I don't give a flying **** about being solid. I've seen solid for 8 straight years. This is the year we need to get a high seed and make a deep run. That's my expectation.

This is my thoughts. People always go on about making the tournament. I couldn’t care less about making the tournament if you get bounced in the first weekend every year. That’s not fun

I imagine Pittsburgh fans said stuff like this about Jamie Dixon.

Pittsburgh is now 230 on kenpom

Not that you don't have a point, but people never seem to consider there are 2 directions a program can go when a coach leaves.

Definetly possible. All comes down to what you want I guess. Right now we are a program, that maybe gets to a sweet 16 every 6-7 years. That’s what we are. We rarly have the talent to win in the tournament

I don't give flying **** about how anyone feels about our team. Facts are facts whether fans are over the moon or grabbing their pitchforks. We're all entitled to our opinions, but our resume could care less.

What the hell has AK done to warrant another high major job?

Nothing. I get as frustrated as anyone with our coach at times, but the idea that we would replace him or want him to leave is ridiculous to me. I want him to be here for as long as he ever coaches. I think that'd be the best thing for our program.

He needs to stop being Marvin Lewis though. The lack of adjustments and the banging his head against the wall and playing guys who just flat out aren't as good as others is incredibly annoying and it puts a ceiling on our success. We got a rude awakening this past week. Not using that to tweak the lineup to help us get to where we want to go is coaching malpractice. And coach stubbornness is a stupid reason to be a worse basketball team. We are in danger of blowing a 3 full game lead with 6 games to go. Doing nothing in reaction to that sends a horrible message as we hit the stretch run.

I really think mick could use a good X n O guy on the bench with him. A real offensive mind to support all his defensive knowledge. But even with that guy Mick has to be able to listen. He can be really frustrating, because some of it seems so simple, but he can be very stubborn. I do think he is evolving, albeit a little slow, but changing none the less. Just a little more push would probably do him some real good

I don’t want Andy Kennedy...although if we didn’t have a coach I’d consider him.

But you all are crazy if you don’t think he was a successful coach at Ole miss. Just nuts.

I don't know Jacob. I will want to see if he is willing to adjust his offensive philosophy first (at least for tourney). This program has too much history for me to stay behind a coach who has a ceiling that doesn't include an occasional Final 4. I want to go to a final 4 some day and root for my team. My expectations were set a long time ago whether they are too high or not.

Cronin is a very good coach and has put together some respectable achievements. I know if we got rid of Cronin things could get a lot worse but eventually I think we could make the right hire and maybe we will get into a power conference someday to be an attractive landing spot.

If he shows the ability to change right now and throw Kyle out there with Cane and let them play...at least I will know that there IS a situation in which he will try it. Let them play through a couple mistakes like he does with Jacob and Jarron. We need to stop putting our players in "timeouts" on the bench this late in the season. They know when they have f-d up...you don't need to humiliate them in the process.

He has said all along this year you have to score points in March. If he bails on that idea this year (with 5 high caliber players) after saying it fairly often...then it's just never going to happen. Next year he will be down to 3 offensive players who can score in the lineup (provided we don't lose anyone we are not expecting to) unless we run with 4 guards.

I will at least wait until the season is over to see how he approaches the tourney...but I would rather start seeing this change immediately so they have some time to get in a groove. If either Kyle or Cane rides pine for more than half the game (in games that are close)...I think I will have my answer.

I don't even think you need a guy like that on the bench necessarily.

Bill Belichick and Nick Saban straight up pay people to talk football with them and offer a different point of view. They aren't even technically on the coaching staff. But they'll bring guys in to think a different way and present every scenario so they can be prepared for anything. When Coach Cronin goes into his shell, he does the opposite of this. He doesn't want to hear any other opinions at all. He allows his stubbornness to hold him prisoner. I don't know if he has an issue with admitting when he's wrong, or when he needs help, or what. But these other guys, who are some of the most successful coaches in history, openly acknowledge that they need another set of eyes on things to keep them thinking. You must be adaptable. You must adjust. And the quicker you do it, the better off you are.

Serious question and not meant to be insulting in any way...but is LD just kind of a Yes Man? Do he and Cronin ever have it out when discussing strategy? Or does no one ever really challenge Cronin? I'd really like to know. Obviously Cronin has the final say, so that's why I'm asking. But it isn't very responsible of the coaching staff imo to just watch him go down this road again without some serious pushback.

its still pretty insane to me that a coaching change is even being discussed and again, If I'm Cronin, I hop on the first low level P5 job that offers me.

His legacy will be a lasting one:
  • Rejuvinated the program
  • Got us a new Arena and had to threaten leaving to make it happen
  • Had a winning record
  • Cleaned up the programs image

He will get to leave as 2 of his best Bearcats are leaving as well (Evans & Clark) and with a new transfer rule, it will allow guys he recruited to find new places and not be stuck in CIncinnati with out him.

He will have left UC in a better place than he found it and can walk away and watch it crumble, and maybe in 5 years, the AD will beg him to come back.

I mean, there are just 3 teams from non power leagues in the top 15 and UC is one of them and were talking about firing our coach after a 39 game win streak at home was broken and What could be back to back 30 win seasons.

