UConn

I thought they outplayed UConn by way more than a point. 2nd Half was really all Bearcats. It's a make or miss game and UConn stayed in the game with transition and hitting some really tough shots.

Our guys, I felt, executed offensively in the 2nd Half at a very high level. Dribble drives, working inside out, great diagonal passing and interior passing. For whatever reason, they couldn't finish the easy layups and dunks, and missed quite a few wide open looks from outside on good passing. 58 points with 12 assists could have easily been 70 points on 18 assists. Give some credit to UConn's interior D but I thought our guys executed very well.

Jacob is very good at the rim. Sometimes he's too content to settle for an 18 footer when an 8 footer has presented itself. Happened at least once tonight.

DeBerry is probably disappointed in himself tonight. Could have been a big night for him but he passed up on good looks with his man sealed and fumbled a pass on a very good dive to the rim. We will need him in the rematch.

Glad they made some plays down the stretch and gutted it out. How frustating it must have been to outplay a team by so much and struggle to finish down the stretch. They could've hung their heads and didn't. A big mental boost hopefully.

Get better Shaq. We need you for those faster paced games buddy!

The one thing that concerned me is that we started to shut things down with about 9 minutes left. Really went into tighten up mode. Little early for that at that point and our offense suffered. Played tough enough to gut out the win, but we gotta keep trying to score.

Good win last night no doubt, hopefully we'll be watching this team in March because of it. A loss would have really hurt our chances and March is always a lot more fun when the Cats are in the dance.

The problem with last night's game is that we did what we always do against tough competition. We went into our shell in crunch time and we were lucky to squeeze out a win. Playing the style of basketball we played in the final 8 minutes of the game last night got us a nice road win against UConn but it won't win in March. Been there, done that enough times to know it's not a recipe for sustained success.

I fear this team is still badly lacking any kind of true identity.

You're a shitty fan than.

Lol, get over yourself.

I've been saying on this board for 3 years that Shaq Thomas isn't a very good basketball player. I'm fine with him not playing for the remainder of the season because I think it gives Evans a chance to step up and I think there's a real good probability it makes us a better team.

Of course a part of me feels bad for the kid but I'm more concerned with us winning basketball games than the severity of Shaq's high ankle sprain. It's not like he suffered a life shattering injury last night so again, get over yourself.

I'm sure I speak for the board, you should just go away. You have zero creditability after your statement. Later troll

Agreed - I consider myself as big of a fan as possible for this team, and wish minutes were shuffled differently, etc. But never is it okay to be happy over any injury.

You've proven over the last 2 weeks you are not a fan.

I've received a couple of warnings now saying things I shouldn't on the above member. Easiest thing to do is just use to ignore feature.

Basically every game at UConn has played out the same way. The difference is this year UConn doesn't have a Napier, Boatright or Walker to hit that back breaking shot to push the lead to 5 or 6. Really cannot extrapolate the results of a UC-UConn game to the rest of the season. I thought we ran pretty good stuff and got the shots we wanted. Unfortunately there was a lot of questionable stuff going on at the rim both ways which hurt the scoring.

This was the kind of high 50s/low 60s game I can tolerate. We had guys making plays. The TO in the 1st half, missed open shots, and the little Gibbs spurt were the only things that even had UConn in the game.

Post play was weird last night. Overall I think we wound up with pretty strong numbers in the paint but it seemed like a lot of times we took a jumper when we could have dumped it down for a one-on-one post opportunity. There were also a few times where I felt like Gary had a man on his hip and could have spun to the rim but instead he dished it back out for a long jumper or 3 that we wound up missing.

Gary had a huge game and he's really looked great lately. He has plenty of room to grow still to become a dominant paint player but that's kind of exciting. Hopefully we can buck the trend and actually develop this kid into a stud. If he can develop a mean streak and a mentality like Hicks or Maxiell had the sky is the limit for this kid.

I felt like up until the 8 minute mark it was one of the better games Mick had coached from an offensive perspective this season and if the kids were hitting shots we'd have been up a comfortable amount.

THIS IS A REMINDER FOR EVERYONE. READ THE RULES AGAIN. IF YOU DON'T LIKE A POST YOU NEED TO USE THE REPORT FEATURE. IT'S THE ONLY SURE WAY TO HAVE A POST OR POSTER VOTED ON AND DEALT WITH BY MODS.

DO NOT MAKE DEMANDS ON WHAT TO DO WITH POSTS OR POSTERS PUBLICLY INSIDE OF THE THREADS...IT DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY AND WILL LIKELY END IN A WARNING FOR YOU.

Oh....and go Bearcats!!! Great win last night...we fought hard even though we weren't all that efficient. We played like men and didn't give up. The defense towards the end was awesome to watch!!

Is Clark the go-to-guy? I want the ball in his hands. Caupain got stripped again late and had a 3-11 FG 8 PTS 0 AST 4 TO game overall. Cronin's first choice was Caupain last night...will that change next time?

I was thinking the exact same thing. Hopefully that last strip sealed the deal on the ONLY play we have been calling to close games. I like Clark getting it because the D can collapse on him and he can still kick it out. Like when he kicked it to Troy for the 3 earlier in the game

I've said it all year.. Clark needs to be the focal point of the half court offense.

UC guards 4-18

UC gets 5 quick fouls on UConn then stops attacking and starts shooting 3's
Great win! Love to read the game threads about the ebb and flow of emotions afterwards. Different way to review the game afterwards. The only thing is there is no score on the bottom of the screen so we lose that perspective lol.

Have to agree with the point above. Why not attack and take advantage of the foul trouble. UCONN has to be less aggressive which leads to easier shots or we get to the foul line for easier opportunities and hopefully their better players in foul trouble. We have got to be a more cerebral team. Indiana used to turn a six point lead into what appears to be a 20 point lead by basically spreading the floor and taking advantage of foul trouble. Game after game year after year it was a huge benefit.

Yes WH! You nailed it. Let's go in a different direction. We've lost too many games with that stupid play that we run religiously at the end of both halves. We rarely score at the end of the 1st half, and I think Caupain is 0-fer this year at crunch time, and seems to get the ball crammed back in his face 90% of the time.

yeah that dude's comment is not good. we've given up one clean, open look - from the corner, and they clanked it. these last 4 were trash and had nothing to do with the defense.
They were deep shots. But even Mick said we didn't stay with them in transition. I think one of them started by a bad Troy 3 attempt . Not sure how the other one started . But I think they made five out of six in one stretch. The second half they kept them in very good check . First half They got ready in catch and shoot position, got confidence. We should not have let that happen. We have to stop acting like it was just the other team playing good. We should not allow it to happen.

Postgame, coach said they had tried Troy a few possessions earlier. That's the baseline play where the ball went out of bounds on the opposition. Coach said he wanted to try something different. So he is learning too. Troy would be ok also, but you can't do it every time. The defense is waiting for it. Also Troy needs to learn to stop at 7 feet. Don't go all the way into the trees where it can get blocked. Great win!

Really a team effort to be proud of. Lots of guys out there making plays. Even DeBerry's layup was huge. Johnson's kick to Evans, the steal and finish by Evans, Clark and Ellis protecting the rim, Caupain's block, timely shots by Cobb. Good stuff. We need balance like that.

I'm going to watch it again because I was sort of occupied during the game. However, if you told me Troy's stat line before the game started I would have chalked that one up for a loss.

So I agree with you on the full team effort! Lot's of guys made some plays
