or a team just gets really hot at the right time. Nova shot 36.2% from 3 as a team that year.

but in the tournament they were 56-112 50% exactly. and that includes a 4-18 game vs kansas.

I know they're not playing that well ATO, but I still believe we have guys that can light it up to. I really think our biggest problem has been being on for 40 minutes. IMO that's what needs to change the most, no more of these lulls where we let teams build a lead or negate ours.

I don't really mean not well, but not FF run and not as a team, but individually I think there are still a couple guys who can/will take it up a notch come tourney time. Mainly, Evans, Clark, and Cumberland.

What is the point here? Most years there's usually a few teams that make a deep run that haven't had much previous tourney success. Of course the bigger programs have more sustained success. Are we complaining about not being a bigger program?

What I don't want to see:

The same starting lineup. Then we win. Then we act like the Broome crowd was worried about nothing bc we got back on track.

I'm not using this comparison because they're both point guards. But in 1992 I was in college. AD Jackson was our returning point guard, Nick Van Exel was coming off the bench and killing it.

If memory serves, we were 18 and 0. Then we lost. That was Bob's chance. He respectfully took Jackson out, inserted Nick Van Exel. Final four here we come.

The Bengals thing is about the tone. Always getting people to believe it can be different this time...but ultimately getting too scared to really go for it. Then getting really defensive about it afterwards and coming up with stupid reasons why you had to do things the way you're comfortable doing them, even if year after year it results in going home early.

It's not too late for this team. I just want to be shown that we're willing to go down with a fight and change things up to try to spark us down the stretch. Just deciding to not a change a thing sends a terrifying message. I am legitimately scared. I am so scared that Cronin will get stubborn, dig in, and lose early with Broome or Washington riding the pine. I am so scared of that. So scared.

Man, I'm behind on the threads. But your tone sounds about as it was on Sunday. Not sure if people will be feeling better when I get to the thread I mean the part of the thread from today.

That lost hit us all hard.

I'm hoping but since it's wide open and anybody can lose in the first or second round, we play up a little bit and get at least to the second weekend. I can see two seeds and losing in the second round this year

I'm pretty down about the team. We have to beg and plead for the best players to be allowed to start and play. But no. Coach is set in his ways. The story has already been written unless we decide to change it up. But we won't.

Mick Cronin is the smartest man in the city and u can't question that. He sees them everyday in practice!!! Even though it is clear as day to every fan that Broome should get the Lion's share of minutes, u can't undermine coach! Just watch he will prove u all wrong in the tourney.

I was thinking about this same thing today.

I am not down on the team as much as I am about how coach is using them. I still think we have a very good squad with at least 5 very good offensive players and at least a couple excellent defensive guys. If we play the best players and play them the right way we are still a top 10 team. If not...we are a top 25 team.

We need to get back to taking advantage of how well rounded we are on offense. Enough with getting below average production from our wing turned PG. Let's get Cane in there and let all 5 of these guys go to work and share the ball. Let them play their positions.

That's about it. If we don't have any sets that are working then let Cane fly around a little bit and see if he can create some good movement. Get the bigs outside and let them shoot a little if they are getting doubled every time. They can make open shots. Who's gonna block Kyle's shot out there? Try something different if you don't like these ideas...just experiment a little over the next few games.

I’m concerned that Jacob Evans and Gary Clark are really struggling. Evans is 3-15 from 3 in his last 4 games. He has dropped under 40% on the year.

That’s a problem.

Then add that jarron Cumberland leads our team in 3 point attempts and yet Is shooting 33%. He needs to take more 2’s and less 3’s.

Evans is shooting 32% from 3 against tier A&B teams
Jarron is shooting 29% from 3 against a&b teams
Gary is shooting 46% from 2 against tier a&b teams

Cane is only guy performing well against tier a&b teams.

So while yes cane should start, it still might be in a losing effort because our offensive stars are mediocre and borderline poor against anyone with a pulse.

That’s a huge concern for the tourney which is full of tier A&B teams

Maybe let all the players play their positions? We have 2 PG's and we have been running Evans a lot there. Jenifer hid in the corner a lot against Houston. In what world is that a good thing? At that point you have to put Cane in.

I wanna see Cane the next few games. If he loses a game for us then at least we tried and we will know how to move forward in tourney. If we don't try...I think we all know approximately what is coming.

Also...maybe not force the action through Evans and Clark as much? It seems to be clearly affecting their efficiency. Jake is not a PG and Gary is getting doubled every time it seems. We have 5 capable offensive players (or more) to share the ball with. We can't pressure the D if we only feature a couple of them.

Cronin is doing his best to turn the Dynamic Duo into the Anemic Duo at no fault of theirs. I am joking a little here of course...it's not THAT bad...but their numbers are suffering.

They are already playing high minutes and they are our best defenders. Now we are going to force them to be involved in every offensive play? That seems tiring to me to make them work on both ends of the floor all the time. We have to give them some plays off on offense to rest. We have some other guys who are not too bad.

I am not entirely sure if we were running the stall against Houston because we wanted to slow the game down or get a few guys some rest so we could keep them on the floor.

We can't run the clock down to 10 every time and expect good results against a good D. We have to work the clock. If that means letting Gary and Jacob rest on a few plays and try to get something going with Kyle or Jarron or Cane...then let's do that.

I am the ultimate fair weather Bengals “fan” I gave up on the Lucy & Charlie Brown with the football act long ago. I am also worried that Cronin will revert back to the one thing he knows & give up on a dynamic offense because of mistakes made when play is fast - Mick, stop obsessing over process & focus on results!

Just a reminder:

Last time we were on a 2 game losing streak and it was crystal clear we needed Broome to play over Jenifer, Coach Cronin gave us all the finger and played Jenifer 17 our of 20 minutes in the 1st half vs Miss St. That's what we're likely dealing with here. He's that stubborn. And that's why I'll know the second Dan announces the starters on the pregame, whether our season is over or not.

So take out jakes last couple games, his percentage goes way up. Already stated he is in a little slump, this isn't indicative of the player he is. And dude, this freak out about us not actually even being good, you need to seriously put it to rest. It's a little much.

mick doesn't seem the type to want to admit he's made a mistake up to this point so i wouldn't expect anything to change.

a change would mean he's been wrong.

Man. Statements like this are why I can’t deal with fan Coaches.

If we aren’t getting Gary and Jacob enough touche, people complain. If our 2 best players get too many touches, people complain. If cane plays 6 minutes people complain, if cane plays 28 minutes and only 11 for Jenifer, and scores 18, people still complain. People complain that our players need to play 35+ min, then also complain that we are asking too much from our best players.

I will never understand this.

Players win games. Coach didn’t lose those games. Our players did. Our senior bigs got punked. Our star player turned it over too much. Our defense was poor on rotations.

At least you guys have some optimism left since you think our entire issue lies with our coach. I’m on the opposite end and think cosch K couldn’t get Garth Clark to be aggressive or couldn’t get Jacob Evans to start hitting 3’s. You guys seem to be down on this team bc of coach’s, I’m down because I don’t think we have a killer on this roster.

You can say all you want thst its cozvhes fault for recruiting these guys but everyone of them have been great players for our program, they just don’t have killer instincts.
