Pitt

Well, Uc is a 6.5 point dog, so let's not get panicked if they lose a tight game. Get blown out, and that's another story

Pitt has a great defense and so do we. Offense will be tough to come by but uc will win

Based on what? You might be right, but defense was Pitt's downfall last year and it was pretty awful. This year, of course their statistics look a little better against the early season schedule. It might be be a great defense, but I'll have to see it first.

Anyone else want to see Shaq get more minutes? I really feel like he can add a lot to our offense. He looked great against New Mexico.

Too soon to make that decision IMO. NM was his breakout game I guess, but it's yet to be seen if we can count on that from him. I'm not really sure where the minutes come from anyway unless they scrap the idea of playing him/Rubles together and just rotate him in for both wing players at different times.

NM hurt us with some second chance points Thursday. With the rebounders we have and our (supposedly) fast paced offense, this really should not happen. If people crash the boards hard enough to outrebound us with Mbodj/Jackson in there, we should be punishing them for not getting back.

Folks it is really simple. We need to man up in the paint and finish at the rim! What happened to the alley oops and the dunks. No reason our trees should not be finishing in the paint. We have to find offense in the paint or this is going to be an up and down season for us. At least pretend to be working it into the paint.

6.5 points? I'll take that action
Im sure if you google well enough, you can find a site to wager.

Im kinda torn on the line. Intuitively I thought it should be Pitt -4 but, Sagarin had it around -7 and kpom close to -9 the last I checked.

Really? Interesting ... I'm not positive at all UC will win this thing, but I would certainly be surprised if it started getting towards double digits.

Completely agree with your main point about finishing, but I don't think our offense needs or should be working it into the paint. The big guys are getting enough touches and if they were finishing they would be contributing points. The focus needs to stay with creating space for dribble penetration with our roster. We don't have any big guys worth spending a lot of possessions trying to feed the ball to.

Well part of that is 4 points of hca for Pitt. Really though, no one "knows" how good Pitt is at all right now. Kpom has them like 5th in the country, but that system also does not cap margin of victory. However throughout cbbs past 10 or so years it's probably been the best free prediction and rankings model out there. But the one
type of team it trends to overrate is a slow paced, highly efficient offensive team, typically Wisconsin. Pitt, is fairly similar stylistically, and given they haven't played a single team in the kpom top 100 yet, there is a decent chance Pitt is overrated in his rankings. UC and their "weak" schedule at least has played 5 top 100 kpom teams, going 4-1 with only a 1 point loss.

Agreed. Just have to keep the defense honest by getting guys touches in the paint and finishing on a consistent basis. Right now they can play out on the perimeter without fear knowing if they can get back down low in time, we will miss the bunny 4 out of 5 times.

JJ needs to stop kidding himself and realize he is not part of the "three amigos". Quit slowly dribbling the ball through your legs out in the 3 point line. I want him swinging along the baseline as a constant threat for cuts, oops, and quick put backs with a flash to the elbow thrown in.

Lol at Kilpatrick going pro after this season.

Dude can't make a 3 point shot from NBA range. Dude is erratic. Dude forgets to box out from time to time. Oh yeah, and his handles are suspect.

Bob Knight is 100% correct in saying that we NEED an inside presence that's capable of scoring. Every time Mbodj or Nyarsuk grabs the ball underneath, they try to lay the ball into the basket, as opposed to dunking it. It seems that they're either taught, or it's intuitive for them, to bring the ball below their waists, as opposed to keeping the ball high and going right back up. An inside presence (and the ability to go inside-out) would free up our guards for open shots; otherwise, any good defense (see: Pitt) will focus on Kilpatrick, Wright, and Parker (and subsequently force poor FG%). Also, what happened to Jackson's blossoming low-post game from last season? He's not a ball handler. He needs to park his butt on the block.
