Butler has a good basketball culture. They made 2 Sweet 16's between '99 and '07 (more than Cincinnati).

Remember their best player got hurt before the season...

I guess it is too early to say Butler will be run of the mill. They do have a good tradition. Indiana is a great basketball state. Will be interesting to see if they can win in a tougher league like the new Big East. In theory that should help recruiting. Weren't they Horizon all those years and then went to A-10 for one year?

As far as their best player being hurt, I don't really follow them but there are a handful on here who seem to think our best player transferred to Ball State this year, so...

There are a lot of Big East teams that are question marks going forward. I think they will be okay, probably not to the back-to-back Championship level (unrealistic anyways)...

To what you said...
Brandon Miller walked into a no-win situation. John Wooden would have had a difficult time following in Brad Stevens’ footsteps.

But now, with Friday’s news that the Butler Bulldogs' leading returning scorer Roosevelt Jones is done for the season with torn ligaments in his wrist, Miller’s job just got easier.

The pressure is off. Given the current state of Butler's roster, there are no expectations for the Bulldogs in Miller's rookie campaign. None.

The problem in my opinion with a mid major school is to sustain success you can't miss a beat. Maybe one down year, but you string a few together and/or make the wrong coaching hire (as they can tend to be revolving doors when you achieve success) and it is harder to rebound than a major program with name recognition. Butler certainly played themselves above the mid-major level of success and had a great coach coupled with a down period for Indiana where if I remember correctly they were able to snag some of their recruits. Maybe Butler did enough good to be the next Gonzaga that kind of lifted themselves past the mid-major level. I thought maybe X had to, but being a local team I can't really guage how they are looked at nationally. I will say with the way the new Big East is made up, they should no longer be mid-majors. There are enough names and history and recent success in that conference to elevate most programs. I think Georgetown and maybe Marquette were the only ones in worst shape when that conference formed. While most schools came from the old Big East they weren't big time winners and perenniel top teams. Only Georgetown fit that mold and maybe Marquette. Villanova always seemed middle of the pack to me and could all of a sudden contend for a title (which they won this year). St. Johns/Seton Hall/etc. of the old Big East teams had a chance to move from bottom half to more successful with lesser competiton. X/Butler/Chreighton all moved up from lower conferences. I was surprised at how Georgetown stunk it up this year and Marquette. Creighton was good because they had McDermott. They've had some good years in the past but I think it'd be a stretch to think they will have years like this past one often if ever again. Villanova used to always run through the non-conference and be highly touted and then falter in the Big East. I wondered if they were actually better this year than past years or if they were just winning because their conference became lesser competition. I'm rambling I guess. I really want the new Big East to fail because I hate X and I hate that we're not in it anymore, but the conference is built to be a good conference.

Cincinnati is one of the elite programs with Adidas while Nike treated UC like a 2nd class citizen. Another wildly inaccurate post...
First of all, UC was sponsored by Jordan, yes I know Jordan is a part of Nike. Second, how were we treated like 2nd class citizens?

Pathetic football uniform offerings, very limited fan apparel, crappy quality as well. Cincinnati is seen as one of the top adidas (along with Michigan, Louisville and Tennessee). Nike has many more elite programs that cater to much more often....

I see where your coming from. Neither brand is better than the other it's just my personal opinion

Christon leaving really has to sting for Xavier fans. He was by far their best player. They would have been a very good team next year with him; now I think they are likely a bubble team again.

If you are bored, there is a thread on the X boards about the shootout and they are up in arms that it may not happen next year. Thread is already 23 pages long.

There isn't a level of boredom on this earth that would lead me to perusing that dreck.
