Mic is doing what he can but there is one concern that I haven’t seen come up.

I understand why Mic dos the slow the ball down run some shot clock (three man weave) basketball because he doesn’t have a lot of offensive fire power.

However this negates UC’s depth. Why have all of the bodies come in and out when everyone is already fairly fresh? (yes I know you take out an occasional player for a missed assignment).

Before the season started Mic kept saying his team would be in the best shape. That means nothing if the other team isn’t tired since you are playing slowdown basketball!!

Now I am not saying they should go 100% up and down run and gun but maybe a crazy full court press for a half?? Use the depth!

I'm not sure UC has the kind of depth you need.

And having a PG (and only 1) and him having bad wheels kinda put a damper on that. But I'm getting tired hearing about how they are going to play up and down and how they haven't had the personnel before but do now.

I don't believe they have the personnel now. Maybe next year, but lots of freshmen which can hurt trying to play pressure D.

If they don't have the personnel now they never will. Personally I think it's a bs excuse. Everyone keeps talking about how Mick recruits to his system, not necessarily stars, yet we keep hearing that the personnel isn't equipped to do what Mick wants. He has never had an uptempo offense since he has been here and he has had more than enough time to recruit players that fit what he wants to do....This team isn't exactly a skilled team. The only area where they tend to excel at is athleticism but they don't seem to want to take advantage of it.

Agreed LongHaul. I don't see why we only press when we need a spark. I say fullcourt press from tipoff; and not half ass, slow the ball down press. I want all out pressure. If we are 10 deep, then I see no reason we can't do this. Guyn can spell Cash so he doesn't get burnt out. One positive from Pitt was Guyn looked very solid. That was perhaps the first game where I've thought "yeah he could start next year". His defense has never been questioned, and Saturday he showed me his potential to drive and dish or take it strong to the basket if possible.

Agreed, agreed. That was suppose to be the game plan from day one and it stopped in December.

Wasn't there a big deal made about the new strength and conditioning program that would allow players to play this all out style? Maybe something is going on in practice that is making Mick uncomfortable about extending minutes for some of the guys. Mick said Gaines has earned his recent court time. Maybe he's wanting others to earn it too. I don't think he forgot how to coach or manage players. There must be some behind the scenes stuff we're not privy to.

I don't think it's a bs excuse I think the recruiting the last several years has been pretty poor.

But what you are telling me is that they are more equipped to play a half court offense than an uptempo offense. I don't buy that at all.

No, I'm saying they are not equipped for either. ;)

It can't hurt to give it a try, what they are doing now is clearly not working. I'm just concerned about how many TO we will have once we are having to rest Cash even more. But as I said, they are losing the way they are currently playing so what the heck.

Ha. I agree with you there.

I'm not worried about the TO's. They will happen but they turn the ball over in the half court sets as well. And their defense is good enough to withstand the turnovers but they need to create easy baskets. Mbodj and DNy can run the court pretty well for big men and we know they can't score in the half court offense.

That is what I am talking about. I would rather run a fast up tempo game for 40 min and take shots in transition than be a half court team. All year, when we have picked up the tempo and ran we have scored points. Time to switch sh!t up. If we play a half court offense against nova we will have a hard time getting 50 points again.

We are not a skilled enough team to be efficient in the half court offensive set. Being athletic, quick, and having depth was suppose to make up for that. I don't know what the coaches are/have been thinking the past month.

The one risk there is you have to be athletic and a smart basketball team. I believe we are athletic. As for the other, it we certainly arent 10 deep with smart bball players. But as I said, I'd welcome a change.

Mick has too much Huggins in him. He'll stick a backup in, they'll make a mistake, and out they come immediately.

You can't play scared.

It's Mick's fault they have no other options than S K and Cash. They've been given carte blanche to shoot whenever, and everyone else has been told to give it to those two.

It's Mick's fault. You want better offense. Develop better offensive players and stop holding them back.

I agree and was criticized in non-conf for saying the bench needed to play more. You have to ply guys for them to grow and you have to allow them to play thru mistakes.