There's a 0% chance he would get fired no matter what happens (on the court) this year, next year, probably the year after. No matter what. We could even have a losing record and I don't think it'd be justifiable to let him go.

I was just listening to a podcast last week and they were talking about whether Cronin would be a good fit at North Carolina and said he's pretty much the limit before you really get into blue blood coaches. And those aren't UC fans talking. I think people need to keep that kind of thing in mind. He 1000% would be coaching in a P5 league next year if he wasn't at UC. And he would win more than he lost, regardless of which program it was.

I've been pretty rattled the past few days and I'm trying to keep a balance between being critical bc I want what's best for the team, and veering into super hot take territory. I think talking about a new coach is a bridge too far.

I just wish this one year we could shake it up and go out with our 5 best players balling out and seeing how far we can get with it.

yea. I was pretty upset too. But like I mentioned before, I was less concerned it was coaching and more concerned its with talent. Our best players just perform really poorly against good teams and thats a huge concern for me.

I still believe in this team. I still believe in the coach and I still believe we can make a run. But i just no longer would put my money where my mouth is on the issue. They made me question how good they are and especially when I've spent the past few months defending them on the national stage in Reddit and other forums. I hate them being right about our team.

That said, the season isn't over and I still want to destroy UCONN tonight. But man, I used to lose sleep before every home game because I was so excited to watch them play, I've just been far less excited than I usually am.

He really does seem like he straight up side kick sometimes. And that's not anything negative about him

Obviously some of this has to be put on the players. Mistakes and turnovers or getting pushed around etc. But on offense...Gary is getting doubled everywhere, Cumberland has been roughly the same in big games and easy games, and Cronin has forced Evans to play out of position and take on the role of superhero. The one guy who seems to step his game up against big teams is Cane and he's not starting.

Meanwhile you sit Kyle on the bench and throw out Brooks or Nsoseme and Jenifer is no major threat. No defender will have to follow Brooks or Eliel like they do for Kyle who can pop a 3. Those other two can't even lure a defender out there...nor would they even try. Jenifer just doesn't pressure the defense enough NOR can he pick up the scoring for the other guys if they are getting all the attention. The defense can cheat a little on him as well. If Kyle and Cane aren't on the floor those other 3 are going to have a hard f-ing time.

That is not a talent issue. That is coaching and X's and O's. Let everyone play their position and pressure the D with your best players. Share the ball. Things will get better. We are going to get smoked in tourney if we run out there and play 3 on 5. While I can agree Evans and Cumberland aren't going to take over a game themselves with fancy moves and step backs...I would rather just let them play their positions at that point. How are you going to ISO a guy who isn't even all that good at it? You have 4 other serviceable options on the team. That was supposed to be our WHOLE f-ing advantage this year!! Kyle is getting less minutes this year than he did last year. Let your dynamic PG go to work so we can use all of our weapons. Let him get in the crease and get some dimes and score a few as well. Not every play...just when we start to struggle. You can still try Evans there every once in a while.

like i'll hear your arguments on Cane. And to Mick's credit, he played 28 minutes against WSU. I dunno what you would do except play him the entire game.

But I'm not hearing anything about Kyle getting more minutes in that WSU game. He was completely ineffective. And was bullied around. And he could barely even establish position because they rattled him so much.

We were getting punked on boards, he would be an idiot to leave Kyle in there to just get beasted on. Xavier and WSU are teams where Kyle is a minus guy. All our bigs sucked and Mick couldn't find an answer from anyone, not kyle, not Gary, Not Eliel, Not Nysier and Not Tre scott. They all sucked against strong powerful 4's and 5's.

We've played 11 tier A&B games this, thats a big enough sample size to show that our guys aren't as good as we thought. Mick Cronin is 5'7 and has never scored an NBA basket, to blame their hangs on him is ridiculous.

Our 3 best players are "bad" at their best attributes against great and good competition.
Gary is 49% from 2 in those games,
Jacob is 32% from 3 in those games,
Jarron is 29% from 3 in those games,

Thats our guys facing better teams and better defenses and then struggling because of it. Those not the kind of stats you want to see from your best players.

Jalen Brunson is shooting 41% from 3 against tier A&B teams
Trevon Blueitt is shooting 41% from 3 against tier A&B teams
Devonte Graham is shooting 41% from 3 against tier A&B teams
Carson Edwards is shooting 39% from 3 against tier A&B teams
Grayson Allen is shooting 38% from 3 against tier A&B teams
Mikal Bridges is shooting 41% from 3 against tier A&B teams
Kyle Guy is shooting 37% from 3 against tier A&B teams

Those are the better players from some of the top teams in the country and how they perform in Tier A&B games and most have played more than the 11 we have played. They have players who's best skills don't fade when they face better teams, our players all become very average and even below average when we play good teams.

I'm not saying this just to say it, i'm saying the proof is in the stats and they don't lie.

Would Jacob Evans be a 1st or 2nd team all conference player in the ACC, Big 12, Big East and even SEC??? I have no idea, but based on the facts in front of us, I'd say no, since they'd be playing more high level games and thus more opportunities to perform very poorly.
