Xavier lost 3 out of its last 4 without its best glue guy and 3 & D player. They were making the tourney until that span.

But Would you swap their roster or keep ours?

I think they have a better roster foundation. I think kunkel will be a bigger factor for them over the next 2 seasons.

If Steele could actually coach, that would be a top 25 team.

What's your fascination with Kunkle. We have Mason who I would take any day over him. Steele may be able to bring in talent but he can't coach. He hasn't had an at large resume in the last 2 years. You pick some weird hills to fight on

it's weird isn't it? a junior is averaging 1.5 points more than a true freshman who wasn't expected to do anything yet he loves him. i imagine if that same player was on UC doing the same things he'd have a different one.

Back when Mason had played about 6 minutes on the year I think there was a question posed as to who you would take. JHub was all up in Kunkel's jock.

Also there was a lot of regression talk about MAW at the time by JHub. Most of the fans in here were asking for a little patience since it was a small sample.

Now Mason coming off his best game and MAW has his ORTG above last year. It never gets old watching some of these posts age.

Why are you guys obsessed with my takes. I live rent free in peoples heads and I don't even try to.

AT THE TIME I MADE THOSE COMMENTS, VOGT AND MAW HAD REGRESSED SIGNIFICANTLY 60% into the season. I said it could change. IT DID NOT CHANGE FOR VOGT BUT IT DID CHANGE FOR MAW.

I have no idea what is so hard to understand about that? According to you, we can only make takes at the end of the season. Its not true. Im making takes about A MOMENT IN TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not about his overall career arch.

At the moment In time, UC sucked really bad and MAW and VOGT Regressed.

As for Mason, Im impressed with his shooting. But my questions remain: Can he defend at this level. Can he splash 3's when he's now circled on the scouting report.

I like Mason. He's confident. And He may very well work out. But that doesn't mean on a roster that really lacks high end talent that I want to make a living recruiting guys in bottom of the rankings.

As for Kunkel, he's playing in the big east not the American. But I still think he is a good scorer if even he hasn't shown it yet. Mason's best games were against

I want Mason to succeed because its been a long while since we've had a shooter like him. But if you break down his best games: they are against bad teams

Against Memphis and Vandy he had offensive ratings of 27 and 74.

If you give it, you have to be able to take it without getting butthurt. We all say dumb stuff. Just say my bad and move on.

14 games in a 20 game regular season is not a small sample size. We’re almost at 75% of tbd regular season over.

But since your asking for some facts, I’ll give you 14 games of statistical regression for both Vogt & MAW
So if someone called right now and said.., we will do a clean trade. 3 years of Kunkel for 5 years of mason. You’re sticking with Mason?

Ohh man. Stubborn
Nah, you weren't just talking about a moment in time. You said it wasn't a small sample size, meaning you had enough information to draw a conclusion.

Then you turned around and said those of us who didn't want to trade Kunkel for Mason based on a few games were stubborn.

Ok.

Good lord you still don’t get it. MAW had not regressed. He went through a bad or cold stretch of 10 or so games. He’s still almost the exact same player he was. Hello!!

Ouch!!

Maw stinks I don’t care about fancy computer numbers. My eye test tell me he shouldn’t be playing 30+ min game ever for UC

I agree. I've even said if MAW decides to leave because his minutes are reduced, so be it. But he hasn't regressed. Overall he's better than last year.

I actually think MAW is the quintessential glue guy. He defends. He can make shots. He is pretty good in the lane. Yes he can disappear at times, but it's a learning curve. Last year he had Cumberland out there with him. This year he is seeing what it's like having to shoulder more responsibility. He will be fine.

As for stinking? We all do now and again.

I like that MAW is getting to the rim a lot more the past 5 games. Our ball movement and having multiple shooters has allowed him to penetrate.

He's taken it to the rim at least 3 times per game the last 5 games. The previous 9 games that only happened once.

I think he's alright if he's your 5th option out there.

It wasn't a small sample size in a small season. He absolutely had regressed from the moment I was speaking about.

I was going off FACTS at that time. MAW was flat out awful and every one here knows it. He wasn't awful for 2 games or 4 games. He was awful through over 10 games. That was concerning. and if he starts slow next year its also a concern.

I mean what are we even talking about?

Im calling any takes next year that revolve around how a player is playing.

This is a No takes until the season is over kinda board. I absolutely stand by what I said. And as for Mason vs Kunkel, well lets see Mason do it again someone good. And then Ill jump on the Mason on Kunkel Train myself.

This isn't how sample sizes work, and I think you know that. Nobody thought DJ LeMahieu was the next Ted Williams when he had a .400 average halfway through the shortened season.

In Kunkel's last six games with X fighting for a tourney spot he's 7-32 from three. MAW made 8 of his first 32 threes this season. If MAW regressed, then what is Kunkel doing?

Mason is 4-7 against top 50 competition. How do you decide if he can "do it against someone good"? If you're counting Vandy as a good team, then I guess the entire Big East is good. Kunkel has two 1-7 games, a 1-6, and a 0-5 in conference play. He has a few good games in there too, but none with 4+ made threes. Do you need to see Mason go 5-9 against Houston? Across any sample size, there's not much to suggest Kunkel is any better than Mason right now. Maybe he will be, but no one is stubborn for preferring Mason.

All of these stats don't tell us much of anything because, yes, they're small sample sizes. MAW is probably a little better than last year overall, and is struggling with his 3 pt shot. Kunkel is a guy who takes care of the ball and is a streaky 3pt shooter. Mason has been a similar player so far.

In statistics, small sample sizes are used to adjust priors based on bigger sample sizes - like career stats and typical progression of all players. You can't really draw conclusions using only a small sample. Mid season takes should reflect that.

Why couldn’t we and why shouldn’t we want both Mason kunkel? Even if gabe comes back I still wouldn’t mind another shooter like Mason! I’m telling y’all with Saunders we going need all shooters we can get.

if you look at who we are trying to get for 2021, its shooters and bigs.

I believe you were calling it year over year regression at the time. It was pointed out the year wasn't over yet. And now you know why.

You were calling people stubborn about Mason yet here you are creating more hoops for yourself to jump through (to get on a train) so you don't have to say "maybe I was wrong".

What’s wrong with maw? I’m not saying the guys great but he’s a decent role player, that shoots it ok, and plays good defense. And he’s a sophomore. He could be solid player in a year. I know people want a whole team of stars but that’s not the real world. You have to have some guys that are fine with playing a role and not having to have the ball.

I don’t care about kunkel vs mason. I just get Justin fired up, I think both will have good careers, buts it really hard not to be excited about mason. We just haven’t had many guys that can shoot like that here. A couple here and there but this guy is fearless. That’s scary for opposing teams.

I'm excited for 2 more years of MAW. He is a solid player. Right now he lets the game come to him, and as an upperclassmen I think he takes the next step to being more assertive. I think the last few games have shown him he can take on more of load and still be successful. he's a program guy, and if we look back on the CJB era as a positive in 5-10 years we will think about MAW like with think about Bishop or Dixon from Mick's early days.
