johnson wanted it more

Wanted what more? Evans played 30 minutes and his defense (sorry, I don't get as caught up in deflections) was very good. He was tentative on offense but wasn't forcing anything and the way everyone else was going he got his teammates the ball. No stupid turnovers (unlike some other player). Impressive that they can play so well without needing Evans. It was obvious UConn was blanketing Evans and forcing the others to beat them, which they did.

Oh yeah. I mean UCONN would have been scary good this year if it weren't for the injuries. What'd they have, 3 top 150 ranked players go down. They still rule the recruiting roost in this conference.

I mean, that may be true, but I'm pretty sure they were fully healthy during their first game of the year, which was a home loss to Wagner (currently the 242nd best team in the country). Not completely fair to judge off one game, but I think they were a bit over-hyped coming into the year, even without injuries.

Alwayys gotta be somebody finding a reason why the cats are winning. How about we are just good. Who cares about uconn and their problems. Yeah uconn may have been better with those guys, but "scary good," give me a break.

It's irrelevant to debate but you're going to base your point off the first game of the season? Get out of here. At the end of the day, they bring in top recruits still and some of them got injuried this year. Next...

But you debate what could have been? At least he based it off something that actually happened... next....

With the exception of the 3 straight threes and FT's (I think) their defense was pretty good. They got lazy once the lead when to 20+ and they went to that soft matchup zone. Take away that big run and UConn scores in the 50's. Defense was pretty darn good most of the night.
The defense was terrible most of the night. Brimah got at least 4 alley oop dunks off guard penetration. They also missed a bunch of shots around the rim. Cats made 7 threes to start second half which got us clear of them but we did not guard most of the night. Cronin's point and I agreee with him is you have to bring the defense everynight because your not going knock down threes everynight. In March you better be guarding because you will not survive if you don't. His message was we have to guard for 40 minutes every game. I love his approach. They will need to play better defense the next two games or we may be in for trouble.

Deflections are a prime indicator of our performance. Coach mentions that stat every post game show. When we hit a certain amount it generally means we win. the guy making the line up puts a very big emphasis on deflections and he has his team undefeated in league play to this point. Where would we have been against Tulsa without Evans deflection and recovery which turned the game around for us. 18 deflections against UCONN was unacceptable. Evans clearly has played better then yesterday and will need him to going forward.

I feel like Mick is being harder on this team than he's been on others in the past. I think he knows this team has a chance to be special, so he's trying to stay that critical voice to keep these guys focused.

Really enjoying this team. They've shown a lot of resiliency. Top scorer doesn't score and we win going away.

If Mick can keep these guys attention, SMU is the only thing standing between us and a 2 seed.

Go Cats!

agreed! He is trying to keep them from being complacent. He wants them hungry. He knows every team in AAC is trying to make defeating them their trophy. Only team in the league ranked. He doesn't want them reading their press clippings telling them how good they are. He knows there is much work to be done to make this a special season.

Yeah mick is smart. He knows when to push buttons and when not to. We won by 14, game was more out of reach than that even. It's February, middle of conference play. Season is getting old, team's looking towards march. It's easy to take the win and move on and sometimes you have to. You can't be on 100 percent of the time. But everything mick said is absolutely correct. This team doesn't win a second round game playing like they did yesterday. Not effort wise. We all know our shooting comes and goes. And away from the shoe it mostly goes. So mick is right. He's choosing to be hard on the team. Keep them hungry, keep them fighting. Come tourney time, there are no off days and moving on. This team is good but they have to really bring it every night.

agreed ! the crowd wanted the walk ins in around the 5 min marker, happy Mick did not use them because there is a lot of basketball to be played in UCONN and it could of looked like we were rubbing this game in their face. Smart move by Mick.

Do you know if Huggs and Eric Martin did a video message like Nick's? I thought they were supposed to.
Man I loved Eric Martin. Chatting a lot with him at the final 4 year end of season banquet. What a nice guy enjoy talking to him so much cool dude
