This gets brought up a lot so I thought it would be nice to have one thread for it. Everyone knows we have one too many players and someone's gotta go, but no one knows who it is. Who's it gonna be?

Pretty sure there's already a thread about this, but it seems to have disappeared.

I think the obvious thing would be for Gaines or Nyarsuk to transfer. However, that would leave us with only two true post players...so who else? Lotta rumors that Mormon wont qualify, but i have seen nothing to suggest said rumors hold any weight. Guyn or Sanders? Highly doubtful either would leave, especially without a proven point. Honestly, i think one of the bigs will leave to be closer to home, get more Pt, or something else and we will just have to put Jackson down low more often.

My guess (no inside info at all) is that Mick has a plan "A" and plan "B". Plan "A" would be if a recruit doesn't qualify and goes the prep route, which takes care of the problem. If not, Plan "B" is being upfront with a player or two and letting them know their opportunity for minutes is small and they might benefit from a fresh start elsewhere. Maybe Guyn or Gaines in the plan "B" scenario.

I would like Nyarsuk to leave because it is his last year and I really can't see him contributing that much next season unless he makes vast improvements. That said, I can't see him leaving because it is his senior year. Gaines is the popular pick, but this season made me believe he can be a solid role player his senior year.

Regardless, as it has been stated a million times, Mick already knows what his team will be in the fall.

I don't think itd be Guyn, the kid got solid minutes this year, played good D, showed flashes of scoring, and was the Backup Point Guard to a player who wont be here next year. I truly believe Sanders and Guyn are here to stay.

Most people seem to want Gaines or Nyarsuk to leave. I
know they're not great, but I would be extremely worried about having only one center that has any college experience. Anyone think its possible that Morman, Caupain, or KJ get asked to go to Prep school for a year?

Only downside is that you risk losing them at that point. That opens the recruitment process back up until they sign again.

Can't argue with your reasoning. I was looking at the number of guys that could potentially play point, JDIII, Johnson, and Caupain. Keeping a guy around with experience wouldn't hurt though.

No way that Guyn is part of any such plan. He's a solid player and only a sophomore. He plays tough defense and I've seen enough glimpses of offense in him to think that he could become a solid contributor there as well. There are plenty I would cast aside before I would ever get down to him. I'm not a Guyn lover, but he's certainly not that bad.

Another possibility is that KJ pays his own way for at least the first year. He already pays tuition at Summit

I'm not sure where this "Johnson's family is already paying for an expensive high school so they wouldn't mind paying for college if asked" idea is coming from, but it's strange to the point of ridiculous.

If someone were to leave I cannot see how it can't be Sanders, with Lawrence,Shaquille, and Rubles and other incoming freshmen we are set at the wing. And with the need of having bigs I just don't see how any one of those guys would be made to leave. I wish we could keep them all.

Don't you know that all rich people forego scholarships and love paying full tuition for college? ;)

This is my thinking too.

PG options: Guyn, Caupain, maybe JDIII
SG options: Kilpatrick. JDIII. Sanders?, KJ, Mormon
SF: Thomas, Rubles, Lawrence, Sanders
PF: JJ, Thomas, Rubles, Lawrence
C: JJ, Nyarsuk, Gaines, Strickland

You know Kilpatrick is going to play 25-35 mpg at SG.
Only a couple of guys are qualified to play PG.
IF Nyarsuk and Gaines don't improve enough to play Center, than JJ plays an undersized Center.
Rubles won't suddenly not getting any playing time after all he got this year.
Thomas emerged as another scoring threat and you know he's going to play.
Lawrence is the highly regarded and most think he'll play too.

Even though he's seen playing time, I think Sanders is the odd man out.

And for me, Sanders isn't what I thought he'd be. He's not very athletic. Doesn't play great D or rebound that well. He's kind of a one-trick pony.

Have to admit he hasn't developed as I had hoped either. There are times I see glimpses of who I thought he'd be but then he never follows up. I think this is partially due to him being asked to fill a role outside of the strength of his game. However, you have to find ways to contribute when you're on the floor and he has to own the fact that he hasn't been able to do that consistently.

I'd be hard pressed to believe if Mick asks someone to leave it would be anyone other than Gaines. Sanders hasn't progressed as far as we had hoped based on his promise coming out of high school, but he still has talent and can be a solid role player. He has good basketball IQ, which is reason enough to keep him based on the lack of that on our team. He knows how to position himself on the court and thus is a good rebounder. He also knows how to use his body when shooting inside, something only SK and maybe Cash has shown. With more time and an increased role in the offense I still think he can produce. Most mid-level players don't really blossom until after their sophomore year. In my opinion if you ask someone to leave it would be the least talented player and that is Gaines in my opinion, maybe Nyarsuk. I don't see Mick getting rid of a 7-2 guy. Maybe he should throw a ball to both of them and whoever catches one first he should keep. I joke, but honestly they both have stones for hands and subsequently are worthless on offense. Nyarsuk did at least show the ability to flush some alley-oops early in the year. I know most are saying we'd be thin on bigs if one would go, but honestly if they bring nothing to the table what's the difference?

Have to believe its Gaines. Mick made it very clear that he wasn't happy with his progress at one of his last shows. I think he said he needs to decide if he is going to put in the effort to get better. He also mentioned he was very close to graduation. If Mormon qualifys Gaines is gone in my opinion.

Sanders? You mean the only reserve besides Shaq who can score? They can always redshirt there or have a big leave. I like Morman, but I doubt he will qualify, and if he does, I think KJ could go prep, he is another combo guard, we have tons of those. I think something financially has already been worked out so that we can have all of them, and if Morman doesn't qualify, it solves the problem.
