Anyone ever notice that whenever a player sucks on offense, he gets labeled as an "elite defender."

I don't care how good someone is on defense if they're turning the ball over on 1/3 of his possessions ( which coming into tonight he was) and have a sub 60 offensive rating, you can't play that guy.

I'll be curious to see how this " good" game on 4-12 shooting with another two turnovers updates his season long percentages.

I'm sure he's a good kid, a nice guy, and hard worker. The problem is it's year 4 and he's just not good enough. Time to roll with someone younger who might turn into something.

calm down if u didnt notice he completely shut down the players he was defending got a ton deflections and was in middle multiple turnovers that led to fast break points. sometimes as fans i think we worry too much about offense and dont realize everything else hes doing. those who say his defense is not good enough to defend keeping him out there i wonder what the hell they are watching. theres a reason we were able to completely shut down the other teams best guard last year in multiple games and the reason was kevin johnson.

i think people need to calm down when it comes to KJ including myself its almost ridiculous at this point. i just wonder what people are watching that they cant see the guy is an elite defender that helps our team in so many ways. they only see the missed three or maybe lazy pass every now and then.

its almost like us uc fans me included have to have a player we blame everything on and get mad if he plays so that the young guy who cant guard a lick that has a better jumper can play more.
It is a long season

I am happy that nobody was hurt.

The young guy is a top fifty player with upside who can use these minutes to actually get better, as opposed to a senior who is the same player he was as a freshman

I would highly suspect KJ shoots the ball decent to good in practice.

Classic player who puts to much on himself come game time and can't connect. Not sure you can change that.

We can definitely still win the conference. But I really don't like these kind of games. It just gives me the same feeling watching it that I have pretty much every year. We just feel so inept at times, no matter who the players are.

Side note: Evans has been a little careless with the ball. Needs to clean that up.

Nysier is going to help us a lot this year. Maybe not every game but situational for different matchups. If Brihma is hurting us for uconn i can see Brooks helping us those games a lot too.

Caupain and Johnson need to calm down and start hitting 3s. I get it, they aren't field Williams but they are better than what they are shooting especially Caupain.
I think this senior stuff is making them feel pressured

Gary will do this all year and I'm cool with it. Kind of quiet numbers but will finish with 8-10 boards and 9-12 points. That's fine but needs to keep being consistent

Evans and Washington could be first team all Americans in the AAC.

Yeah it wasn't pretty tonight. It happens. Keep plugging away. Big game next Thursday. We need that one.

Crowd looked better tonight?

Man. Every one seems pretty down about this game. But I'm finding positives in that we were down 16 and came back and won by 15... I dunno if last 2 years teams could ever come back from 16 and win by 15...

Add in that, the zone and defense samford plays is meant to force you to take bad 3's. the fact is, when the 3 ball isn't Falling, most zone defenses will be hugely successful.

I loved that Kyle Washington could sit all first half and still come in and dominate the second half. He stood the whole time he was on thd bench cheering for his team (no one was). I really love that guy and he will help us win a lot of games when the guards aren't scoring.

I mean we had terrible guard play and still scored 70.

Washington is quickly rising on my favorite Bearcats list. Can only say good things about him. Couldn't be more impressed.

Observations from tonight's game:

Washington's presence completely changes this team. His length, energy, athleticism and aggressiveness completely change the way we look on the floor. We're flat without him.
Brooks can contribute - he plays big, can protect the rim and clean up some trash around the basket.
We are not a good jump shooting team. We already knew that, but tonight highlighted it.
We absolutely have to create offense off of turnovers and offensive rebounding. That's what turned it around tonight. In the past, we might not have been able to generate enough points to overcome the giant hole we dug for ourselves.
I'm not too concerned about tonight. It's not too surprising that our energy was low...holiday week, lower tier opponent, coming off a big weekend. It's too bad that we don't have more of a killer instinct. I think Kyle is the only killer in the bunch. Jacob is a really skilled scorer, but he doesn't press the action much. Hopefully that changes as we move along.

Hopefully we give a better effort on Saturday.

Go Cats!

Yes, and I've mentioned it a number of times on here before. KJ's defense isn't great. It's slightly above average and that's it. For as much as he reaches in he should have a lot more steals yet he is always on the lower end of the steals spectrum.

I like KJ, as a person. Seems like an awesome kid and I'll always root for him to succeed. But he is nowhere near the talent of a D1 starter. His stats as a senior are atrocious. Mick has to play Cumberland in the hopes he develops. You can't have a starting SG getting the minutes that KJ gets and average nearly as many turnovers as you do points. He simply is not a D1 player.

Kevin did raise his ORtg to 69.1 so I guess that means he deserves his 30+ minutes... SMH.

Kevin (21) and Troy (20) are second and third in three point attempts and are shooting 9-41 (21.9%). That's awful.
