Also add that I love KW. What a great interview. That dude is great to listen to.
calm down if u didnt notice he completely shut down the players he was defending got a ton deflections and was in middle multiple turnovers that led to fast break points. sometimes as fans i think we worry too much about offense and dont realize everything else hes doing. those who say his defense is not good enough to defend keeping him out there i wonder what the hell they are watching. theres a reason we were able to completely shut down the other teams best guard last year in multiple games and the reason was kevin johnson.
i think people need to calm down when it comes to KJ including myself its almost ridiculous at this point. i just wonder what people are watching that they cant see the guy is an elite defender that helps our team in so many ways. they only see the missed three or maybe lazy pass every now and then.
its almost like us uc fans me included have to have a player we blame everything on and get mad if he plays so that the young guy who cant guard a lick that has a better jumper can play more.
I'll be pissed if KJ gets more than 15 minutes. It does nothing.
He got 35. LOL. This dude wouldn't see the floor much at Lehigh let we play him this much. Time to start moving on.

I agree....time to move on. He's going to play quite a bit and probably start whether we like it or not.
I just hope we can eat into his minutes specifically with Cumberland by mid season.
No sense in bitching every game about it anymore. He will probably play 20 plus minutes either way.
He's extremely good. I just hope he sticks around for a couple years...as well as Evans. These guys are 2 of the best 3 players in Cronin's tenure. Between this year and next (if we keep them) we need to capitalize. Having two nice seasons in a row with at least one really good one leading into a new arena is about all the recruiting help we can get.
Fact is all of our guards not name Evans need to improve. Continually singling out KJ is laughable. All certainly need to shoot better and guard better. All need to be more consistent. For a nine minute stretch lastnight we looked like a high school team playing against the Cavs. Cumberland and JJ didn't make a shot or have one defection. KJ and TC were better but a far cry from what we need to get were we want to go. I know this is a opinion and discussion site but trying to break down who should get these minutes and who should get those minutes is really not very practicle because it changes with every game. We also have little access to the game plan or how the game is unfolding in the present. Foul trouble, injury and effectiveness against opposition all play a part in how game is managed. Let's hope all the guys improve and overcome this rough start because we have some nice post play on this team and I hope it don't get choked off by sagging defenses. Teams that do well have good guard play.
I don't care about last year it's gone. As I said all our guards need to play better. Who the coach puts in the game is irrelevant to me because it's out of my control. He apparently feels at this time KJ is his best option. If you find that offensive it sucks to be you.Kevin Johnson gets singled out bc he's been the same player for 4 years. Caupain was the best player on the team last year. Surely you understand why one would get the benefit of the doubt over the other.
It's an insult to us fans that we have to watch Kevin Johnson get endless opportunities with no consequences for brutal mistakes. Like our untrained eyes can't see the nuances of his game. My a**. He is a bad player by every measure. Every stat, the eye test, you name it. He doesn't belong on the floor. But year after year our coach puts guys like him, Thomas, Sanders, and Guyn out there even though they have had their chances and have proven that they can't play. And we wonder why we suck in big games.

I post her because I enjoy the conversation.Isn't it all out of your control? So why even post here Waite?
Yes, Caupain needs to play better and has been disappointing so far. KJ has sucked as well. Difference is the team is still better when Caupain is on the floor and this team needs Caupain. KJ won't ever be good and is taking away minutes from players who need as many minutes as they can get to develop. If this team is going to go far this year it will be because JJ or Cumberland develop. You can't have such a huge weak spot at your SG position and expect to beat many good teams.

sorry Jake just don't see it as offensive or embarrassing. I guess will just have to agree to disagree. It's very offensive. A SR SG goes 2-8 from 3 and 4-12 overall and scores 10 points with little other impact in 35 minutes against Samford, and he was at a press conference after the game fielding questions about his "breakout game". It's embarrassing for UC basketball.

I agree with your statement to a point but apparently the coach feels the best way to win the games and develope the players is in direct contrast to what is talked about on this board.

L-T your right if we don't make a few more shots we will see a healthy diet of zone defense. JJ will have his up and downs this year. His defense last night was not on par with his previous outings. . Let's hope he picks it back up. if JJ wants to see more action he needs to build on his performance prior to lastnight. I also share your comment on TC. He has not been nearly as effective as I would like him to be.Your last sentence says it all. And our guard play is atrocious. Jennifer is a much better defender this year, and until this game has looked better shooting, but last night looked a lot like last year's Jennifer. I am the most disappointed by his passing. He has been Croninized. There were a number of possessions where he and Caupain passed back and forth to each other 50 times. When he isn't playing toss with Caupain, he has developed an expertise at playing the good old "toss it around the 3-pt. Line" game until the shot clock runs out and rush a 3-pt shot. Had I not seen a player early last year that would get out in transition and deliver amazingly creative highlight reel passes and incredible drives to the basket with up and under dipsy do layup conversions, I would never believe it now. And KJ is KJ. And unfortunatrely, Caupain is Caupain. What can I say. He is what he is. Player of the year? Come on. He has zero chance at player of the year. He may not even be top 3 on his own team....certainly not top 2. College basketball is guard dominated and 3-pt dominated, and we have neither. We do have a much better inside game, but I'm not sure how far that will carry us.
Last night was a wake-up call for me. I was drinking the Kool-aid a lot and seeing visions of granduer before last night. But, last night I started seeing visions of zone defenses and it wasn't a pretty vision.
