I think someone mentioned Kyle's shot selection against UCLA and he did take a couple of long jumpers (good thing he was making shots). One in particular was later in the game he took one from about 2-3 feet inside the top of the arc when Cumberland was standing in the corner all alone for 3 with nobody within 15 feet of him. Kyle made it...but I was watching Cronin and I think he was coming out if he missed that shot...lol!

Kyle can make open shots...but he should have kicked that one to Cumberland. He has tunnel vision and has little ability to see the court when he gets the ball. All he sees is the rim. That is both good and bad I guess. It's good when he's on and bad when he's not. I like that he has the confidence and the ability to hit those shots but he has to stop hunting points and realize when there is a much better opportunity than the shot he is taking.

Can't complain too much after a good game from Kyle I guess. He's looked much better the last two games so I don't want to kill his confidence.

Ha I remember the year he was sitting out people were trying to say he was a good passer. Funny to think about now.

The thing about Kyle is that he is unstoppable down low with his patented flick hook shot. That's why Cronin gets a little upset when he takes long 2s. I read Cronins lips during timeout vs Mississippi State and he said they can't block or defend your shit inside so keep going with it. If he only take his inside shit, he will be shooting at an incredibly high percentage. Got to stay with your bread and butter. I understand they will try and force him off the block, but he basically unstoppable if he gathers himself and gets down low. Kinda like Williams shooting threes, eventually he will need to expand his game, but he is lethal when taking ball to basket. Stick to what your good at when your elite at it.

people here underestimate how good washington is as getting his shot, even in traffic. there are often complaints about his shot selection but his numbers speak for themselves.

2nd best eFG% and TS% on the team.

still weird to me the mind games mick has been playing with him.

there are no mind games. He takes bad shots at times. Think how good his numbers would look if he didn't Force up shots against three defenders. Oh and whatever Mick has said to him he has listened to. His last two games have been very good. Hope he continues on that path. He is a huge key for our season.

I dont think he is a bad passer. He is just not a willing passer.

I could use synergy to pull a multitude of smart Kyle to Gary Dump downs for an easy dunk. Including one he had against UCLA. At some points last year I loved our Big to big passing but then it went away. I don't think Kyle is Selfish, I just dont think he understands when he is in a bad spot sometimes.

I do know this though, if its one on one, I hands down want Kyle Washington shooting in the post over Gary Clark. Kyle is quicker to the basket and never gets blocked.

On a team full of players who only take good shots, Sometimes its good to have a guy like Kyle who forces the issue sometimes. Kyle is always aggressive offensively.

And honestly, I think the best thing that happened in the UCLA game was Brooks picking up 2 very quick fouls and forcing Kyle back into the game.

Have watched the replay and saw at least 3 times Clark was doubled and we missed wide open opportunities because we failed to pass the ball. It was there quite often Saturday.

Well Seth Davis completely butchered his scouting report on us...all these morons have to do is use google.

I sat next to Seth on a plane last time I went out to LA (day after the crosstown shootout) and asked him if he caught the game. He literally had no idea what I was talking about but had plenty to say about Calipari and their game against Harvard...

These guys don't watch enough basketball outside of blue bloods. They simply don't have enough information to be experts.

they are clearly mind games when there have been games where washington gets 13 minutes because he got benched over something silly.

and that happened the game before the xavier game and washington followed it up with his worst game of his career and then another bad game vs florida.

then he got right against mississippi state and carried it into ucla. he got sent to the bench over something silly vs ucla too but luckily for us brooks fouled the second he got into the game all game.

The thing with Washington is that he gets himself so amped up. That can be very good, but it can also be a detriment. It's so important for him to slow himself down and stay within the flow of the game. When he is under control, like the last 2 games, he is deadly from anywhere really. You know he puts in the work. The thing that I will reserve judgment on is whether there are "mind games" involved with him or not. Cronin sees him every day. He knows when Washington is in the state of mind to help us, and when he's going overboard and forcing shots, hunting a block, things like that. And Cronin has not lost Washington at all. Bc Washington is as resilient as they come. So he can be coached hard. Like any player, he'll go through ups and downs, but I don't have any concerns about how he's being handled. I think we are getting the best out of him, generally speaking. So I can't complain a whole lot about that.

its easy to say this after his best game of the season. but this board was firing a lot of hate his way before saturday, saying how terrible he was.

and maybe mind games isn't the right term but the 2 guys that get benched over any mistake (some that aren't even their own) are the same 2 guys that got taken out of the starting line up at various times this season. and both for players that are far worse players. so if that isn't mind games i dont know what it is, but its something.

You have to think about the other guys on the team though too. If you are Brooks and you supposedly gave Washington a run for his playing time over the summer and then watch him chuck up bad shot after bad shot, how much longer are you gonna keep wanting to play for UC. There needs to be some accountability. The reason Broome and Washington are on the tightest strings is that they have the best back ups behind them. If on any given night, Brooks/Jenifer can give us 80% of what we get from Broome/Washington, they deserve to play when those guys are screwing up. We aren't nearly as deep as we thought. There really is no substitute for Clark/Evans/Cumberland when they aren't playing well.

Washington and Cane are far superior players to Brooks and Jennifer and it isn't even close. I would take Scott going in for Clark over those two any day.

Anyone saying Brooks actually had a chance at starting over Washington is like when the Bengals reporters talk up a practice squad player.

we aren't in rec league basketball here. trying hard in the offseason doesn't mean you get to play minutes lol. it was obvious from the Red and Black scrimmage that brooks wasn't really improved much and is nowhere near the level of washington.

if we are going to talk about accountability, why are only those 2 held to this insane standard. shouldn't it be for everybody? when jenifer lets a guy shoot a 3 to start the game without even putting his hand up, then allows him to penetrate 3 straight possessions for great looks for the other team, shouldn't he be held accountable?

give me cumberlands back ups over washingtons back ups all day.
