Im sorry. I argue with some of my friends about this all the time but no WAY New Mexico should be #8 in the country.

Same with BYU being #12 or whatever.

I know I am going to sound like "SEC Guy" here but it is true. Does anyone believe New Mexico could be .500 in the Big East? Does anyone think that UConn would run through the MWC?

These teams might have to play a power conference team 3 times a year and it is their biggest game of the year and then they pound their chests for about it.

Some Mid-Majors schedule tough (Gonzago and Xavier come to mind) but come on.

These teams have great records but dont play anybody. If they do it is maybe twice a year which anyone can gear up for that.

just my rant.

I don't think there's any doubt NM could be .500 (probably much better) in the BE. Have you actually seen them play?

Point is they are New Mexico. They don't have the athletes or size. Look at what they have done.

They beat Texas AM by 3 and Dayton by 2 and beat a bunch of scrubs. They have zero quality wins and losses I would consider bad but since they are mid majors they are considered acceptable.

No thanks.

It is like when a mid major beats like Baylor or Virginia or Seton Hall it turn into a big deal for them but when another major does that it is expected.

Have you actually watched them play? Mid-Major teams like them do well in the tourney all the time, they're a sweet 16 team. I doubt NM is really the 8th ranked team in the country, but much like UC football you have to keep moving them up if they keep beating everyone on the schedule. Winning in Provo over a very good BYU team is not easy to do.

If they are a 3 seed I would LOVE to see them is my point.

I have not watched them play. I know I seem like the SEC jerk who says UC wouldn't be .500 in the league.

I am a hypocrite here without question.:D

At least you admit it! :D

Lunardi actually has them as a 2 seed right now. If they make it in as a 2 seed they could possibly be an Elite 8 team.

Hubert Davis of ESPN says the same about WVU, no point guard, no offense, over rated. How WVU remains in the top 10 is beyond me, they have lost 3 out of the last 6 and UC would have beat them on Saturday if the refs had called a fair game.

If the bracket would look the same as it does on lunardi's bracketology today--NM is in the elite 8 for sure.

You on drugs? WHY? They havent beat anyone?

MidMajor fans got to stick together huh? I dont get it. Is there 2 point win over Dayton suppose to ensure me this? Uconn would be a 6 point favorite verse them.

Right. Just go ahead and pull the "SEC" debate because you have not seen them once this year. As coolcat(i think) pointed out-this team is legit. Though I think a lot of the nation agrees with you and will have them out in second round-much like they had WVU beating UD last year in the first round(I had UD).

Who-and I want you to be serious here- would beat them before the elite 8(in lunardis bracket now). I think Baylor beats WVU and NM beats baylor in sweet 16.

I used to agree with your thinking on NM until I watched that BYU game. If they go into the tourney and play like that again, I will take them over about anyone. BYU was making difficult shots all game and NM still went on the road and beat the other top team in their league with the title on the line. I wouldn't want any part of them right now.

I personally think their resume over the whole year should land them a 3 or 4 seed not a 2 seed. I think they will be a very good 3 or 4 seed though.

Of coarse you think that Baylor a team I know you have seen look good once this year would beat WVU. Hilarious.

I gaurentee you EVERYONE wants to be in a bracket where their 2 seed is New Mexico.

X is better than mid majors but why do their fans always have to back them up so hard? I dont get the brotherhood they have.

Yes, I figure your a X fan but you will say no. I figure that because I know if the board is wondering.

Wins over BYU and whoever else is not going to prepare you for the big time is all I am saying. At least schools like Gonzaga and Xavier recognize this and they schedule very strong OOC.

I know making the tournament is the first step, then anyone can get hot and make a run, but I would LOVE to see New Mexico in my region. Looking at their schedule and roster, nothing on it scares me, 2 players at 6-8. If they run into a taller team and don't shoot well, they are done. I hate agreeing with the canuck...for what its worth.

Baylor:

RPI: 11 SOS: 23

6 top 50 RPI wins, add a 6 point loss to Kansas(favorite to win the NC-either them or Syracuse) 2 point loss to KSTATE,(possibly 2 1 seeds...more then likely a 1 and a 2 though) and they beat Texas (granted that’s not looking as impressive but still a top 25 team) That seems like a pretty solid team-competing with the best in the nation...heck 9 points away from beating two top 5 teams.

Also Baylor is a lengthy team thats pretty solid on D and have some very good shooters. I think there D can give WVU fits, especially because WV doesnt have a good offense. All these reason are why I think Baylor could beat WV in the tournament and I don’t think its as crazy as you seem to think it could happen. Heck I thought I saw you say you thought WVU was overrated on this board before?

Keep in mind--I said the same thing last year about Dayton-thinking there D and athleticism could give WVU fits. I picked UD in all my brackets and had many people criticize me(prolly you included) then watched Dayton beat WVU come tournament time

I am not debating Baylor. I think they are a good team.
