Sanders had some productive minutes last night. Guyn's 7 points (in 5 minutes) was nice as well. Postive minutes from these two and Shaq would do wonders for this team.

I agree. I also think if Shaq could just get 5-8 more minutes it would help his confidence out. He always looks so shook out there. You can tell because he rushes everyone of his shots he takes whether its a jumper, around the rim, or a ft. He is so much quicker off the dribble than anyone else we have. I think he can get to the rim virtually every time because his defender won't be expecting it.

Probably rushes everything because he knows Mick will yank him at the first slight miscue. I agree, he needs more actual game minutes. He's really quick, but I wonder if bulking up a little would hurt his speed/agility. I think he's still in the growing stage physically.

If Shaq can add 20 Lbs to his frame he will be a stud next year. Good handles and is long. Sanders is relly starting to settle into his role. He suffered through some very untimely turnovers early in the year but is really playing much better now. GeLawn is also giving us a few quality minutes. PG will be the key to the success of the team next year. I really think if we get a good PG either from the returning group or incoming freshmen it will be the key to the season. We may not start out as well next year but as the kids blend in and gain some experience we will be a better team at years end.

Shaq's inability to give us what Parker does on the glass is part of the problem with his lack of playing time. Just to weak right now to compete for boards. whatmakes this offense work as little as it does is we have two guards in parker and SK who have Big E physical bodies. Shaq is in need of weight.

if Shaq adds 20lbs, would we have to call him David N 2.0?...he needs 20lbs up top and 10lbs in his legs...side note: i thought it was funny that Mick called David N "taylor swift" because of his legs...in all seriousness, you can see, or at least i see, that Shaq is going to be a gamer...as mentioned in a previous comment on this thread, his length alone makes him an asset defensively...i am not asking him to start (well kinda) or have his minutes jump up to 20-25, but they need to get this kid some experience...his slashing skills look solid...in my mind (which isnt always rational or realistic), Shaq could bring this offense a style of play similar to James White...

as frustrated as i am with the coaches and the players (as seen in my previous posts), i really do think these kids really need a boost to their confidence...i am really hard on Rubles based upon my offseason expectations and i really want to see what that kid can do with his confidence high...Guyn is gaining confidence/comfort and i like what he has been showing the last few games...

and no one needs a boost to confidence more than Parker...we have seen what he can do when he is playing at his optimal level...he may not be able to hit FTs now, but at least he is getting to the line...i hope guys like Rubles, Sanders, Shaq, and Guyn are taking notes while watching Parker and learning to follow their shot, get on the floor, or take it hard to the lane when the shots arent falling...

when his career is over at UC, a national/BEast title or not, in my opinion, Parker will be remembered for being a true/throwback Bearcat...very reminiscent to Immanuel McElroy...players with solid/not superior skills or athleticism and with the heart/drive that is superior to most opponents...

nparker, I think this is a very good basketball team . Good not great. They play very hard and get the most out of their ability. They are a inside post game from being a great team. The lack of a true post player makes this team one dimensional. Mick has done a good job selling the kids on playing hard and aggressive defense to overcome their limits offensively but in close games when you have to rely on jump shots instead of playing off a inside scoring big man it is just tough to execute. This is especially true when your best scorer SK is a guy who wants to shoot jump shots as opposed to putting the ball on the floor and creating a shot for hmself. I may have stated that wrong, what I mean is, he doesn't have the best handle in the world so it is difficult for him to get around defenders. Much easier to shoot over them. Again this is a good team that has flaws but is never out of games and is fun to cheer for. Getting Shaq minutes will be tough going forward because each game late in the season has greater meaning. he isn't developed physically yet to beable to play both end sof th floor. hopefullly that comes.

Daugherty wrote a column today about how the offensive woes have not disappeared, but instead, ignored for a game due to us shooting 12-15 from 3. I agree with that completely, but we were actually able to penetrate the lane and create good looks from 3. nice to see great minutes from guyn, gives us hope for next year. also, shaq and sanders gave us some good minutes. one glaring issue is parker going 4-11 from the free throw line. he is our one guard that seems to like to drive and initiate contact which is great, but it is not worth it if he is going to shoot 4/11. I don't get why cronins teams are year in and year out, one of the worst free throw shooting teams in the country. defense was unbelievable in the 2nd half. I was super happy to see us pushing the ball up the floor after rebounds and even made baskets. we played with a sense of urgency and the outcome showed it. keep that rolling into Friday and we will be in the game

It was 12-25 from 3. The point you make about getting good looks is key. SK tends to take some questionable threes from time to time but based on his track record, I am ok with it. Especially if he has just knocked down a couple shots. I tweeted during the game that the drive and kick was what jump started this offense in the second half. That is what Mick has wanted all year. SK did a great job of driving and kicking to Parker for a couple wide open threes which he knocked down. I think Parker or maybe even Cash did the same and got Sanders a great look. Our shooters are good enough that they will knock down a high percentage of threes when they get good looks. This offense is most effective when causing switches of bigs on our guards (or small guards on Rubles) and them taking the ball to the basket and making the right basketball play. Too many times, UC dribbles the ball until there is 5 seconds left and have to hoist a terrible shot. Yesterday, while not perfect, was much better offensively than we have seen it in a while and a lot of that can be directly related to easy buckets and wide open shots off turnovers and quick outlets.

