UC was lethargic and sloppy throughout the first half, but still trailed by only one at halftime. After the break, the Bulls simply came out more prepared to play and win than the Bearcats did. UC let the game get out of hand early in the second half when USF scored nine straight points to take a 33-23 lead with 15:52 remaining. The 'Cats had five turnovers in the first four minutes of the second frame.

At times during what was a crucial game for the Bearcats, the players appeared to simply be standing around, looking for open jump shots without even trying to take advantage of their size and rebounding ability. Stan Heath's Bulls, however, seemed to realize the importance of the contest. They played physical basketball at each end of the court and simply out-hustled UC.

No way to deny any of that.

My biggest problem with Mick is at times his team looks uninterested and bored. That must change.

I disagree with the uninterested and bored, but I do think they tend to look lost or confused.

I think we play too many people and not everyone gets the necessary reps in practice.

Out coached? If every loss is because you were out coached then you have to give Mick credit for out coaching HOF Jim Calhoun twice this season.

Doesn't work like that. If we lose it's because of our coaching...if we win it's despite our coaching.

Fair point.

Some don't buy into that. Some believe if we win it is because we have more talent. If we lose it is obviously on the coach.

Mick needs to do better. But I put a lot more blame on Lance, Yancy and Deonta.

The out coached saying is greatly over blown and over stated. Players decide the games not the coaches (although sometimes it is the refs, ie Gonzaga.)

I agree, coaching wasnt the problem last night. It was the fact the we played the worst offensive game all year! I havent looked at the stats but didnt we not score a bucket for like 8+ min? I mean really, there was one point in the second half I had to strain my brain to remember if we even shot the ball (around the 13 min mark). Why does it take until the end of the game for Deonta and company to drive to the basket and draw fouls?

P.S. I can't stand big east officials anymore, they clearly favor home teams with calls! (Except of course when we are at home)

That would be coaching!!!

Offensively this was discussed last night that the numbers were very similar to the UCONN game, but not gettin into all that again. So to say worst offense all season is inaccurate.

Statistically it may not have been our worst game all season, but going by the eye test and having to see them not take advantage of USF I think this was by far our worst game on offense.

I disagree strongly. A great coaching plan can win games that should not have been won.

I do think the lack of leadership on the court is killing UC. Mick not only didn't cause a TO, but his senior all-league player (DV) isn't taking control of his team.

If I recall, Vaughn had ONE shot in the first half. Yes, really.

Exactly, where is DV when we really need him to take over the game? Sure he comes on strong at the end when the game is over, but why doesnt he do that all game!

Great post.

The best teams can self dicipline. I would love for Deonta to get in one of his teammates faces ONE TIME!

People will blame mick for Deonta not shooting... watch. Although he is a senior all conference player who should be able to be accountable for stuff like that people find it easier to blame Mick.

If that's the case, then why do you always bring up that MICK out coached HOF coach at Uconn? It was the players, not the coach. According to you.

I will say this:

Players make plays, shots, steals, rebounds, passes, decisions, etc.

Coaches put players in the best position to do all of the above.

I place the majority of blame on Mick, but the players must be held accountable too. At one point in the second half, Yancy missed 2 layups and Dixon missed one layup in less than 1 minute.

With 4 minutes to go, we were down 11 and miss two layups (Dixon is stripped and Thomas dribbles off his leg).

Also, I knew it wasn't our night when Mick called a timeout and designed a play. Coming out of the timeout we inbounds the ball, then throw it to Vaughn on the wing and it goes through his hands, drills his face and rolls out of bounds. You have to be kidding me, right?

I was disheartened by how many layups Gates and Thomas missed. Let's face it, they had chances to win, and the team blew it, regardless if Lumberjack was coaching.

Both the team and coach are very responsible.

I agree, players must be held accountable. The only reason I brought that up is because he was giving all the credit to Mick when they beat Uconn, and then blamed the players when losing to USF, stating that it is the players playing the game and not the coach. You can't have it both ways.
