Post Game Reflection

Help Support BearcatTalk:

It's pretty tough to say this season wasn't a disappointment after losing in the first round to Harvard because of the same deficiencies that UC has had for several years.

Great regular season, better than expected. But it doesn't mean nearly as much if you lose in your first game.

Very disappointing. But this team looks to be good in 2 years

So you have to be a member of the almighty bearcattalk to be a super fan? If being a super fan is related to any part of your miserable personality, I'm all set. It's obvious non-basketball players like yourself who made me leery of joining and getting sucked into debates with PMS'ing old has beens.

Answer the question. you think UC would be Co-champs of the league they played in the last year? You big time balla you, lol.

Actually I consider it relatively possible. Besides Cuse who struggled in many games, it was a pretty down year for most "big east" teams sans maybe an overrated Nova team.

Nice "big time balla, lol" comment...very pre teen girl text message talk of you. Those who could never play, think they can coach.

Can I see the sos numbers of each of those years? Exp, ooc sos?

I will give you SOS. OOC SOS didn't matter the first two seasons since we were in the BE, but I will give you it for this season since we were in the AAC. Old BE>B12 in basketball, anyone with 2 eyes could tell you that.

This season OOC SOS
Coach A:213
Coach B: 95

Overall SOS
Coach A
This year:50
Last year:55
2 years ago:3

Coach B
This year: 69
Last year: 27
2 years ago:83

When I look at these numbers, you know what I think-it means absolutely nothing. If you want to argue about SOS from 2 years ago, so be it. These last two years, coach B has the better average SOS and better average non-conference SOS. I don't think either coach has a definitive edge in this category, so why don't we go back to record: 49-49 vs. 75-30, pick one please.

I'm still new here but wow, you guys SUCK at counter-trolling. Playing right into their hands, what's up with that? Are you really trying to justify your position to someone whose only goal is to bait your position? No wonder they keep coming back! It's too easy to get a rise!

How can I counter troll you so you don't come back?

These guys just don't like Mick's personality, demeanor, etc...

I do agree that at times he has a massive inferiority complex and let's it out in the media which comes off as whining. I hope as he matures as a coach (still one of the younger coaches in major cbb) that will stop.

Yes, he does do that. I think he does it partially on purpose to get his team fired up, as we play better when we think we are the underdogs. It can sound like whining and it does get old sometimes, but it can have a purpose, just depends on the situation,

Rant

It has been mentioned by many in this post. I definitely enjoyed watching this team and everything that happened. There are some future stars in caupain and hopefully lawrence.
The one thing I wish would change is definitely the offense I understand Cronin has a plan in mind by slowing the ball down and grinding out the game, but his plan can always be foiled against a good shooting and passing teams. ex. smu, last year creighton, harvard. I think cronin's style might be causing the players to be timid on offense since theres not a set plan, the constant benching and yelling without reinforcemnt may have a negative effect on some of the players.
Looking at the way the tournament was seeded this year, it seemed focused on matching up styles of play, and if its a sign of things to come we will most likely be matched up against a good shooting team every year because they dont favor our style of bball and would rather see us get knocked out early. It sounds simple but I think we need an offensive assistant coach. I don't see anything wrong with a fluid offense that can muck it up on d. Plus offense puts people in the seats which generates more revenue. Unless that happens we will see the same fate and basically be a mid major team.
Rant: Honestly if cronin recruits another player like Rubles again I will stop watching the games. I've never seen another player be so detrimental to a team while playing the amount of minutes he did. I understand he was good for rebounding but holy s!@t I couldn't help but yell "get the ball out of your hands" when he touched it.

He can do all that stuff behind closed doors. As I've stated many times before, I like Mick and glad he is the coach here, but he needs to end the whining. I actually think he's gotten better at it, but it's still over the top.

I was cringing every time he was mentioning that SK was the POY of the conference after it was announced that Napier won. Then he started on that "heroes are made in March" stuff and followed it up by laying duds in the Conference tournament and NCAA tournament. Recall a few years ago he called out Lunardi for not considering UC a bubble team and they proceeded to lose out for the season.

they missed 16 lay ups in loss to Harvard. His offense got them good shots. Accountability is a good thing. Winning puts people in seats. If you decide to leave I'm sure we will carry on. Yes the committee sits in the room and matches up styles. LOL! Rubles was a bad recruit! You should quit watching you know very little about the sport.

Read my mind perfect NTS. At that point I was like stop making those comments and prove it on the court. As I suspected they fell short and those words didn't mean squat. It was trickled down to the seniors bc they were doing the same thing. JJ and SK were talking a good game but they never translated that on the court the final 3-4 games.

Also, I thought it was pretty disrespectful Cronin kept calling SK POY of the conference after Napier won the award. Regardless how I feel about SK not getting it you shouldn't make those comments after the awards been given out.

A tall 3? You got to be kidding. Lawrence isn't even close to a 3 and I'm not sure what he does that would lead you to believe that. I get the fact that he is a face up 4, but he doesn't have very good ball skills and his range, at least right now, is limited to about 10 feet (and he isn't even hitting those).

http://www.downthedrive.com/2014/5/9/5701628/a-different-take-on-the-jermaine-lawrence-transfer

It was my view on him from what I saw in him and his size. And now this as well...

"The nub of the issue would appear to be about the position that Lawrence was playing for the Bearcats. In his heart of hearts it seems that Lawrence views himself as a small forward, and wants to play as a small forward. The staff sees him as a power forward and wants him to develop in that direction. It would appear that Jermaine is convinced that he is the next Kevin Durant, and will do his best to go somewhere that will let him try to be the next KD. That's ultimately what this is about."

That article supports my opinion. He may think he is a 3, but he isn't, and apparently the coaching staff doesn't think so either. He possesses zero traits that a successful 3 has.

So what you are saying is you know what position Lawrence is better than himself? The coaching staff used him to their own needs. If Strickland was elligible I think it would have been a different scenario. IF he does make it to the NBA he is a large 3, not 4
