Cronin's name is being mentioned. Probably just speculation. I (1) don't see UCLA having Cronin as a top choice, or (2) Mick ultimately leaving for it.

It seems Shaka Smart and Brad Stevens would both have to say No at a minimum. And I imagine there could be others after that. ESPN's list is:

Coaches Potentially on UCLA's list
• Brad Stevens, Butler
• Shaka Smart, VCU
• Rick Pitino, Louisville
• Billy Donovan, Florida
• Randy Bennett, Saint Mary's
• Lorenzo Romar, Washington
• Josh Pastner, Memphis
• Tad Boyle, Colorado
• Jay Wright, Villanova
• Mick Cronin, Cincinnati

I saw this last night and made reference to it in another post. I was being kind of tongue and cheek in bringing it up, I seriously doubt there is any interest from UCLA in Mick Cronin. I'd be a little more likely to believe that USC has some interest in him but like you said I don't think the interest on Mick's end would be high for either job. Mick doesn't seem like an LA kind of guy, I'd have to think it would be a bad move both for the schools and Mick if this were to materialize.

Keep your eye on Bruce Pearl, if Mick has a down year next year which seems likely considering what we're losing and trying to replace with freshman, I would hope there would be some interest on our end when his show cause expires. I'd give my left nut to have Bruce Pearl, he did for UT basketball what Brian Kelly did for UC football. After the move Whit made with Tommy T I believe anything is possible. Bruce's daughter is on the UC dance team and he's been at several UC games this season, it would be a big time statement move by Whit and I'd love to see him pull the trigger.

Pure speculation from the writer, which always happens. I doubt Mick would have much interest and there is no way UCLA is going to go in the direction of someone who is a defensive minded coach. I think they bring in someone who can bring some excitement to the games. Shaka Smart, if he is interested, would be the perfect hire.

Please tell me you are joking. There is NO WAY Mick Cronin will get fired even if he misses the NCAA Tourney next year (which he won't). And even then, there is less chance Bruce Pearl ends up here.

A guy can dream, right?

I don't see Mick's post-game press conferences in the wake of a loss going over real well in a large market city.

I don't want Mick to leave but for some reason I wouldn't be upset if he took a different job. I like him, but I don't think it would be devestating if he left.

I'm sorry, what? Your dream is for UC to miss the tournament next year so we can get Bruce Pearl? The guy that admittedly lied to the NCAA to cover up recruiting violations? He led Tennessee to 2 sweet 16s and 1 elite 8 and you're sold? That's not even mentioning he has a 3 year show-cause sanction on him right now meaning he can not recruit for a new school until it expires.

It's just hilarious/sad to think about the people that think UC can do so much better than Cronin. Maybe in the future, but not right now. If he is fired, who do we hire? Another up and coming mid-major coach and risk putting our program back another decade. And just so you know, if Mick Cronin didn't love UC so much, he would be GONE working for more money and being better appreciated at one of the many offers he has had in the past couple years.

This season was a massive disappointment and showed a lack of growth if not regression. But calling for his head after three straight tournament appearances and his most promising recruiting class coming in is absurd. 3 years from now if we are still barely sneaking in the tournament each year, then we can start that conversation. As for now, shut up and quit making our fan base sound stupid.

I hope he does leave and you follow him out the door. As for Bruce Pearl you're GD right I'd cut off my left nut to get him. The guy is a great coach and he got banned at UT because he lied about having some players over for a cookout. What he actually did would have cost him a slap on the wrist, the fact that he lied about it is what got him in trouble.

As to your last sentence let me point out a couple of things;
1.) lighten up a little bit, maybe get a sense of humor, take my post as it was meant with a grain of salt
2.) get over yourself

You're pretty generous Scheids. Three more years to produce? Kind of like someone driving down the road, and they're lost. They keep on going in the same direction. You ask them, "are you lost?". They reply, "I just want to make sure I'm lost." I'm not saying he needs replaced, but maybe a couple of remedial classes in what to teach your team. To be the best, you must continue your education.

Let me try again...Ok yes my post came across a bit harsh. My point was simply that many seem to think Mick would be easily replaced when in reality, we would probably have to take a chance on a young guy if we fired him. That's a risk I'm just not ready to take yet.

1) Point taken
2) I don't really get how I need to "get over myself" but ok.

It's pretty clear we're both on opposite ends of the spectrum in our viewpoints on Mick. I hope I'm wrong about everything bad I've ever said about the guy and he makes us a big time program. You made some valid points, my favorite thing about Mick is that he is a local guy and he does love UC. If Mick has success you'll never have to worry about him going anywhere. I love that about Mick.

As for who replaces him should he leave or get canned, I don't know but I'm sure Whit has a short list just like he did for Butch Jones.

I'm kind of kidding about Pearl but I'm also kind of not. His show cause expires next August, if Mick has another down season, which I believe he will, then I'd like to take a run at him. If Whit even had an outside shot at landing a coach like that I'd hope he at least makes the effort.

Why do we revisit this every single year? I honestly don't get it. The UC fans that think this job is a top 10 or even top 15 job are mistaken. Add in the fact that the Big East conference is gone and this job becomes what it always has been: above average. Mick loves Cincinnati and he continues to recruit well here. If Mick is such a bad coach, why does his name pop up at EVERY major job opening every single year? I hope Mick stays here for decades and if he does, I am confident that Final Fours will be in our future.

I know what you mean. It's hard to know how an administration is feeling about a coach, rather than what the fan base is feeling. I would think right now Whit is happy having Tommy T leading the football excitement and he is fine with Mick continuing his current success (despite the disappointment of this season). I would think Whit has all his focus on conference realignment and wants to portray our basketball and football programs as completely stable, even if they aren't.

And CaptDale, that 3 years wasn't a set time period. If serious regression continues next year, then it's time to take a look. Just not right now, as always, in my humble opinion.

I was ready for Cronin to leave the day he took off to Louisville and took 2 of our recruits with him. Some of us have long memories.

it has been before and can be again. the question is if we have the right person to make it that way again.

that question is still being answered.
