As I cannot remember one in my lifetime, does anyone know the last time UC beat a Big 10 team on the road?

The conference you play in does not matter. The quality of your football team does. Illinois is not a good football team, period. The bearcats are going to smash them.

This is so true. I was listening to local sports radio in Columbus and they were talking about how Ohio State doesn't control their own destiny (in their minds) because the Big Ten is so bad. They basically told everyone in Columbus to start rooting for Michigan this year because everyone else sucks. They commented about how Ohio State has Purdue, Illinois, and Iowa on the schedule and how Purdue didn't even belong on the same field as Cincinnati and this wasn't a slight at Cincinnati.

The bottom third of the Big Ten is atrocious. Jim Delany can thank his lucky stars his conference's flagship programs have good coaches and recruiters in Urban Meyer and Brady Hoke. I think the Big Ten getting beaten down by SEC teams in recent years has only added to their recruiting woes.

Yeah, when you are pinning your hopes on Northwestern being a top 15-20 team, you know you are in trouble.

Can you remember the last time UC has had talent like this from top to bottom on a roster? The answer is never. BK was excellent at finding guys who fit his system and even though they weren't amazingly talented, they did their jobs. Butch wasn't the best in-game coach, but he elevated our recruiting to a whole new level. Right now, UC has lots of talent on the field and it shows. We used to root for tiny guys like Haruki or good possession receivers like Binns and Gilyard. When I looked at the guys on the field Saturday, I saw big, strong, fast young men. Illinois is horrible and these guys will spank them.......

I am an enthusiastic reader of yours, Ralph, as you seem to enjoy a lively discussion and thought provoking questions (really). Just curious as to what your read is now that the game was played and the results were in. Do you still believe UC is going to come in at 8-4 ? What about Illinois ?

This is ridiculous. What a troll.

The talent was better in 2008 & 2009. Munchie Legaux is the number 1 QB on the team, what does that say about the talent level? Munchie Legaux vs Tony Pike?

That's one player. I'd take this roster top to bottom over those teams but results on the field count. Time will tell.

Brendon Kay is the #1 QB, his shoulder is sore so that's why he didn't start. Secondly, we have better offensive lines and linebackers than we had in those 2 years. The RB by committee looked great, the receivers did pretty well, and we had very minimal penalties. Good teams play disciplined football, and we didn't have very many mental mistakes.

Anyone remember how awful our D was that year? I mean, for pete's sake, Tim freaking Tebow threw for 400 yards on us...

I have little doubt that this will be the best defense in the history of Bearcat football. My main concern is consistent play from the QB position. I hope Kay takes over soon, although I still want to see Munchie behind center a couple snaps per game.

Is everyone forgetting how good the 08 defense was? This defense is good but thats a tall order.

The 2008 Bearcats team that gave up 40 to Connecticut and got rung up for 52 by Oklahoma?

Yes that team. UConn was a bad game that no one showed up to; just dreadful. As for Oklahoma, Sam Bradford had that team putting up 60 almost every week in the Big 12. Obviously, 52 is bad no matter what, but giving up that much to that team in Norman the second week of the season doesn't define a team.

Our defense was top 25 in basically every category at seasons end. I didn't say this defense can't be better; I just said it would be difficult.

That defense had some playmakers on it, was a veteran squard and had two shutdown corners. It was indeed a good defense. We had a coach that didn't stress defense and liked to hold the ball as little as possible, giving the defense plenty of time on the field. Also, I seem to remember UConn getting a couple pick 6's late in that game to run the score up. With that said, I would love for this unit to be better. This coach stresses D and will use more of a running game that will keep the TOP more in our favor. Will be interesting to see how the season plays out.

I thought about this post-game, but did anyone notice if the DB's were playing 8 yards off the receivers all game? I'm guessing no, but that was the main thing that drove me nuts about Butch Jones' defenses. He just gave the short pass away anytime the opponent wanted to take it.
