Welcome Mick back to the imaginary hot seat

Help Support BearcatTalk:

Mick talked all last year about how his team wasnt respected. They got their pre season top 25 and then this debacle. embarrassing.

One day Ralphy will run out of crap to say.

Bad game tonight. Joined the Mrs. and sat through it. Several things jumped out at me and I feel they are significant. First, the big men on this team lack strength and stamina on the court. Gates, while the biggest player on the court, was pushed around underneath and never was a rebounding influence and it progressively got worse as the game went on. I saw more effort out of Wright under the basket than I did the other. Whoever is responsible for strengthening should be looked at closely. Second, again, Cronin does not command respect on the bench. Yes, last year was a good season for the Cats, but that was despite Cronin's shortcomings. And finally, people get on the fans for not attending games. I am going to tell you all up front. Bearcat basketball, at this point, is boring to watch. Argue all you want, but that is a fact.

To add to your post a little.

UC strength coach is the man. Top notch imo. I dont think its a mater of physical strength, I think its completely effort related. The bearcats take after their best player, Yancy, hes always been laid back, soft, minimal effort yet talented. That sums up this team at this point.

I am not seeing the results from any of the so called big men that would show top notch conditioning and strength training.

It was a tough loss for sure, and i hope the team continues to learn from the experience...did i hear correctly that there has already been 41 upsets this season?...if true, that is unbelievable, but also great for the game...this team definitely is struggling closing out games...there were some positives that i drew from the game...Cash looked like a true point guard tonight...his defense and pressure was solid and his penetration was effective...Guyn, although playing limited minutes, provided a spark off the bench...i wish Jackson's passion and energy was contagious...Killa is a pure scorer, and his shot looked good tonight...i liked the idea of putting the ball in his hands in final seconds...the kid is going to be good...Gates, when he is given the ball, can take over the paint...he has such a beautiful touch 5-10 feet from the rim...free throws hurt tonight, just like previous years...i am getting a kick out of fans already questioning signing Mick to a new contract...five continuous years of progress...this team is very talented (thanks to the recruiting of Mick and his staff) and they will be successful this year...just need to work out some kinks...i am still excited about this team, and expect them to be a threat in the tournament...let's not overreact over this loss, just like UConn is not going to overreact to losing to UCF...

Go Bearcats!

I think I am the only guy on here who agrees with you. We are only 5 games and no one can argue with that.
Go Bearcats!

The ball merely bounced the wrong way a couple times. Mick is using the OOC as practice for the Big East.

"we talkin about practice man" Alan Iverson.

No offense.

No rebounding.

No effort.

No defense.

No coaching.

This team is not good, matter of fact this team is very bad.

I totally understand what you're saying, but I don't think it's as bad as you state. There are a couple players laying out there. Problem is the team as a whole isn't. In a team game if all parts don't function together there is a breakdown.

I think last night proved Micks point. This team isn't tough enough. To me it showed his assesment of this team, at this point is dead on.

LL you talk about offense, and I agree I'm not a fan of the offensive sets at times, but last night they missed so many point blank and open shots. They got looks. You can't argue that. The players didn't finish. Cash was 2-10. This again goes back to player execution and toughness or the lack thereof.

Why does everybody give the players a pass? Mick is ultimately responsible, but it is the players that are showing no heart and spotty effort. You can't coach heart and you can't coach effort. Once again UC gets a second half lead and the players start cruising as if the game was over and Marshall was going to lay down and quit. That is on the players.

I'd like to see Gaines play to provide attitude if nothing else. He will attack the glass and give everything he has. Cash plays too much in his own head. Let Guyn start and bring Cash off the bench so he can come in more relaxed. It will also pick up the intensity.

Something has to change. Maybe eventually the coach, but it's a long season and there is plenty of time to get better and learn from your mistakes. For now I think a player shake up is more than warranted. Heart can't be taught. Play those that want to play with it.

Because its on the coach as to who plays, no WAY half these starters arent benched. Coach recruits these players. I'm not saying Yancy was a bad get, but you could tell his attitude as a sophmore in high school.... just as an example.

I have said this for years, Mick needs to recruit a pure shooter. A PURE shooter, as in someone that you cannot leave. His refusal to do this makes zero sense.

Iverson was a gamer. He was awesome. In his qoute he was really talking about practice. Not games that hurt the chances of a UC tournament opportunity.

Losing these two games is pathetic and directly reflects the team and coaching staff.

People wonder why no one goes to these games? Who wants my season tickets? watching this crap is nearly as miserable as parking in clifton.

The losses mean nothing, UC gets in the NCAA Tourney based on what it does in the Big East.

Sounds like you have a vendetta as Cronin. Did he not say hi to you one time? You will do anything to blame him. Your saying he shouldn't have recruited Yancy and I am sure you weren't ecstatic when they signed him.

Read what I stated... Yancy was a must get. But you knew his attitude lonngg ago.

When Mick was first signed, I was excited. Thought he was a great recruiter. After watching him coach, I grew very cautious. I stated several times, Mick has to earn my support. Losing games we have no business losing isnt earning my respect.

All i have heard was look what Mick has had to build.. blah blah blah.. The entire time I have questioned his coaching ability, not the talent he had. But to be frank, he shoulda won when he had Yancy, Deonta and Lance. but didnt.

This was the year of no excuses, the year Mick had his team... well its turned out well hasnt it?

I hope Mick turns this around. UC cannot go through another coaching shift. But theres no looking around it at this point. He has to be on the hotseat.

hence the title of the thread.

Its amazing how some accept mediocrity from this program. And those who expect more get flamed. O well.

Theres a reason no fans show up. Period.

Cash Wright had a 2-10 shooting night, could be Cash is the reason no one shows up.
