I am confident we will win but am wondering how this works when they play 4 guards. Will Cumberland or Trey be playing a lot more than Kyle?

How am I supposed to just sit at work these next 4 days. I'm getting way too pumped for this game.

Don't think it matters because I think Clark will guard Bluiett anyway. They only have 1 post player, but we really only have 1 guy that needs to guard the post.

So I just went back and watched the disaster of a game last years shootout was.

We had ZERO ball movement. Like we pounded at the top of the key, Cobb on one wing, Shaq on the other and we got nothing going.

43 of Xavier's total points against us were scored by guys no longer on the team. Xavier's returning players had just 22 against us.

DEAR GOD. I just threw up in my mouth at the simple mention of Shaq Thomas. We had nothing going on the last 4 years because he was on the team!

2 things about the Shootout: If we stay out of foul trouble AND if Quadri Moore doesnt see the floor, we win.

Undoubtedly, someone on X will get HOT from 3pt range when we sit back in a zone. Id like to see some different defenses to take them out of rhythm.

Oh yea, and SCORE ALOT OF POINTS IN THE PAINT!

UC 69
XU 63

The way the game is officiated is what concerns me the most. After watching the horrific officiating at Tulane and seeing that X shot 49 free throws against Georgetown; I'm nervous that we could get hosed by the referees in this game.

I mean, X made 25 more free throws than Georgetown yesterday - in a game they won by 7 points! I didn't see the game, but really! 49-14 free throw differential! That's insane!

I think we're the better and deeper team this year and I believe we will win. However, I'm currently feeling nervous about how we could be taken out of our game by the men in stripes.

Go Cats!

Who does everyone think Troy, Kevin and Jacob will be guarding?

I though for sure that UC would have the size advantage but when I checked Xavier's roster on ESPN they have Bluiett listed at 6'6, Sumner at 6'6 and the guy who enjoys showing the public his genitals at 6'5

Granted I haven't watched eggzavier in person but in no way does Bluiett and Sumner look 6'6 to me but I could be wrong.

Troy-Macura
KJ-Sumner
Jacob-Bluiett

I'd Rather go:

Evans-Sumner: Matches his length
KJ-Macura: Matches his intensity
Gary-Blueitt: Held him to 5 total points in 2 games, why change it
Troy-Bernard: Both not all that quick
Kyle-Gaston: This is a matchup I'm concerned with because Gaston can bait Kyle into cheap fouls. He is a physical dude

Let's hope the gameplan is one that invites a little quicker pace and some scoring. If we can get to 70 against Xavier's soft defense I'm not sure how we lose this one.

Eggs 1-3-1 does scare me a little bit, I'm guessing we'll be launching a lot of corner 3's, let's hope they're going down.

X's 1-3-1 has been a non factor this year though.

Last year it worked perfect with their personnel, now its getting beaten by most teams.

They have used the zone very very little this year. And mostly just to protect guys in foul trouble.

I still hope UC has some plays for it in practice. They need to go watch Villanova and how perfectly they executed against the Zone. It was a thing of Beauty

Did you watch the game though? GTown was extremely bad at not fouling. They don't play defense with their feet, they played with their hands.

I Just hope the refs don't work against us like they did against Butler last year or Tulane last game.

That KJ Charge called being over turned by the ref 30 feet away drove me nuts.

I want Johnson pestering the sh*t out of Sumner. That could really mess with their rhythm.

No way we don't at least see it for a little bit.

I didn't watch it; the numbers just jumped out at me from the box score. Maybe it was legit, but 49 free throws is crazy.

I think KJ on Sumner is probably best. The trick is to keep him from penetrating. He's not a great shooter. Once he gets by someone we will need some help from the bigs anyway so I don't think Evans length will be that crucial. I don't want him getting to the hole...I'm okay with him shooting pull up J's...less chance of foul trouble that way. If we can keep Sumners penetration in check (limiting foul trouble)...I think we win. We have the defenders to keep the other two in check.

I agree wholeheartedly, but since Sumner is likely going to play 35+ minutes, more than one guy will guard him. KJ should be the primary, but when he is not in the game I would prefer Evans over Cumberland or Caupain. Not sure what they do with Jenifer, aside from limit his minutes and try to match him up with the weakest perimeter scorer on the floor.

We will see it. But not for long stretches unless its affective.

Normally Mack will bust it out if they are in foul trouble or the man to man is failing, but once you beat it once, he then backs away from it.

Obviously it all depends on how effective it is but its not the D it was last year

FYI.

Sumner has a Shoulder injury. More than likely a torn Labrum. Team has decided to carry on with the injury.

My opinion: We set hard screens on him and like I said earlier, foul him hard at the basket if we get beat. Use his injury against him

Sounds like we need to force him to drive in the direction of his injury so he has to try to finish on that side and we can make sure to foul him hard if it looks like he's gonna score.

Also we need to give him space around the 3 point line. Hes going to try and drive, so give him a little space and dont allow him in the lane. He isnt a great shooter, so let him shoot the 3. Especially with the shoulder injury

Agreed. Start the game that way if or until he makes a couple. Play the rest of them straight up...sag on Sumner a bit.

In theory I love this plan. But I get bad memories of doing the sane thing to Dee Davis who also shot terrible coming into the game. He lit us up
