Three games in eight days against teams ranked among the top 11 teams in the country as the University of Cincinnati Bearcats make one last-ditch attempt to reach the NCAA Tournament.

It starts Saturday at No. 8 West Virginia.

“It’s going to take a huge push from the whole team,” said UC forward Yancy Gates. “But we feel that we have the players to do it.”

Before tackling that killer three-game stretch, though, the Bearcats first had to get past DePaul on Wednesday night.

They managed to do that with a 74-69 victory before 8,111 at Fifth Third Arena despite going 0-for-9 from 3-point range and enduring another woeful night at the free throw line, where they made just 14 of 32 shots for 43.8 percent. They outrebounded DePaul, 47-31, and shot 50.8 percent from the field.

They aren't going to beat any good team if they can't shoot ft's. They have to find a way to at least shoot in the mid 60 % area. They left 18 points on the line last night. Hit half of those and the game isn't close. If it's me I start Cash, Davis, Lance, Thomas, and Gates. Bring Deonta off the bench along with Dixon, Bishop, and Toyloy. Other players get little, if any minutes.

I would like to see some more of Wilks.

Yea, the kid is all over the place on Defense, but like Dixon he atleast hustles. I also feel that when he does play he seems to hit jumpers consistently and is 7 of 19 from three. Also think Davis's shots will get more consistent with more PT.

I agree with your line up but I just can't believe we are going to make a run at this thing without Deonta.

brutal! worst display of free throw shooting I've seen this year said the tv announcer. Must not watch us play much.Still loving the turnovers after time outs. sadly humorous!

As GreatOne mentioned in another thread or post:

3/3 and we dance baby.

2/3 we are on the right side of the bubble

1/3 we still have life and need two wins in NY.

0/3 we are dead men walking.

Mick needs to win 2 of 3 to get into the tourney and regain some of that lost confidence.

I really believe this too.

Thoughts>?

I think you're spot on.
The only possible exceptions...
If we get 2 wins and still somehow land 9th, I think we need to beat Depaul to feel good.
If we get 1 win and somehow land 8th, we might be OK with 1 win and a loss to Nova/Cuse.

All of this is splitting hairs though. You're right.
