I actually think Mike Davis could be a good hire, if UC is really going to get rid of Mick. Didn't davis take IU to the national championsihp game? That is pretty impressive.

All of this means nothing until we see how we finish the season

Thanks for that insight, it was just a response about the possibility of getting Davis, an acceptable hire IMO. First choice? No, but would I be upset with the hire, not at all.

Under what basis would you like the Davis hire? Not sure I understand this logic.

In NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM should we ever be interested in Mike Davis as our coach. That would be a gigantic downgrade. Mike Davis will never be able to recruit in the Big East, and he is not a good coach. I know he beat Mick twice so dont use that as your rationale that he is a better coach than Mick.[/QUOTE]

I don't use that, I use that he has beat Mick 3 TIMES head to head. But other than that, he will be a better recruiter that high school kids will actually know.

Well, he took a team to the national championship, which is impressive. He failed to qualify for a post season once while coaching at Indiana. Going to the NIT once, the championship game once, one first round exit, and two second round exits.

Then he has done pretty well at UAB, leading them to 23, and 22 win seasons the past two years. Seems like he is on track for another 20+ win season.

I'm not saying he is a first choice, but he would not be a bad hire.

Talent levels fell off dramatically after Bob Knights kids ran through. UC would lose 2-3 games in CUSA. That conference is a joke.

So why did he get fired? IU hasn't had talent at that school in 10 years. Occasional stud player here and there. Sampson infused Eric Gordon. Thats about it. If you want a coach from CUSA make sure they are dominating.

I would argue Mike Davis has more impressive non conference wins in his tenure at UAB than Mick does at UC

This year UAB has wins over:
Cincinnati, Buter, Arkansas, Georgia (I know they arent great but still SEC team)

Last year UAB had wins over:
@Arizona, South Florida

2007-2008 wins
Kentucky, Cincinnati

Looks like he beat quite a few mediocre teams minus Butler. Really not that impressive. Mick has much better wins this year than MD.

My main point was NON CONFERENCE wins, which I think UAB's are better. Hopefully tho the Vandy and Maryland wins can carry us non conference, too bad we let the Gonzaga game slip away.

Well Im stating that Mike Davis is not a better coach than Mick. I dont care what he does in nonconference. Show me what he does over a season at a mid major. The only way I would want a mid major coach is if they were a Bruce Pearl or Thad Matta type. Mediocre in CUSA = FAILURE in the Big East.

IMO the fact that we can even debate OOC wins bw mick and mike speaks volumes. Think about it, Mike is at UAB where it has to be tough to get recruits, Mick is in the BE where it has to be easier to get recruits, yet UAB OOC wins are still up to debat with Micks.

Completely uncalled for- I know the banning here isn’t as strong as other sites but at least respect other posters man. Don't turn this into a site where you disrespect other posters--its one of the things I like most about this site. People can have other opinions and not get killed for it-please keep it that way?

I am not saying I agree or disagree with you but if you can atleast respect other posters things will go a lot better.
