Iglesias will not start tonight as scheduled the Reds called up Jon Moscot from AAA to make his ML debut. Front office is not disclosing why this occurred but my guess is a trade is brewing involving Cueto/Leake and they pushed Iglesias start back to cover the spot in the rotation.

In that scenario why wouldn't they just scratch Moscott from his AAA start and hold him back for the spot that would be opening?

I'd take nothing less than Velasquez, McCullers and tucker for cueto and a minor league position player.

You realize he is a rental right?

Then again you were the one who promised us the deal between the Reds and Dodgers from a year or two ago that never happened...

• The Reds are currently reluctant to sell any pieces according to rivals who have reached out to the team. That may simply be due to the fact that the team is set to host the All-Star game this year and doesn’t want to begin a potential fire sale before that game. However, other execs have indicated to Heyman that owner Bob Castellini prefers to see how his big-money investments in Joey Votto and others will play out rather than commencing a rebuilding effort.

To me this screams one of two things.

1. Posturing.

2. Big Bob is as big of a dunce as most Reds fans fear.

I tend to lean towards the latter. It's fairly ironic that the guy who promised championship baseball would be coming to Cincinnati is the one who will be responsible for what i think will ultimately be a very long next 5-10 years.

Hovering at 5-10 games below .500 for the next month+ is the worst case scenario imo. It is just delaying the inevitable. I get that they made those big investments in Votto, Phillips, Bailey etc, but they're stuck with those deals long term regardless of how this season plays out. And no one really believes they have any kind of chance, even if they were to get hot before the break. Might as well start trying to find the guys you want to help in the next 3-5 years. I think the fans would have an easier time swallowing that pill as well. So I don't buy wanting fan support for the All-Star festivities as a legitimate hold-up to start making deals (I can only buy into keeping Cueto for that reason).

(Also, that link says the Astros won't trade McCullers.)

@ctrent
The Devin Mesoraco left field experiment has just begun. He’s out there with Hatcher & Riggleman #Reds

^I'm glad they're trying this.

11. Cincinnati Reds
Tyler Stephenson, C, Kennesaw Mountain HS (Kennesaw, Ga.)
Hometown players Benintendi (a Cincinnati high school product) and Happ would be enticing, though the Reds may not be able to pass on Stephenson's ceiling. They did well with the most recent prep catcher they took in the first round, Devin Mesoraco. If Tucker somehow fell to No. 11, he'd be the choice. If this happens they could be looking for more then a experiment.

Iglesias was scratched due to an oblique strain.

I could not disagree more. Not that they are trying Mes out at a secondary position, I've been saying that since two years ago when it became clear his bat warrants him being an every day player.

The timing to me is dumb and the logic is flawed. IMO they are doing this because they haven't given up on this year yet.

I'm of the opinion that he should have the surgery and get it over with. I know a doctor said he could be back by next year even if they wait. But why risk it?

Get him the surgery and when he is healthy in 4 months from now have him start working on LF.

To me it is classic Reds and more specifically classic Banana Bob.

Yes very true. I agree they should've just done the surgery. Long term though, I like the LF move.

After his surgery this off-season he should be back to normal to catch next year whatever the manager thinks he should catch

Makes me nervous. In the future I would like him to platoon in LF vs LHP if possible. His bat could be in the lineup more and he could still catch 100 games.

Anybody that plays at the catcher position and has an above average bat will be moved assuming they can play another position to prolong their careers. The Reds would be dumb to move forward without at least trying him at another position. I get it that he's a good defensive catcher and that's great, but platoon him to give his knees and body a break. Mesoraco has been injured probably 50% of the time he's been in the majors. Age will not help that get better. They need to get him healthy and get him to another position if it is feasible. Usually 1st base or 3rd base is the position catchers move. I think the Reds would be wise to try him in left and at third and try Frazier in left as well. Especially late in the year when they finally realize they aren't going to contend. I have to imagine by August 1st the Reds will be over 20 games out and maybe the light bulb will come by then. With all that said the Reds have mishandled this injury all along and that is starting to become a pattern with them.

Here's the quote from Brian price in the article

"The plan, even if Mesoraco does work out in the outfield, is to have him catching long-term, Price said. This would not be a permanent move."