I think the most important thing to happen yesterday was to see Jermaine Sanders have a good shooting game. I know Jeff has been high on Jermaine since the summer and while I like Jermaine and think he will be a good player for us, I was not quite as high on him (for this season). I think he is starting to turn the corner and become a threat shooting the ball on offense. He was not hesitant to take a shot yesterday and that is going to be important the rest of this season. If he can keep playing as he did yesterday, that will give Mick the ability to give SK and Parker a rest while still having a shooting threat on the floor.

You don't need a superstar to win. Look back to our Championship teams of '61-'62. Great cohesiveness, but w/o a star player. Some went to the NBA, but this was post Oscar years. It's important that each player understands his strengths and weaknesses and play to the strengths. That's why SK shoots 3's. He's confident AND has as quick a release (with accuracy) as anybody. He's not great at taking it to the rim, but when he does, notice that he always uses the backboard. Smart basketball. He's not a Top Ten highlights type player, but always seems to be positioned well for rebounds.Add to that he's a good defender - which everyone seems to ignore on this thread. Shaq may have a lot more stamina than we give him credit for, but we'll never know unless he gets in for more than 2 minutes. He can move and leap. I'd like to see him in with the bigs going for a rebound to see how he fares (not playing 5 or anything like that) - just pure leaping ability. Parker knows what he does best and does it - penetrate and either score or try to draw the foul. If Cheik can foul with ease, so can the opponents bigs if we take it to them more frequently. It's a shame our bigs have no floor moves. We would be so much more competitive (or should I say dominant?). But we don't, so we need to play to our strengths.

Who cares what he shot last year. We live in this year and this year he sucks. To think he is just going to start shooting 70% is ignorant. No one is arguing his effort and rebounding ability but when you can't finish around the rim and miss your ft's, sometimes he is a walking turnover.

You must be joking about finishing around the rim. Pound for pound...size for size he is the best on the team with the possible exception of SK.

We should always go for easier shots when we can of course. However, I am a big fan of shooting more threes at home than away because your % is slightly higher because your depth perception can be thrown off in away games when the stuff behind the rim in the background looks different.

Gameplan...free wheel it at home...get as close as possible to the rim on the road.

Free throw shooting puzzles me too. This is Parker's worst year from the line. His best was last season when he was just shy of 68%.

The Cats get shots at the basket, though they at times shoot too many 3's, problem is they don't finish. They miss way too many lay ups and short shots. Penetrating and making those shots forces the D to be honest, giving you better looks from 3.

I have seen Guyn attack offensively the last couple games. He has the potential to be a good penetrator and he has a floater that I saw for only the second or third time last night. Seems like the bulb is coming on for him.

Sanders played his best game imo. If he can be a consistent 5-6 ppg guy off the bench that'd be huge.

Sanders has great scoring potential, we must tap his abilities. Guyn is always great defensively, so any offense he can add would be great. I'm not a complete Guyn hater, but I'm not fully sold just yet. Sanders came in pretty highly-touted out of HS, so I like what he brings.

...
I don't think it's about looks.
During the end of the Pitt game, they passed inside, passed back out and shot wide open bricks. That was for at least 7 consecutive possessions. When you try something 7 times in a row, with 3-4 minutes left, it's just bad basketball.
If it's not there, it's not there. Accept it. Don't be like a retarded kid, trying to hammer a square peg into a star shaped hole. This isn't a good shooting team. They're off and on, when they're off they need to be able to go to the rim. No excuses for what happened against Pitt, you live by the 3, you die by the 3.

Yeah, UConn has looked good for awhile now. Can't wait to play them twice in 3 games. As long as they have boatwright and Napier they will win more than lose.

Something about the names Georgetown, UConn, and Louisville gets this team's attention. We've competed very well against these guys the last two years with less talented teams by comparison. I very much expect the same again this year. Also, don't sleep on the revenge factor at ND. It's very hard to beat a team twice unless you are substantially better. ND is not.

There are 6 games left...

2010-11 finished 5-1
2011-12 finished 5-1

Let's have some faith in these boys!

I'm actually with you on this. I think they will lose at either Louisville or ND and win the rest.
