Guys really looked like they are getting more comfortable with each other. Saw some nice passes for lay ups today.
 
Loved the back cuts and passes going toward the basket. Wow, what do you know? The sky isn't falling :)
 
Great win and great team play. This team is playing much better, moving the ball and getting the ball inside. Conference play starts in a few days. Nice to enter on a high note.

I completely agree. They were patient and made the correct passes. Very encouraging to see the guys all on the same page. Deberry was awesome today. I hope he continues improving. He could be impossible to stop down low next year.

Coach Davis is doing a good job but you're seeing the growth process of a team. The same Coach Davis who took criticism for not making defensive adjustments against VCU coached today. I'm sure he's adding his touch, and I know MC is in touch. Give players and the coaches credit for rallying around the situation. The guys looked much more comfortable today and they made shots. It was a very good win.
 
We looked like a team that was focused on winning. Lots of winning plays. No one was timid and thinking about what they should be doing.

Also, I'm pretty sure I heard "Jarad" Cobb and Quadri "Monroe" from the announcer.
 
Reminds me of the Memphis road game last year. NC State is a very poor defensive team, but I was incredibly impressed with the front court's potential to score the ball. Clark, DeBerry and Ellis will continue to improve...

I will give him a pass no matter what anyone says for VCU. Sure, we looked like crap, but I still believe it had a lot to do with "you are now head coach, have fun chief," a smack on the butt, and off he had to go to the races. Not too amazing that some actual preparation time leads to good results, but this game was way more than I could have hoped for.

I was really impressed with our spacing and passing on offense. We finally moved the ball well and never got stagnant. NCST had some really good size and length on the floor but our spacing really took that away for NCST.

We also made shots which is going to make any offense look good lol but you can tell UC worked on spacing.

These guys have never played a 40 minute complete team game like that. We need to see this a lot more often. Great effort today. Great focus.

I agree. We also played with some serious toughness and grit. We never let up and we just kept the pressure on them. I loved hearing NCST fan's and even bench complain the entire game. They thought everything we did was a foul. We got in their head for sure.
 
Just proves they don't need to hit 3s to win a ballgame. What they need is to get good shots and keep shooting them even when they're not falling. I like bringing Ellis, Clark and Deberry to the high post a little bit against the zone so guys like Shaq can cut to the hoop. Most importantly, the guards and forwards found good angles to enter the ball into the low post instead of lobbing it in from awkward angles.

Like the VCU game, it's just one game so hard to know what to derive from it long-term. You have to believe it helps team confidence tremendously though.

Thank you Shaq, for starting the game aggressively and finishing it the same way.
 
Matchup zone worked much better today against better shooters than it did vs. VCU. NCST has 3 guys that shoot 40% or better from 3 and another that shoots 34%. Difference is they only let them get 5 shots off from deep.

I would really like to see more Morman and less KJ. Morman had same stats or better in 3 mins of PT than KJ did in 24. KJ is second on team in 3 attempts making 28%. Sanders or Troy should be after Cobb in attempts. The flagrant today, agree it was a bad call, but even if he fouled and Anya made the shot it would have been better than what happened. You just can't leave it up to the officials to make that call, either go for ball and foul or let him go, could have been costly foul, was 4 point swing. Same in SDSU game, if he lets guy go by him there is no way officials make foul call. Saying that every time they threatened to get within 9 or 10 we answered, and it was a complete team effort.
 
Davis said in the post game that Mick is spending all his time watching tape and letting Davis run the day to day practices and activities. Maybe the extra film time has opened Mick's eyes to some things (better cuts, spacing and crisper passes), or maybe they just made some shots today they normally miss. ..

If that's the case, let's get him a hexcopter drone to fly over the games with his face taped on it, since it looks like it worked.
