its easy to say this after his best game of the season. but this board was firing a lot of hate his way before saturday, saying how terrible he was.

and maybe mind games isn't the right term but the 2 guys that get benched over any mistake (some that aren't even their own) are the same 2 guys that got taken out of the starting line up at various times this season. and both for players that are far worse players. so if that isn't mind games i dont know what it is, but its something.

This board can be very fickle about any player that has a couple of bad games in a row. It's BS. Especially players that have had 1.3 years of history or more. You are going to go through a couple of games when you aren't at you best. With Cane we don't have the amount of history that we would like but I think we see him progressing in the direction we all were hoping.

We go through games of saying Cumberland can't shoot, or Kyle is somewhat bad for the team because of this that or the other. We know 4 of the 5 starters are good because of what they did last year. A couple of bad games is not going to change their efficiency. We still need a little more data on Cane but I don't think most of us need much more to say that Cane is one of our 5 best players. And I don't think we need to dog other players like Jenifer to make the point.

You have to think about the other guys on the team though too. If you are Brooks and you supposedly gave Washington a run for his playing time over the summer and then watch him chuck up bad shot after bad shot, how much longer are you gonna keep wanting to play for UC. There needs to be some accountability. The reason Broome and Washington are on the tightest strings is that they have the best back ups behind them. If on any given night, Brooks/Jenifer can give us 80% of what we get from Broome/Washington, they deserve to play when those guys are screwing up. We aren't nearly as deep as we thought. There really is no substitute for Clark/Evans/Cumberland when they aren't playing well.

i don't think this is reasonable. I have watched Brooks play. He is not a difference maker right now. Kyle is. Kyle is the better player hands down even if he has some lapses on D. Brooks just had 4 fouls in the last game and he doesn't score...how is that better? Kyle is better right now in rebounds by a good margin and also fouls. There is no contest in points. There is no contest between Kyle and any other big not named Gary.

You can't argue (right now) that Kyle, Jacob, Gary, and Jarron aren't the best players at their position and it's becoming increasingly apparent that Cane is better than Justin and easily one of the best players out there on the floor.

After that you just have to figure out who is going to get the rest of the minutes. NO other player deserves the minutes these guys should get.

***I obviously agree Washington is better.***

Brooks dud score. And I know he had 4 fouls but I personally don't care about that. He's a backup true 5. That's his role. They had a 7 footer who is a go to player and Brooks played hard and was more physical than he's been for a lot of this year I thought. We have so many guys who can play the 5, Brooks fouling is of no concern this year. The only thing it will hurt is his individual production...but we can't have him playing like he wants to avoid fouls. He our rim protector when he's in. He did pretty well vs UCLA imo.

I think roles are pretty clear at this point.

You can't judge Brooks on his stat lines. True Centers always have a tougher time in the college game bc things are generally more congested. And with a game controlled by guards, he just won't get the touches.

Guys like Drummond and DeAndre Jordan didn't even put up good college numbers.

i judge brooks more by his weak upper body for his size and questionable hands. thats why he can't put it all together. he gets a shamefully high amount of balls taken away from him.

Yeah I'm excited to see him in 2 years. Hopefully he beefs up a little.

By scoring I mean other than easy layups. Kyle scores all over the court. Brooks is not a threat by any significant means on offense.

we aren't in rec league basketball here. trying hard in the offseason doesn't mean you get to play minutes lol. it was obvious from the Red and Black scrimmage that brooks wasn't really improved much and is nowhere near the level of washington.

if we are going to talk about accountability, why are only those 2 held to this insane standard. shouldn't it be for everybody? when jenifer lets a guy shoot a 3 to start the game without even putting his hand up, then allows him to penetrate 3 straight possessions for great looks for the other team, shouldn't he be held accountable?

give me cumberlands back ups over washingtons back ups all day.

I agree. These 2 are held to a different standard than anyone else on the team. And it’s clear as day. Just re-watch any of the games. Do you know that some of the best guards on some of the best teams in the country averaging more turnovers than our guards. The difference is they are allowed to play through their mistakes.

When Evans threw a bad pass and Broome got pulled for Jenifer, I'm sure it was bc Broome didn't go get the ball in the first place. That's one thing Jenifer has a good knack for. You can see the HS state champion PG and QB come out in Jenifer when he's handling the ball down the stretch. I feel safe vs any press when Jenifer has it.

***I feel safe with Broome too***

I just think he needs to get some more experience in that situation. He didn't exactly win a ton of games at SH.

.

he couldn't though. clark in-bounded it super quick off the made shot into the corner where evans was double teamed.

and we didn't even turn it over then! i felt like we did but then when i watched it again ucla just deflected it out of bounds.

no better time than with 6 minutes to go in a game with 99% win probability but the other team still has good players and its on the road?

i mean if its about improving.

i can't think of a better situation to be able to gain experience but still not be put at risk to lose the game.

If his job is to foul when Kyle is out then he is doing it. If he is supposed to be a good defender then he needs to do more than foul. Kyle blocks more shots

i thought he got a tough call when he did a pretty clean block. thats goes uncalled a lot.

It's a process! Brick by brick!
