Guys it's not difficult to see where this game was lost. We shot 38 percent at foul line and gave up a ton of second chance points because we were beat on the offensive glass by 8 boards. We also were ripped on defensive glass. If we cut the second chance points by 5 and hit 65 percent of our FT's we win by 10. That's still without making a 3. We held this team to 50 points. The smallest guy on our team had 7 boards.i know many want a offensive team that just overwhelms teams but that isn't who we are. Kentucky really don't lite it up offensively. The Cats can't get killed on the glass and shoot 38 percent from the stripe and win.

And for those wanting Cobb to start. You may want to consider who would run the point if he and Troy picked up two quick fouls. Would anyone want to put the ball in KJ's hands. How about Shaq or Sanders. By bringing him in off the bench I can still get him minutes and team him with Troy as the game unfolds.with our turn over issues we can't afford to lose both of these guys for minutes in a game. If I start both players and one picks up two quick fouls the other can't get a rest in 1st half.

Does the zone effect rebounding? I think so. How far fetched is m2m with this group?

I think the hybrid match up zone they are playing has made us a little less effective on the boards. That said the last two games the other team just looked quicker to the ball. Rebounding is a lot of effort.

Hey guys, I'm new here, I have been following this site for awhile but after this loss decided to join to weigh in. I agree this loss is pretty discouraging, especially the overall lack of passion/fire from our players. I feel they didn't get up for the game until the final 2 minutes. Troy has been struggling since he was benched and our offense is a joke ever since Cronin has been here. Our offense is similar to what is run by 3rd graders..... motion at the top of the key with no off ball movement and then jacking up bad shots or turning the ball over. Although can't blame the coaches for players not making plays or hitting shots or free throws. I'm really interested to see how this team responds Wednesday vs X. If this team can't get fired up and play with passion for the Shootout I will seriously lose all my hope for this season and next season (which I have had really high hopes for and guaranteed friends a Sweet 16 haha).

No one is saying we need to be an offensive juggernaut, but we play a style that teams with no talent play. It guarantees that you're in most games, but you are also vulnerable at all times. We have seen that against some terrible teams this year.

Also, we can worry about a potential 3rd string PG if/when the first 2 guys get in serious foul trouble. But I'd rather take my chances with that at this point than continue to run KJ out there.

Agreed Jacob. And I'm not saying Waite is wrong, he's not. If they simply are who they are, then what they are needs to change and it starts philosophically at the top with the coaching staff. They might not be the most talented in the world but they're not the '05 team either.

+/- today

Sanders +10 (29 minutes)
Morman +4 (15)
DeBerry +4 (9)
Caupain +1 (30)
Cobb +0 (26)
Ellis -5 (33)
Clark -5 (20)
Thomas -5 (11)
KJ -9 (27)

KJ 8-36 (22%) FG last 5 games in 27 minutes per game. His average minutes per game are going up in this span.

I had to wait until today to post because I am pissed.

But, the sky is not falling.... yet. This team has surprised me with their losses but also with their wins. It's hard to be optimistic after losing to TULANE but SMU was a week and a half ago.

They need to figure a way to beat MEMPHIS and Tulsa.
The lineup needs tweaked again. Sanders and Johnson were terrible. Thomas was invisible unless he was fouling someone.

I really think LD is not making good adjustments in game. DeBerry and Morman were big reasons on why we were back in the game. We have to keep them in down the stretch. 38% From the free throw line is just amazing to me. I coach a 9-10 year old bball team and they definitely can shoot better than that.

I really think temple gave everyone the formula to beating UC and Tulane followed it to perfection. Mick better get the coaches to fix this or we will be a NIT team.

That should be the '07 or '08 team, not the '05.

Jacob we play that style because the make up of the team gives us the best chance to win. I have been very out spoken about our need for better point guard play. You want to run uptempo but who do you think consistently can deliver the ball. TC is not a PG. When he is at his best is when he is at the 2. Same is true of Cobb. Heck we have had a problem delivering the ball to the post all year. Ellis could have scored all day yesterday. We are very inconsistent from the wing and lately we have missed foul shots and been out rebounded. Speeding up the game is not the answer for this group. If we hit FT,out rebound the opposition and play our strong D we can win out the regular season. Speeding up our tempo with the turn over issues this team has had all year is not the answer. Again speeding up the game with the issues we have turning over the Basketball would be playing into the hands of the opponent.

Also I have concerns about your theory that a slow down offense enables teams who have less talent to stay in the game. What allows teams to stay in games is TO's,giving up offensive rebounds and shooting 38 percent from FT line. Another bad approach would be trying to change what you do well and have won with because it allows others teams less talented to stay in game. What wins games is being consistent in what you do well. Changing your approach from game to game depending on the talent of the opposition is not a good idea.

What the Cats need to do is get to foul line more then opponents(which they have done well all year),make FT's,rebound the ball and play strong Defense. Speeding up the game for a team that TO the ball at the rate this team has is not a good approach and exactly why Mick and staff have not employed it.
