Although the Bearcats are in mid season, it is hard not to think about next season. They will be losing their two primary big men, Ellis and Deberry. What direction do you think UC will go with replacing them? neither of their current 2016 recruits are big men. With a lot of returning talent, and the addition of Cumberland will give the cats a solid back court. Clark will be a solid forward, but what are they going to do for the center position? Finding "starter quality" JUCO centers will not be an easy task, so who will be the starting center on the 2016 squad?

NC State transfer Kyle Washington will play 30 minutes a night. Freshman recruit Nysier Brooks and Quadri will back him up. Washington is 6'9" and 235 pounds with the ability to score at a high rate from 17 feet and in. Brooks is 6'10" and 240 pounds and starts at center for one of the most talented prep school programs in the country. That is the direction they will go...

I did completely forget about Washington. Hopefully Quadri can continue to develop and be able to go out there and give quality minutes for the team.

Washington's offense will be a big improvement. Those little open 8-10 footers Ellis has a hard time making will go in with Kyle shooting them. He has a nice face up game and attacks the rim. We will enjoy watching him play. He will really help open the floor. Him and Clark will be dangerous.

I would say Brooks is a center. He is listed on 247 at 6'9 200 but Chad just listed him as 6'10 240. So he has size if Chad is more current than 247 (which he probably is). So, at that he is already bigger than Ellis. After watching some of the videos posted on here about Brooks, he is the defensive player we've always seen. I would say he gets most of his points off of offensive rebounds and easy dunks/ layups. Not too much different than Ellis.

Quadri is definitely making the strides during this season and it's easy to see. He's much more patient on offense and doesn't try to create too much with his dribble anymore. I think with the rest of the season and another offseason, he will become a valuable back up to Gary.

Washington will come in and start at the 5. Don't forget about Tre Scott, no one has mentioned him yet. He's currently redshirted.

yes I think we are set for the next two seasons. Washington looks better than anyone we currently have on the team. Washington, Brooks, Moore, Clark, Scott

I hope Washington is as advertised. Sight unseen, I'd have to take Ellis and Clark over him. But hopefully he's in a better situation here and the year spent in the program will pay off.

Kyle washington at the 5
Nyser brooks backing him up with Quadri
Clark at the 4
with tre scott and quadri backing him

Next year lineup could be:
Caupain Sr
KJ Sr (KJ starting is purely because of being a senior, but maybe more valuable off the bench)
Evans So
Clark JR
Washington JR

Bench:
Cumberland Fr (plays 2 and 3)
Jenifer So (runs the point)
Quadri JR (plays the 4 and 5)
Brooks Fresh (plays 4 and 5)
Tre Scott Fresh (plays the 4)
Tobbler (keeps the bench warm)

We wont be nearly as deep or as good down low next year. But we will have 2 legit scorers with cumberland and evans.

Yeah I'm not going to go over board on Washington. His eFG% and TS% are nowhere near what Ellis puts up, his offensive rebound % is half what Ellis puts up, he's not as good of a defensive rebounder.

He really loves to shoot a lot too. He shot 24.5% of the teams shots when he was on the floor last year, that's a higher % than everybody but Cobb. And his ORtg was only 101.6. The only player lower than that on this roster is Quadri Moore...

A very high-level booster told me at the game last night that Washington will be an upgrade over what we have this year. Both attitude and skill will be better.

I dont see Brooks playing any 4 next year. If for whatever reason they decide to play washinton and brooks at the same time(probably less than weve seen Deberry and Ellis at the same time) Washington would play the 4. But I dont see that scenario happening.

Im also curious to know if scott projects to get any minutes at the 3 spot

Probably because Washington shoots the mid range and 3 pt shots. Ellis is all put backs and dunks and around the hoop stuff. I don't know about defense and rebounding but I'm sure that's going to have to get better. He looks athletic as hell so I'm not sure why he wouldn't be able to.

There is a video of him posted on the Brooks recruiting page which is all I needed to see.

I watched the video and he looked very impressive. However I never get my hopes up too high just from watching players dunk in high school games. Jermaine Lawrence was completely dominant in high school, and is currently not even playing college basketball. Hopefully Brooks can carry his talents to the next level.

as a guy who likes offense you are going to love Washington. I have been told he is a beast at practice.

Lawrence never came close to doing what Washington already has done at the D-1 level. Apples and oranges.

All highlight videos look impressive.

I think he is going to be a good player and will help us next year. But the truth is he lost his job at north carolina state and transferred out. And the stats and the eye test show the guy looooooooves shooting the basketball. And his shot is weird looking, and I don't think he always takes good shots.

And I'm not sold on him being a good shooter either. I don't think anybody would call Clark a good perimeter shooter, but he's 5-8 from 3 this year, so Washingtons 7-13 from 3 last year doesn't really move me one way or the other.

I was talking about the video of Washington which was when he was in college
