I'll be there, not sure where yet. This one scares me, I'm hoping for a let down after a huge win for SJU. It's going to be a battle either way. Yancy and Thomas must come to play and control the boards, otherwise this one's going to get ugly.

Don't forget BIGGIE!

And I'm not joking. He has contributed very solid minutes lately. If he gives you 10-15 minutes a game this team is better, right now at least, than if he doesn't.

UC gets overwhelmed with better opponents and they dont play with the same intensity vs top 25 as they do teams that they think they can beat... ...

Do they really not play with the same intensity or are they just not as good as the top 25 teams?

You guys mistake physical toughness with mental toughness. They play hard for the most part. They don't play with mental toughness. They allow one part of the game to affect all aspects of their game. If they can learn to play thru missed shots and opponents runs they will be fine. Good teams stick with game plans. They stay disciplined thru adversity. They understand you don't close 10 pt. gaps with a single shot or in 30 seconds. They get stops and stay within the structure of their offense, understanding that's how you get good shots and minimize turnovers. That is the element this team lacks.

There is not a single team in the country that is immune to this though. The problem is UC tends to have more of these lapses than some of the top teams. A couple examples today are Ohio State and Villanova. OSU blew a 15 point second half lead and just completely folded at Wisconsin. When the shots stopped falling, they panicked on the offensive end and made some mental mistakes that they haven't done most of the year. Nova had a player get a technical for throwing an elbow/punch and Fisher got a T for taunting (it was a double tech as a Pitt player got a T as well). They also were making stupid play after stupid play in allowing Pitt to open the lead up to 10 with 6 minutes to go in the second half.

No team is above this in college basketball this year. The key is to keep the mental lapses to a minimum which is something UC can do much better with.

I think the team will be better with this next year. Teams with a go to guy offensively, can overcome these things a little easier because when times get tough, the guys can look to someone to make a play. SK will be that guy for this team and I think he will step into that role next year. It really is the one big thing that this team is missing and is something we all knew would be an issue this year.

Starting off slow thus far. Too many TO's, but the intensity is good.

Wilks was an early disaster.

JK with two quick threes put UC up by 5.

Then.....more TO's, bad defense by Yancy, and a breakaway where instead of conceding the basket we decide to grab them from behind for an intentional foul.

I gotta admit, UC does not look like a smart team on the floor.

Aside from the points from JK (9 so far), and the hustle from Thomas and Jackson...I'm honestly not seeing much I like from the team.
Play smart.

Since JK hit the last three and UC was up 14-9 (I believe)...Johnnies have scored 15 unanswered to go up 24 to 14.

Kilpatrick. My bad.

UC: 6 points in the paint, 24 from outside.
St Johns...pretty much reverse the numbers.

Offense is pretty bad, to say the least, I just don't see much effort to take it inside...pretty much like usual.

UC cuts it to ONE with Bishop 3's.

I like how they are taking the ball TO THE GOAL as well. FINALLY.

15-1 run by Cincy over last 6 or so min to take a 3 point lead.

Nice inside move by Thomas via the dish. Waiting for that to happen!

pauldehnerjr Paul Dehner Jr.
SK with 15, Dixon with 12. Nobody else has more than 3 points for UC.

This board oughta be lively today.

I'm guessing 2/3 are going to likewise be done with Gates and Cronin equally.
We shall see.

St. John's goes last 8:57 without a field goal and still wins.

That's not good.

Junior forward Yancy Gates, UC’s second-leading scorer who was suspended for the Pitt game, played only briefly in the second half. He spent most of the second half at the end of the bench with his warmup jacket on. He failed to score and pulled down two rebounds in 12 minutes in the first half.

While the rest of his teammates were standing up during UC’s comeback, Gates remained seated.

After Thomas fouled out with 1:18 left, Gates ran to the scorer’s table to enter the game to a resounding chorus of boos. He then returned to his seat at the end of the bench without entering the game.

The Bearcats trailed by as many as 10 in the first half after St. John’s scored 15 straight points to take 24-14 lead with 9:35 remaining.

UC had a difficult time penetrating the Red Storm’s zone defense and handling the St. John’s full-court press. The Bearcats turned the ball over nine times in the first half.

The Red Storm shot 62.5 percent in the first half after making 13 of its first 17 shots, UC twice getting burned on transition layups by Boothe.

Consistent on going pattern trending towards tankville. I see it and I call it. I think the cats are still shooting 3 pointers and missing foul shots. ST Johns dribbles it better passes it better, and finishes better. Truly, what offense is being coached here regardless if Yancey Gates cares or not.
