commitment to any conference than they have in the past. I could see wanting to leave for the Big 10 money or the SEC swagger but for FSU and Clemson to bolt to the Big 12 makes the least sense of anything that's happened so far in conference alignment.

The Big 12 is a better football conference and is actually a better bet to be around should one more major conference go down like the Big East is. Of course FSU would rather be in the SEC but Florida is not going to let that happen. The Big 12 would want FSU to expand it's recruiting into the sunshine state and with programs like Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma State and then FSU, the new money for a TV contract would be big. I think FSU would like to be one of these three conferences in this order:

1. SEC
2. Big Ten
3. Big 12

Why the Big Ten? Two reasons. One, the money (obviously). Two, they could dominate in a weak football conference that has the prestige of a big time football conference and have a great opportunity at the money that comes along with the Rose Bowl. The downside? Playing a bunch of games in cold weather every single year. Florida teams don't like playing in the cold. That may be enough to push them to the Big 12 but I still think money wins out if they have a choice.

So lets say now that UL is the last team to join, things stay idle in the realignment...wouldn't it just be a smarter idea to just shut down the BE all together and let the teams find a place? The Big East is done and no longer should be a conference, its crazy to think us and UCONN are the only big schools still here.
