Looking at Torvik over the last three years for UNCG: It seems like they exceled at not turning the ball over, forcing TO's, offensive rebounding, not giving up free throws and adjusted defense.
You've got this backwards. They give up a ton of free throws. If I had to pick the one thing about Wes that scares me the most, it's that his teams give up a bunch of three point attempts and free throws every year. It's going to be hard to stop modern offenses doing that. And it's not something it seems like he wants to correct given his comments. He'd rather try to beat you with pressure and rebounding. I think he wants to fix the offense, but he's got pretty bad scheme issues there too. I'm hopeful, but these are the things that worry me. He wasn't playing modern basketball at UNCG.

I could’ve fielded top 5 team with core of players within 50 miles.

Teague/carlik
Cumberland 2x
McBride/kid went duke
Kid went Princeton/Davenport
Hayes/ward

Hindsite is 20/20, what were their rankings when they came out of HS? It's easy to look back and point to the guys who became stars and ignore the ones who didn't.

It doesn’t hit in ANY deliverables. It’s modest an not future searching. It sucks IMO

But I’m gonna get in the train you better believe!!

Oh, I guess I did. His team was very good at three point defense in 2018 and 2021 though, so hopefully he's learning.

I do like not fouling, but Sampson has success with the commit so many fouls the refs stop calling them strategy.

I was more on board with Brannen than this

But I will back this coach to the moon and back and then 5 times more

But how many top 50 kenpom teams have they beaten?

I am also fine with Wes Miller, I do wonder why Scott Nagy wasn't interviewed if we are going the veteran coach route. But I suppose Wes is quite a bit younger and a bit more successful.

Pedon might outrage a lot of the people who want Martin. He's not much (if any) more qualified.

He’s beat 100 top 50 teams, dude he’s from a small conference what the hell do you want.

Why?

We just landed a guy who had legit interviews at UNC and by most accounts was the runner up.

He’s young, hungry, relatable, and knows defense.

Offense can be fixed with better players.

I can understand not loving him. But saying John was better is just short sighted.

I’m excited, and I just listened to CBS sports podcast and they did a 10 minute segment on our hire and they seem to love it. So does Goodman, borzello, and others,

LOL most of college basketball thinks we hit a home run except UC fans. John Brannen was a nobody to the national media.

I was on board with many of the other names. Marty, Archie, gates, tang, etc

Personally I wanted Martin and Exel but that must have fallen apart

What is modern about Martin and Van Exel though? We are going through an entire rebuild. We need a guy who’s been a head coach.
