Davis said in the post game that Mick is spending all his time watching tape and letting Davis run the day to day practices and activities. Maybe the extra film time has opened Mick's eyes to some things (better cuts, spacing and crisper passes), or maybe they just made some shots today they normally miss. ..

I think its a cumulation of everything. But let's be honest, they made shots they normal have been missing. But on the flip side you could easily notice the improvement in spacing and movement on offense. It made such a big difference.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the improved offense? I've been critical on Mick, in part, because I think he can be one of the great coaches. In the same breath as Coach K., Pitino, etc. Listen to his post games. He's very knowledgeable.

But, today was one of the more enjoyable games I've watched as a UC fan in years. Very well-balanced. Guys played hard but loose.

I think one of the reasons we struggle so much on offense is that Mick micro manages to a fault. Constant yelling (including profanities) and negativity. We never seem in rhythm on offense. But, we were in rhythm today.

Take a lesson from John Wooden. When it's gametime, let the guys play. Don't pull a guy, because he misses one box-out. It's okay to make in-game adjustments, and you should, but put a little trust in the guys to execute what you teach in practice, without verbal instruction on every possession.

All in all, awesome effort from the team and Coach Davis.

Oh bulldog where are you? Like I said, this team will grow and improve. There will be more VCU games, but the development of this team is fun.

A little off topic but did anyone notice NCST upcoming five games or so?! Pitt, Virginia, Duke, UNC, Florida St. The acc will brutal for teams.

I think Mick overdoes it too. He subs at times when it's not necessary. I suppose one could say that of any coach, but it makes it difficult to get into a rhythm on the court. Davis is doing a nice job. The team does seem to be loose and playing well together. Maybe the illness will cause Mick to turn over a new leaf and be nice Mick rather that foul Mick when he's mad at players or the team. The team and players seem to be coming around. I wish it didn't take 12 games to start seeing the improvements.

He lost his top 3 performers from last year. 1 a first team AA. You didn't think there would be some transition time?

Nothing wrong with accountability. Huggs,Pitino and other greats are quick with the hook and in your face coaches. Those are his mentors. He doesn't need to turn over a new leaf. he needs to get well and get back to what he does, Win games.

Wooden while a great Coach had superior talent to work with. Huggins wasn't a Wooden clone either. He was foul mouthed and in your face. The kids that play for him love him. He shouldn't change a thing. He just needs to get a few more talented players. As he continuew to demonstrate he can coach and his rep on the national level grows he will get better players. Right now he gets the most out of the kids who come here.

Guys consider this my last post for awhile. I'll be joining NTS. This site is going to heck.

Two gmes back many were screaming after the VCU and Wagner game ( a win mind you) how bad this team was. Now after a road win against a unranked team a few are indicating its Micks style holding us back and hopefully his illness will turn him into a better coach. Laughable!

Enjoy the games and have a good year.

I hope this is a joke and we will see you in 2015!!

I am with you Hoyt. The amount if negativity on here even after wins makes my eyes burn.

It is more that posters have a very short term memory on here. Against VCU posters attacked Davis, questioning if he knows what he is doing, claiming he doesn't know how to run an offense. After last night, Davis is coaching well and letting guys be loose and Cronin being out is helping team b/c he manages to a fault or micro manages. Very few look at the big picture.

Enjoy the win! Now on to a tough SMU team.

Wouldn't say I've been one of "those" fans very often in my 26 years following this program (beginning with my first year at UC in 1988), but there have been occasions where I've vented frustrations at the team, players, and coaches over the years. I've cried after a loss or two; I've also traveled to see the team play at various times and even met the '93 team at the airport with about 200 fans after their loss to UNC in the Elite Eight. Most of the folks on this board probably have had similar experiences at one time or another.

Point is, fans have vested their time, emotions, and often money into following the UC program - most often enduring fairly long periods of hardship before finally enjoying the spoils of success. We've all seen what the football program looked like before 2000; some of us are old enough to remember 1983 (3-25, think about that for a second) and the depths the basketball program had sunk to prior to Huggins' arrival.

It's human nature when you're vested in something like this, yet have very little control over it, to get overly emotional and frustrated in the heat of the moment. It doesn't make anyone less of a fan or alum to get upset when a program struggles. Personal attacks are a bit much but to criticize performance, recruiting, etc is fine with me. When you've lived part of your fan life as a bottom feeder (and in the case of basketball, scraped the bottom twice in our lifetimes) it heightens the urgency even more.

Can we stop questioning one another's motives and just let folks be the kind of fan they want to be? Just because someone fires off a vituperative msg board post after a loss is not an indication of their fitness as a Bearcat supporter, it just means they give a damn. When this board is devoid of commentary, positive or negative, is when we have a real problem.

I didn't see much of the game because I was at work, but it was nice to see UC shoot so well and obviously our Defense was as good as usual. In the few possessions I did watch, UC looked great and made shots. It was a big win. SMU is one of the top teams in our league, so beating NC State was huge going in.

Also, NC State will be a boost to our RPI by the sheer fact that they are in the ACC.

The VCU loss was an aberration on many fronts. Coach Davis didn't do a particularly good job with sub patterns or adjustments (almost had a stroke when he stayed in that zone during the 1st half) but it's hard to blame him, considering the circumstances.

They had plenty of time to prepare for NC State and Coach Cronin had plenty of input. There was also talk from one of the announcers (Daugherty?) about the ferocity with which Davis got after the guys during their walkthrough, so perhaps the meme about Coach Larry's kinder, gentler approach is slightly exaggerated ;)

Last night I think we saw what this team can do if they focus in the post more on offense. Our bigs did a great job and I would like to see more of that style of offense.

Great posts doogle! Well put.

I agree. I don't get why people feel they have to leave the site. Either ignore a post you think is ridiculous, or explain why you disagree. Everyone is so ready to either fire off some insults and shut the conversation down or announce they're leaving the board...it's a little much.
