No Need for Cincy, UConn to beg

This article has one very big overlook...FOOTBALL!!! It's great that basketball will be fine, but football is what makes money and helps other sports get better with that money. The money it would make in a big 5 conference completely diminshes the fact that basketball will be fine.

I agree David...definitely ignorant not to even mention, let alone consider football...hell, it was football and its revenue that got the NCAA in this mess...kinda surprised by the omission considering the writer...

The writer is ESPN's senior college basketball writer. Basketball was the only perspective he was going to care about. No doubt football is a huge piece of the puzzle. Just felt good to read something positive about this whole realignment thing.

I can agree to that, but while it's frustrating our basketball league went down I don't think anyone's really thinking it's doom and gloom for the program. And honestly the whole notion of "no need to beg", which is the headline of his article, kind of makes me think he's assuming UC and UConn were begging to get into the ACC for basketball purposes. They were begging for football purposes plain and simple.

I know football makes the money, but I have little interest in it. The only season I paid attention to UC football was when Brian Kelly was coaching and Tony Pike and Mardy Gilyard took us to the Orange Bowl. That will be the high point of UC football for eternity. They'll never match that again, and they'll never be mentioned with the big boy teams of the SEC, B12 or B10. They may be good, but never that good again. And if they were, the media wouldn't give much recognition anyway.

I'm a basketball fan and I'm getting used to this new conference. It won't be so bad.
