Top 50 Non-conference Games 2016-17 Season

BearcatTalk

Help Support BearcatTalk:

They have 3 Bearcats games on here, Rhode Island, Butler, and Xavier. And we've got a couple more good ones with Iowa State and hopefully Duke. If we can win a few might be the boost we need to get a better seed this year.

They will be very important games for us. Not many chances in conference play to both quality wins. That Rhode Island game will be the most important imo. It's basically a home game for Rhode Island tho.

11. Rhode Island vs. Cincinnati, Nov. 19 (Hall of Fame Tipoff): This one will be played at Connecticut-based casino Mohegan Sun. I was high on URI last year, then injuries wiped out its season. With everyone healthy and a fairly deep roster, I think the Rams will wind up in the 5-to-8-seed range by the time we get to Selection Sunday. Cincinnati's Troy Caupain is one of the nation's most overlooked players.

32. Cincinnati at Butler, Dec. 10: Parrish and I are going to start compiling out our list of the top 101 players in the country soon enough, and I'm going to insist Kelan Martin is in the top 40. I think he'll be outstanding for Butler this season. But above him on that list will be Troy Caupain, who should push the Bearcats to a seventh straight Big Dance showing.

46. Xavier at Cincinnati, Jan. 26: When the team predicted to be better has to go on the road in a big rivalry game, those are the best rivalry games of all. Edmond Sumner, who nobody, not even Xavier's coaches, thought would be this good this fast, is on track to be a first-round draft pick.

Very big game, really want that shot at duke this year.

So if this ends up being correct, Matt will have Troy Caupain as a top 40 player in college basketball

Do you not seeing him being that good? Id imagine he's gonna be a top 5-10 PG this year. He's only gonna improve on last season, I think that's a given with a guy like him.

No I love Troy and our team this year BUT I just never expect sports media to ever really give UC players any real credit or exposure

I'm not sure I see Caupain as a Top 40 player in all of College Basketball. Top 100, probably bc of what he means to his team. But he's going to have to be way better to get beyond that.

Well like I've said its called optimism, we can be negative all we want but where does that get you. But honestly I don't think I'm being overly optimistic at all, I think Troy has the potential to be one of the best PGs in college basketball this season. Whether that translates to him getting NBA looks is TBD since you know he stayed in college for four years.

Why is it negative to call one of our players Top 100 in the entire sport? That's the top 2% of all D1 players. And I think Clark is there too.

He's got to improve in his %s this year. He does everything else so well, but 37.5% FGs and 32.4% from deep doesn't cut it. Needs to get a little more selective, like he was soph. year (44.4% FGs, 40.8% from three).

I agree here. I think Troy had more on his shoulders than he will this year. He was the main option to take last second shots last year. I think Evans will be a huge benefit to Troy's percentage this year. Hopefully Washington will be an option late in the clock that we don't have to avoid. Clark is an option and who knows how Cumberland might help.

To win close games you need several options. Guys who are not only capable but actually want the ball in their hands when the clock runs down. I don't want to degrade anyone here but Ellis and Thomas weren't exactly that type of player Troy could count on. Cobb was okay.

Agree also.

I actually think offensively it's addition by subtraction by using losing Ellis and Shaq. I personally like both those players but on offensive they were huge TO guys. Ellis also clogged the lane because he couldn't seem to make a shot unless he was under the rim. So on offense i see us being more fluid , protecting the ball better and spreading out the defense.

But we will absolutely miss Ellis and shaq on defense. Especially Ellis as just his presence alone made big guys weary of taking inside shots. Clark is a beast on D as well but what made our team one of the best at protecting the paint was having two legit rim protectors. Thomas did a nice job on d as well
