This team has played about how I thought they would this early in the season. I knew consistency would be an issue and expected a few losses due to some tough OOC games. The defense is much further along than I expected. Offensively, I feel the guard play isn't where I thought it would be early in the season. I thought KJ and Shaq would have played better, with more minutes for KJ and more shots for Shaq. That being said the bigs have exceeded my expectations. Ellis is a game changer defensively and is very active on the glass. Clark has great patience and low-post moves as a freshman, and is a monster on the glass. DeBerry has shown that he can provide positive minutes off the bench and is hard to handle in the paint. Moore has the best shooting touch for a freshman big man that I've seen here in a while, has a high ceiling.

This is now the part of the schedule where you can afford any bad losses. There are still some quality wins available in conference and still the crosstown shootout.

I am hoping for 14-4 conference with a win over Xavier the rest of the way. I think that is a very realistic goal given the struggles of the conference so far.

24-7 (14-4) would be good enough for an at-large bid. However that might be best case scenario with Cronin out indefinitely and the offense still inconsistent at the moment.

With people being banned and two long time posters announce they need a break, there are undoubtedly issues.

I haven't posted in quite some time as the board has been very negative. I do hope it changes. Telling it like it is a good thing but you can go overboard. There is a lot to like about what is going on with the Bearcats in both football and basketball. It will be fun to see the basketball team start to gel and mature as the season progresses and will be exciting to see the new Nippert Stadium and the team with the newer recruits going forward. Potential movement to another conference is also something to watch for.

Social media is or can be a very negative reality. I choose to be more positive!

GO Bearcats!!!!!!

I am impressed by the big guys as well. 36 minutes with 1 foul for Clark yesterday. He plays like a veteran and with Ellis and DeBerry picking up fouls we really needed that. DeBerry has great touch and I love his ability to actually put it on the floor a little. He goes at the rim like a freight train and his big hands allow him to stay under control through the process. Beautiful thing.
As for the guards, someone suggested more Morman and less KJ. I could get on board with that. I'm still willing to give KJ a big chance, but Morman can do a lot of things that KJ can't. So if KJ is off from 3, might as well put Morman in.
I think 24-7 is a tad optimistic. I could see it. After all, I did have us winning the conference in the preseason so it has to be right around t here. I'll say 23-8. But it starts with a W on Saturday.

When has KJ been "on" from 3? Answer probably is against Stony Brook, he was 2-2. Posters on here say that Kilpatrick was a volume shooter and was not a good percentage shooter. SK's worst year he shot 30.7%, KJ shot 31% last year and is at 28% this year with the second most attempts on the team. His last 5 games he is 3-15 from deep. KJ and Morman both don't shoot well from outside and both turn ball over. If neither can shoot from deep, I would give Morman more minutes and reduce KJ's. Morman can drive to the lane and get to the line. He already has 10 more FT attempts than KJ in half of the playing time.KJ is also foul prone, he has 5 games of 3 fouls all while averaging 20 mins a game.

KJ, sigh. You're right. He'd better find a niche doing something well (def. specialist, etc) or he won't see the floor next year with what's coming in.

Agreed about Ellis - maybe he could be a little more selective in what shot he tries to block? Don't want to take away his aggressiveness though. Maybe Mick is telling him to do the Patrick Ewing vs. UNC in the championship game thing - goal tends are fine because it sets a tone of intimidation around the rim.

An elderly and quite wealthy man said, "Just tell me the bad things, the good news will take care of itself."

It's an adage that is so engrained in me that it's nearly reflexive. What's the point in diddle-daddling on the things you do right? Where can I improve?

In the workplace, it's called constructive criticism.

Your ability to handle "constructive criticism" is very indicative as to whether you will climb into the top-1% in your chosen profession.

I think Mick is in the top-10% of coaches. He's still young, by coaching standards. Why should we assume that he is more polished than Coach K., Pitino, or Boeheim? These coaches have decades more experience.

If the moderators want to turn this message board into a "Rah Rah" site, it's their choice. I'm not interested in that conversation. I want to discuss how Cincinnati, as a program, can be on the same level as Kansas. I think it's quite feasible in a top-30 metropolitan region without a professional basketball franchise.

I'm not criticizing the moderators. I'm sure these guys have jobs or other businesses, and this site is more or less a hobby. Frankly, if they wanted to maximize revenue, they would welcome the uninformed, because intelligent readers are less inclined to click on the AdSense displays.

I agree but there are way to many bashes here with an agenda. I think that is very evident. Even after great win last night there is negativity. If those 2 other guys were here they would probably say NC State really wasn't that good that's why we won. ie; San Diego State game.

There's a difference between critiquing the team and being a negative Nancy all the time. I'll critique as much as anyone at times but I don't spin it as we have the worst coach and the worst players like some do. Bottom line for me and why I've been thinking about no longer posting is the board is no longer enjoyable to read. I put my money and time into the program and come on this site to discuss things because I'm a fan. I enjoy differing perspectives. When those perspectives come across to me that they appear to come from people not supportive of the program then that is where I get turned off. The whole tone of this board has changed in my opinion since very late last season. When I feel I have to defend the Bearcats to their own fans then that is where I no longer want to be part of the discussion. That is how I have felt on here lately. I really wonder why some on here follow the team or come on here to post if they really are that negative of the coach and the players.

People I understand the emotion following a game. A loss seems to bring out those with an agenda in force. My suggestion? Just enjoy your Bearcats, don't be so thin skinned and let's cheer this young team on to better things.

I read almost every local board and there is negativity on each. Overall we have a good group. I don't mind opinions even the negative ones. I do mind an agenda. Most don't have one, most over react to a win and a loss. That's what sports elicit from a fan base. Don't let it get to you.

Thank you all for your contribution and posts. Let me encourage you to keep posting and supporting the team on here and else where. Let's move on to the next game and and get another win

I like to think of this place as less of an archival record of everything bearcat happenings, and more as an online sports bar. Posts are much easier to digest in that regard, and how many people are going to pile on the praise over a few beers at a table? No, a pain point is going to come up and it is going to be debated until everyone goes home for the night, only nobody really "goes home" from here.

If you get too riled up the bouncer may show you the door is all, haha. That's why I was kind of miffed at an earlier comment saying threads should be closed during games. That'd be like the owner of my bar telling everyone to shut up between commercials and it just wouldn't have a nice atmosphere anymore.

I just got home from work, I was unable to watch it live but will be watching it shortly! To say I am ecstatic would be an understatement. Just from looking at the box score it looks like a lot of guys contributed. I can't believe we put up 76 points on them, on the road!! I bet Gary Clark is loving that. His twitter was getting blown up by NC people.

Did you finally break down and get a Twitter???

Good stuff.

I agree. I don't get why people feel they have to leave the site. Either ignore a post you think is ridiculous, or explain why you disagree. Everyone is so ready to either fire off some insults and shut the conversation down or announce they're leaving the board...it's a little much.

I have quit reading the in game thread for that very reason. When watching the game either in person or on TV I have many emotional outputs :) and I am glad they are not trapped in cyberspace forever.

I think this is an excellent analogy. LOL
