I get what you are saying but I disagree. Each member of the team has a job to do. The coaches job includes dealing with the refs and ensuring his team gets a fair shake. This will at times result in some confrontations. It’s not ok for players cause that is not their job.

Thank you. That was the dumbest point. The players are not supposed to talk/lobby the refs in college -- that's not their job. If a player got two techs and ejected cause he was arguing with a ref that is absolutely a headline. So the general point is dumb. This particular instance these refs were waaaaaaay too quick with the whistle.

Do you think acting the way he acted is going to get them a fair shake? Did it make the refs better?

Do you think Mick calling for them to be suspended, and for their pay to be taken away will make them more likely to be "fair" to us in the future?

There's fighting for your team and then there is doing what Mick did last night. Mick crossed the line.

Please. Mick didn't cross any imaginary line. The officiating in conference has been piss poor and the league office needed to be called out. It won't have any negative or positive effect down the stretch this conference season. Hopefully the AAC steps up next year.

he did post game and he'll get fined for it.

*whispers* they don't

honest question -- do you guys only watch Bearcat games? Other leagues have a LOT better officiating. The AAC is trotting out high school refs.

we can admit there is a difference in they suck (which they do) and they personally attack UC basketball (which is what mick is claiming)

Are you saying officials hold grudges and make calls accordingly? Then they should be fired.

I would say the best refs are hard to influence but the worst of them can be. That can be positive or negative influence. We hear about make up calls all the time during games. I imagine how a coach treats refs post game could have similar effects. A good ref will call the game as neutral as possible just like a good judge will hear a case. Biases can/will affect many/most of them to different degrees whether it's consciously done or not.

I think it would be a bit naive to think they can all be completely unbiased and 100% neutral.

I didn't hear Mick say that in his post-game. He said they weren't any good and in this scenario were acting like "tough guys." The Tulsa call was inexcusable.

In the course of a game you can absolutely work a crew in your favor. Mick might be the best in the league at it. Kevin Ollie was the worst I've ever seen at it. A bit subjective, sure. But this idea a crew is going to make a concerted effort to slight a team, player, coach over the course of a season is ridiculous. Cronin isn't suggesting that either. Cronin is simply saying they suck at their job and are not good enough for this level of basketball. I have to agree with him.

so saying if Cumberland was wearing a Duke jersey he'd get to the FT line more wasn't saying they don't call fouls cause he plays for cincinnati?

We can all agree many refs suck and we get some bad crews but that is not the point at all. I am also not saying Cronin was saying we will get biased calls in the future because of his post game comments. I am saying that it is my own opinion that certain refs can develop a bias (however slight) and once you have that you have a recipe for less favorable calls or more favorable calls. It doesn't even have to be a conscious bias to have affects.

No. That was a little tongue and cheek and does not translate to Mick thinks the AAC refs are conspiring against him. That was in reaction to a comment from a reporter about Jarron getting to the line so much. That was totally separate from his complaint about the officials.

pretty sure he did no such thing. he certainly didn't say that on the radio, and it looks like uc cut off his post-game comments before he talked about the refs. maybe one of the media outlets has the full presser.

no, that's not so much lamenting calls that only we don't get as it is noting that the blue bloods, with coaches like coach k, do get them. those leagues also don't have the dogshit officials we have, and that's part of it too.

cronin specifically made the coach k reference in talking about the double standard for why he was assessed the first t.

Ok, so your point is ref's can be unconsciously bias [against a team/coach/player] so calling them out is a dumb idea? That's a stretch. Plus even if I accept that to be true you can't know or predict if the bias would be favorable or unfavorable. Maybe calling them out will make them think twice about a quick technical for a coach or maybe a more explicit warning before the quick hook. Mick Cronin isn't going anywhere. Joe blow referee might not get a contract next season.

Hey...I'm not sure my opinion or yours is correct but I happen to still favor mine...LOL! Agree to disagree. I think it's one thing to be yelling at refs in game (which all coaches will do from time to time) and asserting they should be fired in post game (which most coaches will not do).

If you think that will be a net positive I don't think I can agree there

I think we can all agree the officiating in the AAC is horrible. I re-watched a taped of the game last night. They stunk. It's almost as if the game is too fast for them. The level of play in college basketball is higher than it's ever been. Every conference has athletes that could be considered elite. The officials simply haven't kept up. And the gap is widening. I understand missing a call here and there in game. But being consistently a step behind every game is inexcusable.

How about the Keith Williams 3 ball? He's really starting to shoot those with confidence. I was hoping he could be around 30% on the year to open up his overall game. He's at 34%. Even if that dips a bit I am very pleased with the progress there.

Since he is a confident player I won't be overly worried if he has to take a big shot in the last seconds of a game. If it falls great if not so be it. I would rather a confident player shoot than someone second guessing.

it's hard to believe that our coach gets hosed, our team gets screwed, and then the coach actually comes out in the post game and appropriately calls out the bs - and there are people who are complaining about that.

and there are people mad that he'd even get a technical in the first place (ignoring that it was bs).

good grief. go back to the land of make believe where there is no stress and no concept of competitive spirit.

I doubt calling them fake tough guys is going to warm them up to him or the team.

Mick said himself the refs are independent contractors, him complaining about them won't cost them their job.

He says he calls the league offices to complain but nobody will even take his calls. Maybe theres a reason they won't take his calls.

Here is the full presser.

7:20 is where mick starts talking about the ejection and the refs.

I didn't think he said anything crazy. He just wants some accountability with these refs and is frustrated that we don't have refs assigned to our league. We have contracted refs and I believe in the old big east, we had big east refs.

He will most likely get reprimanded and fined, and I think he is fine with that. He made it a point that he was going to address this situation.

There was no foul on brooks , the dude just fell on his own. Also, Jarron was grabbed, pulled and bumped all night long both on the ball and off the ball. He drew 14 fouls, but he probably was fouled close to 30.

i dont think a single person was mad about him getting a technical in the first place. you'll have to show me that.
