Jalen Tate hit the winning free throws to beat Kentucky tonight.

That was another huge miss from this staff where most people thought were we the favorite.

Would love to have Jalen Tate on this team.

Doesnt matter how you can slice it. Not getting him was a red flag for brannen

You don’t move up in coaching and miss out on your former players! That’s like me giving a elite player handlers jobs and that elite player goes elsewhere! Lmao you got all type excuses!

No excuse, it’s confusing. You’d think he would have. He had a lot of success under brannen. It’s not like we heard of issues between the two, or brannen didn’t play him or use him. We don’t know. It’s not an excuse to say you don’t know.

I just think the Tate situation and then the Alabama assistant situation were a bit alarming.

These were places where CJB had relationships built prior to even becoming the UC coach and yet in both cases they chose not to come to Cincinnati.

I think the player is way more alarming than an assistant. Assistants are unpredictable. We seen that when cronin left

I think the tate thing is fair. He’s dad went here. He’s former coach is here. Which he had success under. I would have bet money he would have ended up here. I don’t think all the other misses are fair. Coaches miss on a lot of players but Tate thing is odd

I'm disappointed we missed Tate and definitely hold Brannen accountable for that to a degree, but one could argue that he had just as much, if not more of a reason, to go to OSU.

-His dad also played there (before transferring to UC)
-His brother, Jae'Sean had a storied career there
-He grew up in Columbus

This article insinuates he had interest from OSU.

Tate, 6-6, 180 pounds, chose Arkansas over interest from Cincinnati, Ohio State, Central Florida, Kansas State, Gonzaga and others. The more than 14,000 Razorbacks fans in attendance for Arkansas' early-season 66-60 win over Northern Kentucky made a big impact on him.

Yeah, we just don’t know. Maybe it was as simple as not to wanting to go where his dad went. Start his own thing. I have no idea

Who cares about Tate. I’ll take two year DDJ any day. Wouldn’t have gotten both. Tate hit game winning free throws great for him. I also watched the game when he missed the 3 towards the end of the Tennessee game to send it to overtime. Dudes far from a miss worth stressing over

Who cares? I mean I do,

He went to a team with a first year coach who moved up a level in college basketball just like our coach did and his team is winning. It was the closest thing to a recruiting lock and he chose not to come to UC. Uc would have taken him.

It’s more about my concerns with this staff and recruiting long term. I don’t believe in their ability to scout transfers and I don’t believe they will beat many high major schools for players,

The support staff needs a shake up. It’s mid major and a bit arrogant to think you can take an entire staff of mid major assistants with no high major player relationships and win with them at UC. We need to add a high major recruiter who can bring recruiting momentum.

True or false: of these 4 schools with 2nd year head coaches (UCLA, Arkansas, Alabama & UC) uc has the least amount of recruiting momentum of the 4

I’m not asking for excuses, just a flat out answer.

My personal theory is.... John Brannen’s relationships with his players isnt nearly as good as we think it is.

I don’t think he’s a culture coach, or a players coach or a relationship coach.

This is just my Vibe from him. I think he comes off as cold and vacant. I think he has a ton of ego and it’s gets in the way sometimes.

I think he understands the game, the schemes and the ins and outs of basketball but I think coaching is way more than just X’s and O’s

I think he’s a less people person than Mick which is hard lol...

This is MY OPINION obviously

Your opinion is also based on the fact that you never liked the guy. There’s no way of us knowing how he’s relationship is with his players. You can guess, that’s fine. But realize that you just came up with all that culture stuff, and how good a person he is, based on nothing. That seems like some big leaps based on absolutely nothing. But have at it. Just don’t tell me you gave him a fair shot. You can stop saying that. I’ve never heard of an issue with him and his players. I mean he kept getting good players at nku, and kept winning. If it was that bad, I’m sure we would have heard something.

You should ask DDJ, Saunders, Davenport, etc. about this. I’m sure they would agree with you. Are you hiding in the locker room or something? Or just sitting behind your iPhone judging?

I literally just said it’s my opinion and my personal vibe from him.

I could be dead ass wrong. But it’s my opinion.

I do have a nephew who’s friends with a few players, who’s told me the vibe in the locker room has not been great (this was pre Covid break).

Since the Covid break, UC got to play some slump busters and I think the body language had improved since the break.

If John brannen wins, recruits, gets Us to some sweet 16’s then I don’t care what his relationship with players is.. just like no one cared what Greg Marshall’s was until he started losing.

I want UC to win. And I think the situation that John was handed was far better than most coaches get at a new program. So I expect to win soon. I don’t want to wait 4-5 years before we make a tourney again.

All my complaints go away if UC is nationally respected again. But we aren’t respected on the court and on the recruiting trail at the moment

Is there anyone that doesn’t like brannen? Aside from jarron I’ve never heard anyone even hint to this. All the media people and players seem to love the guy

I think everyone gets it by now. Do we have to go over this after every game though?
