Cronin said Clark played hurt. Ankle again I guess? Hurt it Monday, had an alternate gameplan if he sat out.

Man, these games take months off my life. :)

I've been saying for a while that this team is going to lose a game because of FT shooting. Just glad it wasn't this one.

The big guys deserve some credit for controlling the paint. X struggled on the interior and we dominated them on the glass. Washington had 4 blocks, partially making up for his scary free throw shooting.

Cumberland is a bad, bad man. He was like a senior out there - stepped up to the challenge, showed great toughness. According to my nephew, who was seated in the front row of the student section, after scoring a layup late Cumberland turned to Macura and told him, "You can't guard me!" Truth, baby. Truth.

Sure things weren't perfect, but in the Shootout crazy things happen. It is a "throw out the records" game. This team showed amazing toughness and resilience, and you know what? The offense is good. Legit good. This is the second time this year a team went nuts from deep, and we beat them anyway.

Anyone wants to spend the aftermath whining about this or that not being great, fine. Go ahead. I'm just going to enjoy this.

I can't wait to watch Jarron in future shootouts. He gets it already

wow what an epic game. our players wanted it so much more it was plan to see. Also anyone who cant see cronin is a great coach after tonight im honestly not sure what you're watching.

so happy for the seniors and guys like Clark and honestly even Cronin. Need to go back and rewatch was too nervous to enjoy it live hahaha

You know, obviously Cronin is not perfect. He is an OK but not great recruiter, and he certainly has sacrificed offensive efficiency at times in order to control tempo, which I have always felt was a false choice (just watch Michigan to see a team that plays slow tempo without sacrificing offensive efficiency).

But his teams are always prepared, they play hard, and are consistently solid defensively. He inherited a terrible, terrible mess - I think we sometimes forget how much lasting damage was done by that whole stupid situation. Getting bumped into a lesser conference just as he was getting the program back on its feet didn't help either.

This is his most talented team, and I really like the way they are purposeful on offense - even when they have had poor shooting games, there is obviously a plan out there. If they can maintain this sort of talent level, and be willing to sacrifice size for shooting on occasion (a bargain you have to make when you are recruiting on the 2nd tier), this team could be really fun to watch for the next several years.

And Brooks

I'm starting to warm to Brooks. He moves well, plays hard, and you can see how he could be an effective scorer. He needs to learn to keep his head up and be aware he has teammates on the floor after he catches the ball, but there is real talent there. He gets to spend another year coming off the bench, which should really prepare him well.

Waite, I am playing your video hahaha. Love it man.

Gotta say, most impressed with Cumberland and Brooks. The fact Cumberland remained aggressive and seem to relish in the moment is huge. Also, Brooks not letting Blueitt throw it down in the final seconds was huge. What a game

I loved brooks not letting him get that. Make a statement and he did it without being over the top

My takeaways:

Cumberland is a stud. Him and Evans will get us a lot of wins in the future

Evans settles for too many threes. He is obviously our best offensive player to me, but needs to get to the rim more for us to make a run

Caupain was a senior leader tonight. He looked like a captain and was huge down the stretch

This team is really, really good.

Let's keep it up!

Hard to believe we won with Quadri having an off night. It makes this win even more impressive.
Obviously just kidding.

and just ignore everything else? no thanks

And you know, for the record, this team shot over 70% from the line last year, and are around 67% since Cronin took over. Not good, but this year has been worse than normal, and certainly nothing like 61% all-time (their worst under Cronin was 63.8% in 2010)

Anybody see Cumberland jawing with Mack during the game?

I think that goes back to his recruitment. Loved it.

He could learn a thing or two from Cumberland. Honestly. How great was it to see Cumberland get to the rim? He had 8 FTA. Granted, Macura was guarding him and he's a terrible defender, but whenenver Cumberland got the ball on an outlet pass from a rebound, he was running. I loved it. Need more of that going forward and I fully expect his confidence to be sky high after tonight. Keep it up!
